That's an absolutely amazing video. Packed full of information, no wandering off topic or being too complicated like other dermatologists, but punchy and straight to the point. Thank you so much.

I've recently started to using Azelaic acid and I absolutely love it! My pimples are gone and hyperpigmentation is slowly fading away. I'm using 10% version.

Hi Dr Lim! In your recent videos, the audio levels are too low, FYI. I can hardly hear you on a laptop or a phone anymore, unless volume is maxxed out. Pls inform your video editor, so they can adjust the file compression settings upon output. thanks!

Would this be good for aged spots on face and hands, if so, use only on these spots to fade, when, how often? What is the best Vit C for a 67 yr old female good skin good quality not expensive from say chemical warehouse or priceline? Do you use before moisturiser morning & night, THK YOU

There's definitely more effective things but they're on prescription/things you can't use all the time (like hydroquinone, John Plunkett's Fade Cream 2% at Chemist Warehouse. I use a prescription retinoid, tretinoin, it's about 70 bucks a tube though it lasts for many many months and I love it). Azelaic is harder to get in Australia now, I used to get it from The Ordinary or Paula's Choice but it's pharmacy medicine only so the most readily available OTC is Azclear by Ego. It's pretty cheap and at all Australian chemists. You can use it twice a day as long as you tolerate it. Before or after moisturiser. It depends on the vehicle of the product. I find Azclear better over the top of things 'cos it leaves a sort of barrier. Can be a bit drying but then I'm using acids, tretinoin, vit-c, 20% niacinamide etc. so I really push my skin. You could get lower concentrations but you'd have to order in from overseas. Vitamin C, well that's a whole rabbit hole there. I'm a Paula's Choice girl but that's expensive. Try "The Ordinary", it's really affordable, it's at Priceline, it's fragrance free too, most other things have fragrance here. They have a range of formulations at different strengths, vehicles and types (e.g. L-Ascorbic Acid, which can be more irritating and also more unstable but is also the most effective, or more stable derivatives). As you're in your wiser years you may benefit from mid-strength concentration and maybe an oil suspension you might find their 23% or 39% too drying if you're a dry skin person. "Dr Davin Lim Vitamin C" in the YT search bar. I know he has some videos on it and seen him recommend The Ordinary.

@taranullius9221 4 месяца назад
*30% not 39%. I find the 30% more tolerable 'cos it's in that silicone base, the 23% is grainy and stings a bit but again, I'm a heavy active user. There's as low as 8% (the 8% C and 2% Alpha Arbutin has been interesting me for my hands). The Ordinary is a cheap source of retinol for you there too at Priceline (with the added benefit of no fragrance). That will help your spots too and wrinkles.
@taranullius9221
@taranullius9221 4 месяца назад
I use The Ordinary 1% Retinol in Squalene on my arms and hands it's so cheap and I save my prescription retinoid for my face and chest (and left over goes on backs of hands) and my Paula's Choice 1% retinol for my neck (It's more cosmetically elegant but like, 7 times the price).

@drdavinlim Winter is coming in Victoria. Would you sometime tell us if you have an opinion on the use of infrared heaters at home? I wonder if there is enough research to guarantee the safety of long-term exposure to those infrared rays. Any concerns related to premature aging of the skin, cancer, or the like?

For some who experience stinging, one derm channel has suggested keeping the azelaic acid in the refrigerator and applying it cool to help mitigate some that.

Interesting. I can get a bit of a sting but I'm using 16% Azclear which is designed for acne so it's got a kick to it (but my active use is high-to-intense. That's on me). Another tip I'd say either start at a lower percentage like 10% (though you can't really in Australia you'd have to order from O/S now) or just titrate it = mix a bit in lower concentrations with mostly moisturiser and then level up slowly. I just put up with it honestly.

I think we get Finacea here but Azclear is much easier to get OTC and Finacea is still 15% anyway.

I have been using compound Azelaic acid with j Kojic acid and niacinamide. It made a huge difference in my melasma. For my extremely sensitive skin HQ was a complete disaster. After using it for, on &off for 18 months, it left my skin with permanent damage. It didn't work on my melasma but kept irritymt skin, my doctor told me to keep going. Big mistake. If your skin gets red with any skin care stop using it right away.

Non irritating?!? lol it BURNS. I use 15% and mix it with petroleum. I can’t really stand it in any other application.
@Sky10811

start slowly: twice per week, then increase 1 time per week. WITHOUT PETROLEUM because it seals and increases irritation cover with Bepanthol derma nutritive 400 ml instead
