We've covered our 2015 Cougar travel trailer every winter season, and the rig still looks like new. No fading or cracking of decals, and the roof is in terrific shape. We got nine winters out of our ADCO cover. We also use an ADCO roof cover during the summer when the rig is parked in our driveway..... unfortunately ADCO doesn't make these RV roof covers anymore. After nine seasons we'll be order a new ADCO cover this summer. We current have about 65K miles on this trailer (Annual trips from upstate NY to Wyoming/Idaho/Colorado/Montana and many annual instate trips to the Adirondack and the St. Lawrence River)

Nice job on review ! One more point to mention ...the roof material protection. Many of the roofs on travel trailers do not hold up well ??? So again the cover keeps the elements away. You do have to check for Abraision wear on some at top edges...we had to glue metal strips on one of our trailers to protect that area. Also not good on Airstreams...they have a clear coat that will wear through. Great job, Don

I got mine on eBay for my JAYCO 22 J Another good tip , protect your roof and apply a elomastic coating after cleaning it ( 3 coats) every year or two. Wanna protect your roof one and done ? Spend some money and use the Gayco roof coating ( 50 yr. Warranty) do your research !

Love it! I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel I had built for me at the factory. I have kept it garaged or covered the entirety of its life and kept it waxed. It still has that glassy look from the gel coat! Here in Montana fir my $60k travel trailer, I just bought a cover as the snow, ice and summer uv rays are no joke! But yeah, if you can’t check on it almost daily, I’d be really reluctant to do so knowing they can also cause damage! Great vid 😁👍🏻

I agree to cover. We were boaters for 30 years before Rving and still do with the Rv. Reasons are weather damaged to water getting into normal areas freeze opening up cracks for water intrusion. If you have decals will help fading and cracking. Also just like Izzy says all the droppings from trees and birds. It does help if your rig is at your home so you can keep and eye on the straps by keeping them tight.

Everyone knows covering is better. They say it's not because they're lazy, lol. I've gotten pretty good at covering my 39ft Class A DP by myself. Here in southern CA the sun just destroys things! It pains me to see all the Tiffins and Newmars in the outdoor storage just getting wrecked by the sun!

I agree that a cover is a wise way to protect your ... (I wanted to say investment, but a camper is hardly that, lol) ... equipment. I keep mine covered all the time that I am not using it, in a completely enclosed carport with a tarp entrance. (You can see it in an early video on my rig.) The sun will age it tremendously. If I did not have the metal shed, I would buy a cover like you described. Another big thing that I have learned, is to keep it away from the ocean. The salt air and sand are murder on the finish. I would never buy a used rig that has stayed at the beach. Good video you two!

I keep our travel trailer toy hauler in a storage space in Sussex NJ and yes it is very true. Keeping your RV out of the elements does help make the life of your RV home longer. Some people think its a waste of time and money because from their experience covers rip off and do more damage then protect. We take our time to cover and also use something you didn't mention or maybe don't use but gutter balls help protect our cover from rips. The first place they rip usually is at the gutters from the wind. Thank you for sharing hope to see you one day camping.

Great walk thru guys. Makes perfect sense to me, especially in your climate. You truly have 4 seasons. We have 4 seasons down here too it's just that a couple of them only last a few days! That cover has to save your coach though. It actually looks like one of my t-shirts you got outta my closet. YES! Cover your investment. We have a Leisure Travel Van Unity. Our stock cover is made by California Car Cover Co. --- price $399.99. We wash the RV, winterize it and put it to "sleep" covered. The cover stores in a nylon bag with handles. I am 5' 2" tall, 130 lbs. --- I can easily carry the cover in it's bag. We have 8 antique garaged cars ALL have their very own custom California Car Cover's.

I bought my class A from someone and the winter cover came with it. The cover was stuffed into a cargo hold and I had no idea how it even worked. I had a friend help me and first it was a chore just getting it onto the roof and then it took him a long time to undo it and figure out which end went where. Lots of mistakes were made in the process, as we learned. The cover was used and had a tear along one side, which I reinforced with duct tape. I was away all winter but my friend checked on the rig in January. I saw that the duct tape failed and the tear got bigger. Over the next two months the wind kept tearing it until it was almost along the length of the RV. However, overall it worked well. I bought some extra strong weatherproof Gorilla tape to repair the tear and I will use the cover next winter (taping the tear along the inside and outside of the cover). I will have it stored in a different location this winter with less exposure to the wind but more exposure to sap and needles. I think it is well worth covering because last winter had a lot of downed branches on peoples trailers, from a very heavy snow and ice storm. Oh, I didn't see any mold inside or outside of my RV once the cover came off.

I'll never use another cover. I purchased a $400+ vented quality cover for my brand new Voltage 5th wheel. Since it was stored at a facility more than 30 miles away, I couldn't check it daily and the high consistent Colorado winds caused serious paint damage to my RV over the Winter, wore the fabric on the awnings, and damaged one of the vents on the roof. No matter how well I strapped it down (including underneath the RV), it would eventually work loose. Agree with the benefits you cited but I would never use one again unless I could monitor it daily.

Wish we'd been able to do that. We bought a 5th wheel with cover. It was a premium steel cover but was going to cost us 4,000 to have it disassembled and delivered. Then it was going to cost us $2500 to have it assembled 😮😮. We are unable to do any of the work. Had to leave it behind because of the cost. So we ended up losing in the deal.😢

Good video...BUT: What a PITA. No way I'm going thru all of this. Not to mention DANGEROUS. Plus, even the expensive covers only last a year or two before they self-destruct. My plan: Inspect the roof a couple times per year and touch-up caulk to prevent any leaks. Wash roof 2-3x per year. Wax the sides once a year and use 303 on decals. That's it. It should be good for 10 years or more and then I'll sell or donate whatever remains of the rig. Best plan: find covered storage!

Living further north than you, (boston) I have always covered my vehicles, boats and certainly pools and I will certainly cover my new RV. One question,,,,since it is located within feet of your home and I know you have an RV electrical hook,,,when covered do you run anything inside the coach for the winter? E.g. dehumidifier, heat, small light etc. etc. or is it not worth the additional worry of having unattended electricity running within? Just wondering???

Fred Piccinni hi Fred thanks for watching the video and the comment. To answer your question, we do keep the rig plugged into 50 amp all the time. Only thing we keep inside is 3 bags of DampRid. One in bedroom, one in kitchen and one in bathroom. I do like the hanging ones as I can see when it is filled with liquid and change out although in the winter it’s so dry it’s not bad. We don’t run heat or any appliances. Rig is winterized using air to blow out lines and then I run RV antifreeze through all lines and traps. Hope that answered your question. Izzy

Hi! Great video on RV covers. 👍 I don’t know if you will get this or answer the question, but here goes: we live in Quebec, just bought a 31-footer with fiberglass top that we plan to cover when winter comes. Yet, we will be going going to Florida in early March. Our concern: with the cold weather, do we risk tearing up the cover when removing it from the RV or is it flexible enough? And considering the possibility of ice or snow, can this type of cover withstand a lengthy period without being properly folded? While we are away, it would be stored in a non-heated garage. Thx and many thx for your amazing videos! Daniel

Izzy: I liked your blog on whether to cover or not to cover? Which is why I watched your comment on the subject! It’s too bad you had to even comment on the hate that gets thrown around these days! Sorry you have to deal with it! My wife and I have a 36 ft coach, we had bought a cover for it and used it one season while it was stored in Phoenix Arizona, we live in Colorado which ,weather wise is completely opposite of Phoenix we are bringing it home this year because it’s getting to expensive to rent the space in storage! I am worried about the cold here in the winter for two reasons most of which you addressed in your blog . We have a residential refer in our coach , so we are worried about winterizing it with RV Anti- freeze? Because of the ice maker and water feature. The other was I’ve heard that pex lines with anti-freeze can freeze and break or crack flexible pex even though there filled with Anti-freeze? The other is cold air under the coach! There is a lot of talk about blocking the air movement under the coach by filling in the gaps from the coach body to the ground! Could I just leave the coach cover go to the ground? I’m also worried about varmints , field mice , ground squirrels, & tree rats. They got into my prized 2004 Chevy SS truck and ruined all the wiring! Have you got any insight? I appreciate the fact that you put yourself out there to help those that enjoy Motor coaching as you and your wife do! Thanks for the blog! 👍

Very good video, thank you. I am a newbie with the RV and live in the Northwest where we get snow and cold like you. My question is in areas on the roof like where the AC is there is like a bridge of material from my cover between different high points. This bridge of material is somewhat tight and I wonder if weight of the snow could cause a problem (a tear). Do you ever remove snow from the roof and if so how deep of snow would it take for you to make that effort? Or do you think the material should be able to hold that weight. It also causes low point puddles when it rains and likely to do so when snow melts up there.
@EndlessRVing
@EndlessRVing Год назад
AC units are not an issue. Just get the right size cover. The material is water proof so once the snow melts we let the water dry up and take the cover off

Each cover is sized according to your RV. Our 37 foot class A cover would not fit a 45 foot DP. We would need the appropriate size cover. Thanks for watching and the comment. Izzy

I had a 1962 black Corvette for years kept it in garage but dust was getting on it. It's fiberglass to but it had lacquer paint on it old school ten thousand dollar paint job. We bought one of these cloth type covers like you have here. I was undecided on whether it better in the elements or with the cover. After about a year an a half we decided to do away with cover an than just clean it once a month. We didn't drive it very much. But that cover will do damage so it has pros an cons. Just my story. I'm not agreeing or disagree just wanted to tell you it's not full prove.

Awesome videos. Merry Christmas 🎄. I have a question on my class A, the steps are not extending when I open the door. I had the steps replaced two years ago, and I had a new motor installed about 5 months ago. Do you have any ideas what may be causing the steps not to extended.? (it works for time to time, but I notice it’s getting worst) Thank you
@EndlessRVing
@EndlessRVing 4 года назад
Hmm? Are your door sensors making good contact? Is there anything binding on the steps? Is your motor bad again? It could be a number of different issues, that would take some trouble shooting. Give a call to the step manufacturer and they may be able to get you in the right direction. Izzy

Hi Izzy, Hope you are still answering old youtube queries. My husband and I bought a motorhome to get away from Canadian winters. Now we can't cross the boarder cuz of Covid. We have tween 4 and 5 ft of snow here each winter. What do you do with snow accumulation on the roof of the RV cover? Patricia
@EndlessRVing

Hey Patricia, it really stinks about the borders. All Izzy and I would suggest is simply sweeping the snow off (or have someone do it for you! lol) Hopefully things get better sooner than later. Stay safe! - MJ

I saw another YT channel where they put up a garage over their trailer. It's a metal framed garage with a covering over it, not a permanent garage. They had to keep the snow from accumulating on it but it held up and kept more of the wind and cold out and protected the trailer. I know you left your comment a couple of years ago so this may not help but maybe it will for someone else.

@@EndlessRVing OK, that makes sense. But you wouldn't run the A/C to put a load on the generator, correct? The A/C is covered and would need to breathe. I just bought a nice 2018 BayStar Sport 2903 and am learning a lot from your videos. Thanks for the great job you do. A couple more questions: 1) How often and for how long do you run the generator and how much load to you put on it? 2) How do you keep your batteries charged for 4+ months in storage? Could I keep it on shore power continuously? I just bought a $400+ cover and plan to do as you do on that matter. Keep up the great work! Stan
@EndlessRVing
@EndlessRVing 3 года назад
We run the generator 1once a month turn on the lights, tv, you can plug in ceramic heaters they have a nice draw. We let it run for 1 hour or so. We are plugged at home so not worried about discharge. If you are in storage I would remove the batteries as they will drain quickly.
