I hope you enjoy the first episode of Show and Tell Saturdays. I want to point out, I DO NOT plan on doing these every week. But from time to time, when I make an episode, I will post it on Saturdays! I thought this would be an interesting way to show off my game collection 😄

The Japanese title for the Pizza Cats game is Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, the Japanese title for the show. I was on the hunt for that game for ages! I finally found a really nice complete copy in Tokyo for a decent price last month! The Puss in Boots game is based on an anime Tōei made back in the 60s (it was released in the US too) inspired by the European fable. The cat character is named Pero, he became their mascot after the anime did well :)

The Puss in Boots game is actually based on a 1976 Toei animated film called Puss 'n Boots Travels Around the World Which is actually the third film in Toei Animation's Puss in Boots trilogy that started with 1969's The Wonderful World of Puss 'n Boots. The franchise was so popular that the cat became the mascot for Toei Animation.

Fun fact about Diner: it was originally supposed to a He-Man game. The player controlled He-Man as he ran around the 3D-ish world. However, after Mattel sold off everything Intellivision after the video game crash, INTV Corp (who later owned the rights to Intellivision) took the incomplete He-Man game and converted it into Diner.

Looks like you have a real nice sizable collection there, Erin! I love the setup of yours! I remember when Samurai Pizza Cats used to be on. It would come on channel 17 here in Philly, then it was the WB station. Thought it was a fairly decent cartoon, though the one thing I could never stand about that show was the live-action segments with those kids who even back then I thought were really annoying, unfunny and uncool. Never played the game before, it looks pretty cool, and I love Tecmo NES/Famicom games too, and that Vectrex carrying case is badass! Sailor Moon I can admit I watched a lot back when it first started in 95. I used to watch it right before school on UPN 57, now CW. One of my very first crushes ever was Sailor Jupiter, mostly because any girl who had special abilities like electric powers I thought was really cool, and the theme song has been in my head for many years and never left. The Game Gear game really does look like a generic platformer. I never really played Puss n Boots all that much, but after watching you play it on your stream the other night, I feel like giving it a play real soon as it does look like a fun one. Toei is also the same company that bought us Power Rangers and VR Troopers. And Diner, complete in box, that is fucking awesome! That goes for a killing complete in box. I gotta try the ROM of that one sometime as I love Burgertime. Loving the idea of these Show and Tell Saturdays, Erin! There's some potential for those to be even better than James and Mike Mondays and Rental Review Fridays xD! Great video, Erin! Looking forward to the next one! - Mark

This was quite interesting and I always enjoy watching you and Mike as well on streams when I can catch you live. But most of the time I have to watch them when they are uploaded. Anyway this should continue on when you feel like making them. Something different to bring to the table. :) I just got a Dreamcast in the box last week at a local used video game store and have been enjoying it. I only have three games for it so far, but want to get more. As for the Vectrex, that is a system I want to own before they get super expensive. But of course I really want a Turbo Duo PC Engine, Turbo Grafx etc... lol

Oh hey! I just played through _Samurai Pizza Cats_ on the NES a few months ago - it was on a multicart and (along with a half-dozen or so other games) completely patched a fan-translation in. I actually looked into it after playing it, and was SHOCKED to find out it WASN'T a domestic release. Like , we had the show, and the fan translation is SPOT ON in terms of dialogue and tone... it was surprisingly good. AND from the old "Team Ninja" (the Tecmo group who made the NES Ninja Gaiden games)! How did that get stuck in Japan? I really enjoyed the heck out of it, even though it was real short. What a fun game - awesome to see you have a genuine article for the Famicom right there :D

The nice thing about Diner! for the Intellivision is it doesn't rely on a tiny amount of levels repeated over and over with added difficulty. I think the highest level I made it to was 15, and each level was completely unique, no repeats. To me that's absolutely crazy knowing how little memory they had to work with. I've always had a love for the Intellivision. Around 1987 I bought a co-worker's old Intellivision II console (with completely ruined controllers), and more importantly a catalog from INTV (the company that bought the rights after Mattel dropped it) and started collecting all the games I could get my hands on. Toys R' Us was a a great resource, all their classic Intellivision games were maybe three dollars each in their clearance bins along with lots of Vectrex cartridges that I hate myself for not picking up (It'd be 2004 before I found my first Vectrex console) but in my defense I was only making $3.35 an hour part-time, so it's not like I could waste money on games for a system I had never actually played at that point. I pretty much have the majority of the Intellivision library after all these years, and I'd say that Diner! and Hover Force would be my favorites. When it comes to the ECS module (the computer add-on) then Mind Strike would have to be my all time favorite Intellivision game. Too bad my ECS stopped working a couple decades ago.

I remember Bananas in Pajamas coming on after Sailor Moon, and VR Troopers coming on before it. At least, that was the lineup in my area. Very cool that they made a Samurai Pizza Cats game, though! And that Vectrex carrying case is awesome! I wonder if mine would fit in it with the speaker the original owner soldered onto it. By the way, I have some info on Puss N Boots for you. It’s actually based on the Puss N Boots animated movie, “Puss N Boots Travels Around The World”, which itself is based on Around The World In 80 Days. That was one of the first animes I ever watched as a kid. The premise of the anime is that Pero makes a claim that he could get around the world in 80 days, which is quicker than Count Gruemont, the final boss in the game, ever was able to get around the world with all the money he spent. Count Gruemont makes a bet with Pero that if Pero can make it around the world in 80 days, Gruemont will give Pero his vast estate, but if he doesn’t make it, Pero will become Gruemont’s slave. In the US release of the anime, Pero’s name is changed to Pussty and Count Gruemont’s name is changed to Rumblehog. In the US release of the game, they change the plot considerably by saying that Pero already worked for Gruemont, and one day Gruemont say a mouse in his castle and ordered Pero to kill it, but instead Pero set the mouse free outside the castle. In a fit of rage, Gruemont sent Pero through a time warp, and he is trying to reach Gruemont’s time ship so he can return home. There is even a Captain N episode called “Once Upon A Time Machine”, which is based on the Puss N Boots game, so it did have some significance back in the day! I recommend seeing the anime and Captain N episode if you get the chance. I also recommend the Sailor Moon DS game if you like the concept of Sailor Moon side scrollers. It was released exclusively in Italy, so the text is all in Italian, but it plays just fine in our DS systems, and even in 3DS. You end up having to play as all the senshi because each one can get to areas that none of the others can reach. If you get it and have trouble, feel free to ask me any questions you might have, as I have beaten it and got all the collectibles.

Puss & Boots is neat; I like the green burgers you get underwater! The gun at the bottom of the screen is to show you which weapon you have selected. It's been a while, but I think that if you pause the game and press left and right, you can switch to the boomerang or bombs. I've never even heard of Diner, but it looks cool; I'd always thought that the sequel to Burgertime was Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory.
