I didn't realize that the knife work on that one was exactly like peeling potatoes. It instantly reminded me of sitting at Grandma's table and doing that to help for dinner.

I do like the sound of the knife carving the hoof. It makes me wonder how much strength is required to make those cuts.🙂

Hiya Tom and Gareth 😊, been looking forward to seeing you all again 😀 👍 My grandees will be happy to watch when they get home from school! They wonder what cows did before all the electricity and beforehand that led up to Tom entering the craft/profession!Perhaps at some stage( in your busy lives) in the future you might give us a little treatise on how it all developed(as it's not one of those things " oldie" G'ma has answers for!) All the best as ever,J.I.M.K Mrs. Australia 🇦🇺 😀 ❤

I also watch other cow hoofing videos by other people, with that being said your cows seem to have very extreme problems. I was wondering if it’s the environment the cows that you trim live in compared to the other cow videos by other people (meaning surfaces they walk on etc). Love your videos

Gareth when you Mum asks Tom to peel potatoes . Does he pop outside to set up the crush and grind them to a nice balance . Or does she just keep him away from sharp knoves in the Kitchen. ?

Do the cows ever get baths to get the mud washed off of them? Also, do they get flea and tick treatment to prevent them from getting lymes disease or worms from the ticks and fleas? Not sure if you have Lymes disease in Scotland
@brigidtheirish
@brigidtheirish Год назад
I'd imagine they probably get a pressure washing. Not sure about flea treatment, but I'm pretty sure there aren't ticks in Ireland. (Graeme's the one in Scotland.)

Cattles hair texture and oiliness of their coats allow them to shed dirt once it dries, the only time we bathed our cattle was when we were showing them.

What would happen to “wild” cattle? I mean, I am not aware of modern farm cows existing outside of captivity, but there are other related species out there. Do they experience all these hoof issues or are these problems largely due to the fact that they live on farms?
@xenoscoot
@xenoscoot Год назад
Auroch are extinct wild ancestors of some types of cattle.
@AntiPlatitude
@AntiPlatitude Год назад
@@xenoscoot Cool. I’ve never heard of that species before. Thanks for the info.
@Deunstephe
@Deunstephe Год назад
These kinds of problems are mostly due to the farm life, as many times it's stated that the hooves are not necessarily overgrown but rather "under-worn." And depending on the farm environment, cows that stand on a lot of softer grasses and such will have these "under-worn" feet since they aren't wearing them down on harder rocks or dirt.
@AntiPlatitude
