I plan to transition to D5 Render soon. Lumion doesn't quite strike the right balance between quality and price. D5 offers a wider range of superior options at a very reasonable price for the Pro version.

The subscription for Lumion 2024 PRO now in the US $125/month while D5 PRO is only 38 bucks a month and only 30 bucks a month if you pay for the whole year. Lumion doesn't even give us the option of paying by the month either...just 1 lump sum. Many of the features in D5 seem so far ahead of Lumion as far as I can tell initially. I see features in D5 that I can't believe Lumion does not have considering they have been around 10 or 11 more years than D5. It's making me want to learn D5 more now so I can switch and not renew my Lumion subscription. 2024 is a great improvement from 2012 but still not on par with what D5 has. It is a shame because Lumion is so intuitive and easy to use, but until they start really bumping up their features, it's hard to justify spending that money when D5 can do much of the same.
Hi Patrick! Thank you for watching the video. I already answered on your previous comment on another video as well. Lumion 2023 had many issues that were fixed in the new version 2024. Have you tried it already?
Also final outcome in lumion is often much different than workspace and preview which makes the workflow more time consuming, in d5, enscape and twinmotion which are all great, it's not.
@@bruhtwinky5191 My Eyes on TwinMotion also, when their asset library become better i might consider switching if D5 start to lack, but i have high expectation on twinmotion, i used twinmotion before Lumion it was really bad, but after UE acquired twinmotion it started to become very strong. beside D5 and Twinmotion are both using the same Rendering engine, so it will all going to fall on the developers and how fast they going to adapt new technology and solutions for the program + the assets library .... Verdict: D5 is superior right now more than Twinmotion and lumion now. Lumion come second in line. twinmotion come 3rd.
I switched to D5 two years ago and i never looked back, lumion did improve a bit and i still find it attractive but i expected more from it. and also the price for my country is 12 times the average salary for regular people and 6 times for architects
This month i'm About to renew my Annual Pro License with D5, i invested $5000 on a 4090 Asus Laptop with 64GB RAM and 4TB SSD and $360 on D5 Render, i made my money back in 3 months, D5 Pays for itself because of the quick output and Livesync with 3dsmax, the quality is so good i can confidently offer interior animations that get render times that i used to get back with VRAY and 3dsmax at medium settings. Lumion can't catch up fast enough, D5 2.8 proved that already
Great video, I've been working since Lumion 7 pro, and this is something that kept me on Lumion. Anyone with a rtx 4090 will understand what can be done with raytracing.
Hi Nuno, what is for you the best currently in terms of photorealism in final result without post-production in 3rd party apps, D5 or Lumion (both in their latest version)? Not talking about other features or ease of use. So I mean purely the realism. Curious for your opinion. thx! :-)
like always, Amazing Video Mr Silva! A quick question though, almost all of those are features added on lumion 2023. What are the enhancements between lumion 2023 and 2024 (other than the interface and new assets)?
Flawless and accessible software. Easy to use yet comprehensive. The only drawback is related to photo inserts. There are missing features that in Blender are called "shadow cacher" and in Vray "wrapper". That is, to build a model and project its shadows on the photo used as a background, making the Lumion environment invisible. Do you know if there are any updates on this?
No 360 render using ray tracing, in Lum2024, is a great bummer, and i am surprised about u not pointing it out. In today's world we r going ahead with VR and lumion has not support for it yet. I have slowly started shifting to UE5 and D5 and never looking back at lumion ever.
@@NunoSilva3d yes i did watch the whole video as i do for all your videos, and yeah the 360 point was absolutely the last sentence which i missed out due the distractions around me....sorry for the confusion...😊
Unreal Engine, D5 Render, Vantage all have killed Lumion in my opinion. I've used Lumion for years and made the switch I suggest everyone else do the same.
@@NunoSilva3d I keep seeing these guys talk about D5 and looked it up and saw that its mostly a rendering app for pre made assets. Is Lumion the same thing?
@@AndyHTu yes, both software are for real-time rendering. They both use the GPU for rendering, but D5 Render works only with graphics cards with RTX capabilities, as for Lumion it works with older graphic cards as well.
@@NunoSilva3d Thanks for the answer Nuno. Followed so I hope to learn more about this app so I can use it for real estate compositing. I like the animation ppl have been doing to see buildings getting build over land. Would be cool to see how you pull this off if its within your wheel house. :)
which software do you use to design your homes before importing to lumion for rendering and also the non-lumion furniture and equipment. Plzz answer 👤👤
Plzz Answer me silva. before you import your project to lumion for rendering where do you design them, which software do you use and also for the furniture and equipment, where can I get them to improve my rendering skills
Nope I am not ready for the price per year it is much too much for me instead I learnt Unreal engine 5 and for quick and easy work D5 render. I would have been happy to pay for an update but between 350 per year with D5 and more than a 1000 my choice is easy. It's too bad because I really enjoyed working with Lumion but as long as they don't lower the abo price I am not doing it...
@@NunoSilva3d well concerning unreal engine there is a lot to learn at first but the possiblities are gigantic but I would not use it now for a project that requires crowd animation ( still don't know how to work with it correctly ) I would use D5 or my Lumion 12.5 Unreal is still a bit experimental for me now. still you can check my work here: centro de innovacion 3dfine or rosa muerte 3dfine. Thanks for asking 3dfine
@@NunoSilva3d you had the all library also in Lumion 12 but the installing space is "only" 35 gigabytes, much better! I know that lumion 2024 has a better library better material etc...but not 3 times bigger!! I don't get the 3 times space needed! I prefer staying with Lumion 12
The only reasons I would consider using Lumion now, is just for Photomatching, and google maps height maps. In every other aspect D5 and Twinmotion destroy it.
Love it, but twinmotion is our go to render engine for archvis, while lumion was fixing ray tracing we already learned UE and added it on our pipeline so.... 😅 It's just sad to see what was the peak render engine for archvis fall from grace...
Hi Nuno, great video again. I have a question that I haven't found a real answer to anywhere else, so wanna ask you as well (I guess RU-vidrs don't wanna give a direct or clear answer to this question). So here is my question: Regarding photorealism, is Lumion 2024 Raytracing better than D5? or vice versa? I really wish someone could answer this question without saying `Well, both have their own advantages` and bla bla bla...
@@NunoSilva3d Huh? Didn't you just say Lumion 2024 has Raytracing in this latest video ? And what is pathtracing anyways, never heard it... Plus, doesn't D5 use raytracing as well?
The video sounds like you are a lumion salesman :-) Of course it's a nice program, but very expensive, and offers as much as other cheaper options like D5 render, like unreal engine. I forgot to add that when Lumion was pouncing on customers and releasing similar versions over and over again, I learned the Unreal engine and I'm unlikely to use Lumion again unless they come down in price but knowing them I doubt it
Hehe sorry about that, I just wanted to show how Lumion 2024 improved over the older versions. Of course it has still many things to improve, but I think it's on the right track.
@@NunoSilva3d I was joking a little :-) because lumion is a nice program, I used and paid for many years myself, but then it had no competition. That's why I paid because I understood that I was paying for the best software on the market. Anyway, I bought your course and it helped me a lot. however, competition started to appear and the price of Lumion still remained the same. Today I laughed because even though it is comparable to d5 render the price is not comparable at all. I especially see it in your comments where people ask about the comparison and which one is better. But the price divides a big gap. I would love to work in the new Lumion, but at the price of the d5 render. In addition, for me the fastest option at the moment is Chaos Vantage especially since it already has the option to export from corona render. The best quality and capabilities is Unreal Engine. regards Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
I used Lumion a lot before but its system requirements got too demanding not to mention the license pricing. On my end, it frequently freezes and crashes. It used to be my go to but I jumped to D5 because of the ease of use. And, I rarely encounter the issues I mentioned even on high detail or large scale projects. Lumion 2024's output quality is great but so is D5's. In the end, I guess it's just a matter of preference.
@@NunoSilva3d Ryzen 7, 32gb ram, 3060ti (a little more than the "recommended" benchmark). It can do the work but it seems to me that the more the project file gets larger, the more Lumion slows down even when you turn off asset layers. It requires a lot to run smooth so I made the switch.
Not to disappoint you but the new live denoise eats more ram then ever before and 6 gigs of gddr6 vram isn’t even close to enough to render any size of pictures let alone videos! 😭😭😭😭
Lumion you will have to offer more than that, i used to be Lumion Pro user, i would consider my self as master in lumion, but unfortunately, Your price is outrages and your assets library is lacking a high quality assets, but the big down side for me is you were so behind when it come to update your engine to the latest rendering technology, that mean you will always going to be behind you will never going to catch up to D5 and now TwinMotion after it has been acquired by UE it will become way better than it was.
Lumion is out. Too slow to update, too expensive to keep up. Its like autodesk, flying on the market share they built in the past with out real value to it. But unlike other disciplines the archviz community is much faster to adopt new software. Unless they slash prices they will not survive the next 2-3 years..
I understand your points, but L24 is much better than before, seriously. L23 had too many issues and it was clear it wasn't a finished product yet (for example, the raytracing saying v0.9) but now I'm really enjoying the software and the lighting is really good.
Lumion 2023 and 2024 are disasters. The intrinsic quality of the RT renderer is very good, but it's far from good enough. Too many bugs Too expensive Too slow Hundreds of aging assets An outdated UX/UI that can't be modernized. Outdated functionalities that are never updated Development has drastically slowed down - nothing happens except the annual update. They never listen to their community They offer no videos/tutorials/resources for their users. etc... I could go on and on....after 8 years with lumion I know this software inside out. In short, it's the perfect example of the former No. 1, which dominated the market but has now been overtaken by the younger generation, more reactive, more innovative, more in tune with the times. D5 is now superior to Lumion in almost every respect, and is developing at such a fast pace that Lumion will never be able to catch up. IA and Patchtracing will be the final nail in the coffin.
