Not many reviewers and youTubers would do what you just did there Jirard, you were upfront and even changed your normal modus because of your accepted bias and a willingness not to deceive... RESPECT
I think this is the best way to do it. Everyone who knows Jirard knows he loves the people who made this game. So lying would just be dumb. This shows that he's honest and that there is nothing wrong with being bias!
Seems very on-brand for the era Shovel Knight takes after. Like something weird yet addicting Nintendo would do in the early 90s or so, y'know? Wario Woods or Kirby's Pinball comes to mind. This particular gameplay isn't for me, like, at all, but I'm sure Yacht Club produced a very polished and well-thought-out game for those that are into that style of game.
I don't know if it's just me, but Woz's face makes me think of Eli Silverman. Granted, it probably IS just me, since I doubt anyone here (or even a small contingent of the viewerbase) knows about Barshens or Cheapshow. But I do. And I know that Eli is the King of Plasticine, and a true noodle-lover.
17:41 actually you can disable relics completely in the options which makes doing "purist" a breeze (you can skip to last stage with no drawbacks whatsoever)
When Jirard said scores are stupid I felt that ✊ Plus finding out it's also a rogueliked game with a story from the video and not just another connect 4 like puzzle game had sold me on it :)
I actually completed the game(though on switch which has some problems still) yesterday in anticipation for this episode. Before I saw this channel and played shovel knight I didn’t have much in inspirational respect. Now I have completed 7 games, and thanks to yacht club I actually wish to one day make indie games myself. Thank you both for being the treasure troves of my eyes!
I love playing video games while listening /watching a completionist video it keeps me going and inspires me to get the game. Because i mean the gameplay looks nice.
Your artists, animators and editors are TOP TIER, Jirard -- truly some of the best on RU-vid! Also, at this point you've proven your honesty and I wouldn't even question your integrity.
It’s crazy that all your criticism has entirely been addressed in the two _free_ DLCs that this game has received. The Four Quandries represent not only a wealth of highly in-depth challenges, but also a huge gem sink. The hats from the hat store are also a huge gem sink and challenge mode, and bring a lot of chaos to the game in general. The number of relics has doubled, there are 5 new characters, the overworld map pattern boss fights are now in the stage portals, as are a lot of other events, and more. This game is really, really, really good
I am gonna be honest here, I thought when I heard Shovel Knight pocket Dungeon, because of the pocket I thought it's gonna be a mobile game, but it would be kinda to have on mobile and the controls are simple enough to be translated over to touchscreen
Honestly I think this "unbiased" journalism ethics are BS. I would rather a journalist tell me exactly what their bias or angle is, rather than hiding it behind data, or making a false equivalence to an opposing angle.
As I clicked on this video I knew it was gonna be biased. I'm so glad it just starts with a bit of him showing people why I thought he would be 😂. But this is also an honest review even pointing out flaws it shows that being biased isn't always a bad thing just stay honest!
Ask and ye shall receive, Beard Knight! As of yesterday, Celia, the Yacht Club marketing manager that Jirard mentioned, has stated that there WILL be Pocket Dungeon DLC in 2022! Quoted from a Gamespot interview: "There will be Pocket Dungeon DLC," Schilling said in the interview. "We weren't originally planning on doing it, but we fell so in love with Pocket Dungeon that we're like OK, we have to work on this game more." Can't wait to see what Yacht Club has in store!
Great episode, Jirard. I can understand the reason for the rating you gave, and frankly, I fully support it. Looking forward to the next episode, as always.
Jirard - "I show no favoritism to Shovel Knight." That's a lie, but thabmnk you for being so excited about Shovel Knight, because I've enjoyed playing it thanks to you.
Jirard I might not have watched you in a while, but that’s what I like about you, your happy self when you review a game your either excited or happy for, makes you feel like a kid on Christmas and your so pationate (sorry if I spelled that wrong) with what you do it made me buy games like shovel knight! And shovel knight helped me with some personal issues as well and it was fun doing things like hard mode and the main game with the custom amiibo, so call me bias to cause I love shovel knight and can’t wait to get treasure trove next year, happy new year man and thank you for your service!
@@kirbywithaknifeisawesome6028 When he kills a solo enemy he gets stronger until he hits a group. So you have to go around killing each enemy that's alone while deciding when to use your built up nuke on a group of strong enemies. The other characters are mostly about managing their health as they lose it over time with each hit, but propeller knights enemy management is a lot more fun.
OMG the intro xD I'm in the mist of finishing with the other knights this awesome game, and I was curious about the completionist process of the game, so here we are! Thank you as always for this incredible content, love your channel!
I cannot keep my mouth shut on this anymore. Jirard and I exchanged messages through Instagram when I was only 15, and he knew my age but didn't care and wouldn't let our conversations stop. He deeply influenced me in ways I had no idea he could, and he extorted multiple nude pictures out of me. I'll be forever hurt by this and felt like I couldn't keep this bottled up anymore.
I love this game so much. I got it on a whim before flight home for holidays and it turned a day's trip into what felt like a few minutes. When I arrived home, I spent a day playing it obsessively. It's rare a puzzle game gels with me but when one does it's a magical experience. Only flaw is I wish there was more unlockable relics but the ones there are all so well-balanced that maybe that would ruin it.
Shovel knight is my favorite game of all time and seeing another Shovel knight game makes me happy. And seeing you make a video about Shovel knight just makes things better
I love that you didn't shy away from your obvious bias to it altho you can tell it was more of an advertisement than anything but glad you made it clear your ties to yaht
@@thepenguinsrafterme Sekiro may be the greatest game of all time, really, but I spent 80hrs beating it once. He beat it 4 times in 47hrs...; oof that one hurt my sense of accomplishment lol, but he *is* the Completionist.
As a roguelike fan it is always a joy to see devs iterate on the concept of them with a fresh take and Pocket Dungeon seems to be a one of a kind roguelike. Doesnt surprise me that this game is a phenomenal entry and now that I watched this video I am more than convinced I need to add this to my library of 100% completion games on Steam
There is just nothing more endearing and joyous than seeing Jirard be so excited about Shovel Knight. Then again, Shovel Knight is already a gem as is.
The sheer unbridled joy of Jirard getting to complete and talk about a game he loves, especially when part of it is thanks to his personal connection with the devs, is exactly what we need. Happy Jirard is best Jirard.
its creative, but average. The difficulty spike for true ending is pisswater. The 'game options' to max your stats is proof enough that they knew their audience wouldn't consistently hit that true ending. The key unlocks are ruthless, a lot of the runs with various knights are brutal. Some basic polish explaining 'puzzle vs rogue like' in the title and in the menu options would go a long way. Fans of the game will find it very short, fun, but overall underwhelming.
I appreciate the subtlety in mentioning the Super Bowl in the opening and the colors you're wearing (Red and Yellow). Totally get what you're putting down... 😉
I loved the hell out of Shovel Knight so much I bought the game 3 times and 100%ed on two of those copies. Still, don't think I'll play this one, the genre just isn't something I normally go for. I hope we can get a Shovel Knight 2 some day though.
Sure did enjoy it! And hope your pals at Yacht Club are proud of their accomplishment : Yet another successful Shovel Knight game! These guys and those at Supergiant Games are making Indie titles which can compete against basically any AAA Titles. Simply, Bravo! P.s. You know you could have stamped your Complete It rating on it, Jirard. Being biased about a game or a company does not make your opinion less accurate. I mean, you could have ended up being pickier since you were totally sold on the previous title!
Admittedly I saw Pocket Dungeon and was deeply suspicious of the game thinking it was some cheap mobile game that got a switch port. Glad to have this cleared up.
Beard Knight TOTALLY isn't Jirard... Congrats Beardman for being put in a game finally! And not just as the icon of a trophy for completing the game. Was surprised it never came up in the script...
Jirard “I’m biased so I’m not going to give it a review, reviews are dumb” also Jirard “Here is what the review would have been though” I’m kidding ofc, hope you enjoyed this one lol
Is that a Specter Knight Plushie in the corner!?! OMG! I am so jelly now!! x3 Also, YEEEEEES! Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon! It's so awesome! And I am still struggling to beat Plague Knight!! D:< God, damn it, you little Gremlin! Just join my pack already!! x3
