Thanks for your very high and very entertaining review of "Showgirls". I saw this movie in the theatre when it first came out, and my response was, "What the hell was that?!" but I've since come to love it. I think my favorite moment is when Nomi's former boss, the scumbag manager of "The Cheetah," visits her backstage at her new show and says, "It must be weird not having anyone c*m on ya." It's such a stupid-good line.
why couldn't it be intentional satire? director paul verhoeven's other movies (robocop, starship troopers, total recall) do a great job satirizing different aspects of american culture agreed about kyle "cowlick" mclauglin hes fine as wine watch twin peaks
That pool scene 😂😂😂😂 I know you have a lot planned but would you consider reviewing Body of Evidence? It’s like a very discounted version of Basic Instinct
The pool scene is the most memorable sex scene I think we’ll ever see. Nothing will ever beat that complete chaos from beginning to end. So many creative choices for such a stunning yet confusing end result. I love it Absolutely, i’m always looking for new things to watch, I’ll add it to the list and check it out as soon as! Thanks 🤗
I lived in Vegas a couple of years. I even drove by the establishment Nomi works at in the beginning. It's off the strip in a dysmal parking lot. Anyway.. living in Vegas was the best time. I LOVED Living there. Highly recommend.
Eric, you're a legend!! I LOVE this movie (I actually have one of Verhoven's mock up storyboards) amongst other things. Going to savour your impeccable take on this important element of film history... And monkey sh1t.
I felt like Gina Gershon and Kyle Mclaughlin knew what movie they were in, had fun with it, and were so fantastic. Poor Elizabeth, well, for one is just a bad actress, but also took this performance way too seriously. My two favorite scenes are, obviously, the pool scene, and when James randomly says, "everybody got AIDS n shit." 😂
I adore you !💗That being said, because you did 365, I would have a itsy bitsy teenie weenie suggestion: review for La octava cláusula 2022. It would be hilarious!💗
I do! Lots of years practicing (and also the magic of editing 😅), but stutters are a funny thing. Mine is very very tame when I’m completely alone, and incredibly debilitating when there’s people around 🫠
I don’t actually think Showgirls invented the genre 😂 just wanted to reiterate how much I liked it for all the wrong reasons, I’m sure plenty of terrible stuff came before it Love Elvira, though I wouldn’t categorise them as the same. I think Elvira was campy and self aware, whereas as Showgirls, they meant everything they did 😂
I saw this movie when i was 16/17 (waaaaaay to early! god lord...) and really have a soft spot for it. Is it good? No. But is it entertaining? Hell yeah! I can propably lipsync the whole thing, i've watched it so often (obviously for the plot *cough cough*) ^^
This movie was seen too young. The rehearsals with James and the crazy crap he says, the auditions, the pool sex, but especially the S.A. scene burned in my mind. Pretty sure that was the first just penis in a film I ever saw, as usually shots and angles still didn't show. And it's not random given what they're doing, but still shocking that it's out there just as that horror sets in and like you say, she was will with just him. How gross are you to facilitate you and your buddies all S.A.ing a willing partner to you? Like oh, I could just have a good time with you... but I promised the guys we were going to have an assault this evening. And as I type that I realize that there's totally been scandals of clubs where famous guys who can get women interested and consent to sex with them, sort of do that to let a whole inner circle of guys target female patrons to S.A. So as unhinged and unserious this and Verhoeven's other films all seem, they all, including this one, seem to tell on society more than we have or continue to credit them for. And that's not good. His films should not be such good satire. They should only be absurdism.
i okay as a woman i must pause the video and ask, did the director of this film not consult the women he was working with before shooting the "im on my youknowwhat" scene?? im trying not be graphic but assuming she had on a pad (bc a tampon is a whole other monster of issues), chaffing! the chaffing that would occur would be too annoying to make anything at all sexy about that. you cant-i-. men need to stop thinking that women waant to do anything sexie when that time comes. i know that it's great for cramps, bloating and such but the act of getting in the move, hell the THOUGHT. no. just, no
Can we all please stop asigning a hairstyle to race? Its braids. Anyone with hair is allowed to do what they want with their own hair. Culture is meant to be shared. And if the point is purely that "its not meant for YOUR hair type" can you without doubt confirm that her hair is straight? Most people have curled/wavy hair.
Braids are arguable I admit, but not all cultural traditions are meant to be shared ("closed" and "opened"). You'll just have to deal with that reality lmao.
