Thats a headstrong ram! Complete opposite of my ram Arne, he is always asking for scratches and lies next to you if you are sitting! Also very nice to shear, dont even tie him up
No doubt he felt good, the fleece can harbor bugs like sheep keds which cause itches and bites he can't reach. Lifting off the weight of it frees him to move easily and he probably feels like a lamb again, to say nothing of hot days and rain adding weight. But the shearer probably drank his beer for pain relief in his back, the joints and muscles. This probably took well over an hour and that's a long time to have your nose down so low.
A lot of prey animals have that response. In the wild if they were grabbed by a lion there’s no real point to struggling you’ll just bleed to death faster so they sort of just go limp waiting for what ever is holding them to slip and let go so they can escape.
I don't understand this. Instead of calming him and make him love shearing you provoke him. He will probably always going to associate the anger with the shearing.
How many years growth wool is that? He's in great shape under all that wool! The feral sheep in the news recently were a bit skinny but in quite good shape anyway after carrying so much wool
The ram was an alpha, quite large, very territorial and pretty aggressive. Those dogs are trained to herd sheep, and regularly move dozens of sheep at a time by running around them. Shrek just wasn't having it. He was standing his ground and ramming if you got close. We got him to the shearing shed safely, and picked him up to put him on his back, which is the position they should be in for shearing, as they are calmer when lying down. It was a little clumsy because that is a big, grumpy ram that didn't like being picked up. In the end, he felt a lot better without all that wool. And he lived a pretty charmed life.
werewolf1986 I was just wondering as I'm new to learning about sheeps and I just noticed that Shrek - in addition to being kind of moody, also don't have any horns.
(16:80) "And Allah-True God- has made for you from your homes a place of rest and made for you from the hides of the animals tents which you find light on your day of travel and your day of encampment; and from their wool, fur and hair is furnishing and enjoyment for a time." Quoted from The Holy Quran
@@glenncook4936 Humans have bred sheep for thousands of years, selecting those with the most/best wool. Before domestication, they didn't need humans to shear their wool. Their wild descendants probably never got so wooly.
Your comment sucks. The song is Animal, by Pearl Jam. It talks about being outnumbered, 1 2 3 4 5 against one. The single comes from the studio album "Vs.", which has a big sheep on its cover art. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant, Laura. The song fits.
