After getting this device a long time ago, I decided it was about time to make a review and demonstration (test) video of it. It is not technically branded as Motorola (as stated in the video), but it's pretty much the exact same device (also stated in the video). I am not 100% sure if it is made by Motorola, but it isn't branded on the device and where I bought it from on eBay. I hope you enjoy this video, and the device!

What brand made the radio mic? I’m trying to find a good one for my XPR3500 at work

Pretty sure these are basically Motorola, I got one off Amazon for work, it’s pretty good, for what it is. Works fine, audio is clear, I’d suggest not dropping it lol

Do you need a licsence for these radios
@firealarmperson4774
@firealarmperson4774 4 года назад
It depends on what you’re using them for. If you’re using them as a home-based business or something in a suburban area far away from major cities like I am, you don’t need a license.

@@firealarmperson4774 oh ok, I am looking into getting new radios in the future and see which ones will be the best for me

ElexGaming - Life Safety Guy Nice! I would still check with the rules on the radios that I have because they could vary in wherever you live. These particular radios (the XPRs) are expensive but they are well worth it in my opinion.

@@firealarmperson4774 I will be sure to check up on the rules and laws in my area, I don't want to get a fine lol. Thanks for the info!

@@firealarmperson4774 You need a licence no matter what area you are in, Unless you are using MURS which those radios are not.

what type of license do you need to talk on these?

None from my understanding for work use or private company use?

It actually depends on what you want to use the radio for, but even more specifically, the frequency bands you choose to use it on. So let's say you're a business wanting dedicated frequencies, then you'd get what's called a "Industrial/Business" License from the FCC. Normally you wouldn't get that directly from them, you'd get it through a B2B radio comm dealer in which they will also program your radios to the frequencies you are assigned or allowed to use. If you don't have a whole lot of uses for radio communications, then you have five Multi-Use Radio Service channels you can use-they don't require the operator (which case, the business or whoever is using the radios) to have a license. Downside is you're limited to 2 watts of transmit power. The last type of license I can think of is the Amateur Radio license. This type of license would give individuals virtually (though not completely) an unlimited use of the spectrum they are assigned (to an extent thanks to voluntary band plans-hint hint, they are there for good reasons though). The only catch is the license is restricted to one person and there are different tiers of licensing that give operators a limited set of privileges with more privileges available the higher class you go. Also you can't use the Amateur Radio band for any activity for any organization that generates revenue. Of all licenses, the I/B license would require you to pay a rather large fee for each frequency you get a license for, and then those frequency licenses would have to be paid on a routinely basis (I think that's once every few years, not entirely sure). Amateur Radio licenses require a successful completion of a knowledge test (like getting a driver's license) in order to be licensed. So back to the question, what type of license in one would need to talk on these handheld radios, it actually depends on the frequencies you want to use. To get a license would also depend on the licensing prerequisites and procedures for the bands you want to use. There's a lot I could be saying about radio licensing and such but it would be a lot to fit in a comment like this so I'll leave this be. Also, the reason why I know so much about this is because I personally have an FCC license and I do know some bit about the regulations surrounding radio licensing.

But in a nutshell, it just depends on the frequency you want to be on.

@@the_1drummajor This is a good explanation. I'm a radio tech in Canada, I've set up numerous DMR Tier 3, Linked Capacity + and even P25 Trunked sites. Similar things apply in Canada as well, although I don't believe we have MURS anymore (I believe ISED got rid of MURS). Just wanted to say, to those who think they can transmit on radios they bought off ebay without proper licensing. Just know that, several people have been caught + fined/warned for doing such in Canada and I'm sure same thing applies in US when you start interfering with other businesses (the worst I've seen is someone transmitting on the frequency of a repeater link for a fire dept). So, please get them licensed or talk to your local radio dealer, they will usually find out what's best for you (at least here in Canada, for a single radio on commercial band/simplex it costs approximately $40 per year to license them through ISED), heck some dealers will even offer repeaters and trunked systems for you if you ever need the extra coverage for small monthly cost ("small" compared to setting up your own system).

@@aandyherr817it depends on what frequency you want to be on. Mainly Motorola radios you dont need a license. But if you wanna connect like a worldwide frequency you will need a HAM Radio License
