I flew from 57AZ LaCholla Airpark to KSOW Show Low in the White Mountains to meet my step daughter Ming for lunch at Monica's Cafe, which was fun. The flight took 50 minutes, where driving time is 3:15 - 3:30, or longer depending on where you live in Tucson. I flew direct to Globe, then followed Rt 60 north over Salt River Canyon to Show Low.
Aircraft: Vans RV-6A with 180hp Lycoming engine

This kind of scenery is why I chose to live in the southwest. I picked NM, but I’ve driven through Show Low dozens of times. (Wish I’d learned to fly, but I don’t think that’s on the agenda at age 69 with vision that used to be great but no longer is.)

Thanks. I wanted to film the Rt 60 Salt River Canyon crossing on the way up so I followed it after Globe until the last part, when I flew direct to the airport. I flew direct on the way home. 50 minutes going up, 51 mins coming home... a little shorter going direct, but with some headwind. Fun flights.

Great video, I’m curious as to how you mounted camera! And what kind of camera you used.

Thanks. The camera is a GoPro Hero 11 Black mounted with wingtip fastener screws, using a FlightFlix metal mount... no plastic anywhere due to high wind speeds - 150 - 200 mph. The GoPro app on my phone lets me control the camera from inside the cockpit. No other action camera can let me power down the camera and power back up whenever I want to film something, which lets me shoot clips and conserve battery on 3 hr flights.

Haven't been yet. Is there any other way to get there (other than flying) than Rt 60. That sure is a winding two lane? road!! Last services in Globe/Miami? I like how you got there 🙃

That's the only way I know of without driving a lot further. It's not bad except for the Salt River Canyon part, winding down to the bottom of the canyon and back up the other side. It's actually a pretty drive through there. It takes about 3.5 hrs. It was a 45 minute flight for me... 👍

Yes, there is a fuel station in Globe where 60 turns north.

You can take the 260 through Payson. I believe it's the 87 out of Scottsdale. It's a lot less curvy and smoother pavement I live in Pie Town NM and drive to PHX monthly I don't like the 60 through Globe too much
