The causes of frozen shoulder syndrome are still poorly understood.
About 50% seem to stem from an injury to the shoulder (such as a fall on an outstretched arm) and these are called secondary frozen shoulders.
But the other half the time they appear for no apparent reason, and these are called primary frozen shoulders.

Mine was pretty much exactly 2 years - both shoulders! You’re right I went to all sorts of doctors. I did PT and there was not difference. Massage therapy, minimal effect. Chiropractor, nothing. I finally went to a pain management center who did really painful deep tissue massages. I got almost immediate relief but there were honest enough to say I was at the point where it was going to resolve on its own. I just tweaked by shoulder playing too much Beat Saver and I’m terrified that it’s going to come back. But your video gives me hope. Maybe this time it’s just a rotator cuff injury. And although, you’re right, my movement isn’t as good as before the frozen shoulder, once it unfreezes, you’re just so happy to have any movement at all that you don’t even care.

The video is spot on, BUT after 2 months of suffering I took matters to my own hands. My ortho surgeon did nothing for the pain, absolutely correct, found a phenomenal acupuncturist which alleviated the pain and I was pain free in matter of a few weeks. Now 3 years later and lots of stretching, yoga etc, you are correct, the range of motion prior to frozen shoulder has not returned to normal.

That must be what I have because mine came on for no reason at all and I'm pretty active and fit and do yoga somewhat regularly. But I've been doing yoga for 20 years. I had no injury or fall or anything, and it's very painful. Does passive range of motion exercise help it? I can't live with this for 2 years and it's been a few months.

Why 2 years? :(

Sadly frozen shoulder can take a long time to go away, but it can take a lot less than two years. There are however treatments and exercises that can and do help address the worst of the symptoms. There are also two good self help guides available on our website www.nielasher.com
