The Green Mile movie reaction part 2 is here! And I honestly don't know why we waited so long to watch this film. This incredible movie staring Michael Clarke Duncan and Tom Hanks is such a heartfelt story. Directed by the incredibly talented Frank Darabont the shift in tones in this film are done so seamlessly it's truly difficult not to put this film into one of our favorites. This film is also based on a Stephen King novel under the same title. We absolutely love Stephen King and after our Shawshank Redemption reaction it was only right to move on to the next beloved movie adaptation. The ending of this film wrecked us! We weren't prepared for this.

"People who are in positions of control, do it because they want the control" The lady gets it. And this is why we live in a criminal world with a bunch of sociopaths and psychopaths ruling over us whether they pretend to be right wing or left wing. After all who else would seek power but someone who desires power over others? That was a wonderful empathetic reaction, I hope you both have wonderful lives.

A lot of people have guessed, and correctly as later Stephen King himself said, that the initials of John Coffey stand for Jesus Christ. Jesus was also crucified beside two criminals, one found Redemption the other didnt. The underlying symbolism is missed by many of the audience and even as a non believer, i find it extremely powerful.

Yeah! Definitely strong parallels. The symbolism, the writing, the score and the acting. This film is superb in so many aspects. But man, definitely one of those speechless by the end kind of film for us.

The St Christopher medal that Melinda gave to John is symbolic. St Christopher, whose original name is Reprobus, was a man of great size and strength who devoted himself to serve the strongest king in the Land. One way he helped was by helping travelers cross a dangerous river. One day a child asked to ride on Christopher's shoulders across the river, but the infant seemed to grow heavier and heavier with every step. When they arrived on the opposite shore, the child identified himself as Christ, telling Reprobus (St Christopher) that he had just carried the weight of the world. Saint Christopher became one of the most popular patron saints for travelers

@@OfficialMediaKnights I feel the SAME way that BEVERLY KITCHEN said to you above. I LOVED your reaction and that you weren't ashamed to show your emotions. I have seen it many times as well and I STILL cry EVERY TIME! Sometimes I think I must be sort of an empath....because I cry a lot and since I was a child, I was always able to "put myself in someone else's shoes" and know what they are feeling, Not to the extent that John Coffey could, like feeling Del's pain when he was being executed, but with tragedies which happen to other people, even people I don't know, that I see on the news, or read about, especially now. There are SO many awful things going on in our world today....the destruction in Ukraine and the suffering their people are going through, horrible weather and earthquakes destroying peoples homes and lives. ALL the mass shootings (and yet ANOTHER one just yesterday at a school killing 3 nine year olds, 2 teachers and a custodian), etc. I cry at all these things that I see happening, not to just people, but even to animals, so it is really hard on me sometimes. First time I saw the "GREEN MILE" and when John Coffey says before his execution how he is tired, and tired of all the ugliness people have to each other, STRUCK me and I could RELATE to how he felt, because it is how I FEEL much of the time, these days ( I just turned 76, so I have a lot of years to compare with. You were so right when you said Michael Clarke Duncan did such a fantastic job with his character. I can't imagine ANY OTHER ACTOR but him playing John Coffey. It was such a SHAME that he DID NOT get the OSCAR for his role that year at the ACADEMY AWARDS. Just so you know Michael Clark Duncan in reality is only one inch taller than "Brutal" (David Morse) who is 6' 4" tall, Mr. Duncan was 6'5" tall. They built a raised platform for him to walk on, so that he appeared so much taller than the other characters when near him. They also put a shorter bed in Coffey's cell to make Mr. Duncan look even larger than he was. I was devastated when he passed away in real life. He was an incredible actor, especially in this role. I also heard that in real life he was a very nice and sweet man. Such a shame RIP MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN.

@scover3

@@OfficialMediaKnights no he wasn't. I hate when people saying this. Back then Oscar was really challenging, nothing compared to nowadays when we have 1 maybe 2 really good films per year. It was competition between him, Michael Caine (The Cinder House Rules), Tom Cruise (Magnolia), Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense). All those actors are incredibly talented and films are remarkable. I know everyone have preferences and personally i would gave Oscar to Haley Osment. It’s Jan 6 right now and I’m not really sure I’m going to get through it. I love her so much. I kept thinking that I wished I had John Coffee here . My favorite part of this film, I think, is when John Coffee tells Boss Edgecomb that he’s doing a kindness. That he’s tired and “lonely as a sparrow in the rain”. I absolutely understand that feeling right now. (In the Novellas Mr. King said “Robin in the rain” but I think sparrow works better.). Anyway, sorry for going on so long but rewatching this wonderful movie with you wonderful people (even if a few months later) has helped. peace

My brother, who we sadly lost a year ago, bought the first part (2 dead girls) at a train station to pass the time on a long journey home. He passed it straight to me because he knew i am a big king fan. I read it, and it had me hooked, and i went right to the local book store and put in my order for the next chapter. The acting in this movie is truly phenomenal, as is the cinematography and storytelling. The first time i watched this movie, it was in my late teens. I empathized so much with John and the good guards that I felt stuck between pain and hollow for about a week. I'm not exagerating. I avoided watching this movie for YEARS, even while thinking it one of the best movies ever made under all aspects and kept recommending it to people. I never regretted watching it, but I was just so afraid of feeling that pain again. I'm glad I'm able to rewatch it now, many years later, through reactions. I cry every time, but I'm able to take the pain better because I'm able to fully understand the true nuances in Johns's point of view, about the suffering he must've felt while alive. Him dying was more of a gift, in a way, although it always hurts to see such a good person go.

For a little bit of backstory, in the novel, the crimes of the death row inmates were described: Arlen Bitterbuck killed a man in a fight, and a fifth prisoner not adapted into the film killed his father for his money, but because he was a wealthy white man he went free and avoided a punishment he deserved more than Arlen. Edward Delacroix raped a woman and accidentally killed her, and when he panicked and tried to burn the body, the flames reached a building. But if someone had been looking out for Del, he probably would've never gone down that path in the first place. He seemed to be mentally slow, which is already difficult for a person nowadays, let alone back in that era, but instead he was cast aside. This is what makes the elderly Paul's career change to a boys' correctional home even more impactful: to help kids who might otherwise go down a dark path.

I've watched a lot of movies and TV shows with evil monsters and evil people but none make me more angry than Percy Wetmore. I love this film, it never fails to make me cry. They couldn't turn the electricity off because at that point he'd already suffered some horrific electrical burns. It's best to carry on until he's dead. It was still far quicker than letting him die if they turned it off. He'd have suffered a slow and extremely painful death otherwise, not to mention the high risk of infection because of the burns.

This is one of a select few movies that ALWAYS make me cry. If I need a good cry I watch this movie or Pay It Forward (another phenomenal movie!!!) The line where he asks John what he is suppose to say to God is what always chokes me up too.

Thank you for your review of this movie. I really liked it. Glad your channel showed up in my suggestions-subscribed. Your comments were insightful and your emotional response touching and appropriate. Some of the best commentary I’ve seen. I watched this movie alone in 2000 on a library DVD and it shattered me. It left an indelible mark on my memory but it packed such a devastating emotional punch I didn’t think I’d ever watch it again. 23 years later, along comes this phenomenon of internet movie reactions. It’s a bit cathartic and validating to see a new generation navigate the challenging emotional landscape of this film. So thank you for this.

Thank you so much for your beautiful comment, support and subscription, we are truly lucky to have you here among us! You truly made our day! It's funny you said that because I (Denise) remember watching this as a child and though I could not remember most of the film, I distinctly remembered the ending and how much it devastated my little mind at the time... This movie is timeless, and it's truly wonderful to see it still being watched by so many!

Mr. Jingles was around 65 years old, since it had been 64 years since John had saved him. Frank Darabont first cast Jeffrey DeMunn as the D.A. in The Shawshank Redemption, then here as the guard Harry Terwilliger, and finally as Dale Horvath, the lookout atop the RV and conscience of the group, on The Walking Dead.

A mouse lifespan averages two years, for comparison. Fun fact: the author said that John Coffey's initials hint at his true identity.

I saw the green mile in the movies back in 99. Internet was at it's beginings at that time so I hadn't read anything about the story. I went to the movies waiting to see another Stephen King horror movie. In the middle of the movie I had to go to the bathroom. But I was so immersed to the story that I forced my self to sit until the end. I generally keep my feelings in control but this movie made me cry like a little girl in the end. Kudos to all cast and crew in this masterpiece!

The greatest crime surrounding this movie was not committed by wild Bill or even Percy. The greatest crime was committed by the Academy Award people who didn't allow Michael Clarke Duncan to take home the Oscar he so richly deserved for the petrayal of John Coffey!

I think the flies coming out of John's mouth represent Pestilence. In medieval depictions of death and pestilence, flies were always around the people depicted.

A lot of people don’t want to watch it because they think it’s a stupid title for a movie. Well, like Green Mile, it’s not a movie, it’s a film and a great loss to people who will not see it.
