I'm left-handed so I learned open-handed on the kit! But I'm still no where near yours or Sputs level :P Plus, I love the Snarky Puppy drummers they got... possibly a Larnell Lewis cover soon?
WOW!!!!!! So worth the wait for this video!!!!!! I am just beyond amazed at your range of material and your abilities! You, truly, own every piece you do. Well done indeed!!!
thank you so much, Devika. I'm working every day to get my tempo right, I will soon upload something a bit more progressive! I'll let you know when it's up!
He llegado a tu canal por Caravan, pero veo que simplemente eres alucinante, se ve como sientes la música. Bueno, que tienes un nuevo seguidor, sigue así jaja
Really cool idea show the original drummer alongside you. I don't think I've seen that before. What was it about this song that made you want to do that?
It wasn't the first time that I applied this technique. There have been others: ru-vid.com?o=U&video_id=IEUmVk84CwY ru-vid.com?o=U&video_id=A7Y8TJLJlNk . ^_^
Loving the red hair man that's awesome. The playing was awesome. If I may leave some constructive criticism it would be to practice keeping your ghost a little lower and softer. Like the man sput himself.
Yaaaaaaay!! I was getting bored because you was 2 month inactive and then, you upload your great content again :d ...ty for this videos keep doing it. Also *I LOVE YOUR SMILE*
Hey Devikah, just wanted to say that you are awesome! And just one question, how do you learn the songs? Is it by ear? Or you manage to get the sheet music for those songs?
es la primera vez que te veo tocar me gustó mucho, verte tocar me recordó a la película de whiplash jaja si no la has visto te la recomiendo saludos. tocas muy bien
Damn girl! That is impressive! You are a lot of fun to listen to and watch....You have such a unique style. By the way, who is your camera guy? I for some reason imagine it being your father saying "smile." I say that because the first time I wrote you you thought I was a drummer friend of your father's so I have no reference to anything you do regarding making your videos etc . You're sounding and looking great! I really think you are destined to go so far in this business. I will always be rooting for you! As usual I talk too much so you have a great night! ✌
LOL My dad is both my drum tech and camera dude. And no, he never says "smile"; that comes naturally. But he does like to do some funny dances and facial expressions while I drum. He says it's to help me loosen up. Thanks. ^_^
No need to be sorry, Xevi. I'm slow on picking up on things sometimes. I only use two overhead condensers in a Y configuration. Roughly 3 feet above the snare and pointed east-west. If you only use overheads, you can play with the different sounds of the set by changing the location of the overhead mics. ^_^
get it girl! yeah a lot of traditionally gripped drummers have trouble with the transition to open handed feel. luckily i learned open handed haha (curse of the lefty)
That's very cool that you learned it. In many ways, it's a logical way of drumming. Left hand for left-sided stuff and right hand for the other side. It will take me a while to learn it, though. So ingrained in the cross-handed way. ^_^
haha i feel ya on the ingrained in our ways feel. its tough for me to play cross handed but when i do the transition from open to crossed and vice versa is so fulfilling. skys the limit haha
I hear ya. I like learning new stuff anyway, and open handed is definitely new. Glad it comes easier to you than it does for me. Enjoy the wide open spaces. ^_^
Take the video of Sput that's inside mine... break it down into small pieces... then string them together. Sput teaches you how. Just learn from him. ^_^
Oh, absolutely. You can never have too many friends to talk about prog and other fun music. By the way, do you take requests, Devikah? I have something old and proggy (and fun) on my mind that I'd love to see it played, but alas I know nothing of drums and there are no video records that I know of of that song.
I gotta be honest here. What's the big deal about playing a cover exactly the same as another drummer? That never was something that inspired me. To create an exact duplicate of another drummer. Oh well. Thanks. ^_^
at least know the difference between hitting drums and playing drums... good transcription of his playing but it lacks feel and musicality.. try to make your make your double strokes more defined rather than sounding like buzz rolls
