The thing I was most struck and moved by in this video was the transition of Shia's face in that end shot. The way you can literally see him give up, his eyes gloss over in despair when he can't get out of the cage, no matter how she pulls at him. It's the perfect metaphor for mental illness, depression in particular, and/or addiction, which I believe was the intended subject matter.

I see it as him trying to break her walls down and reach inside,but her past experiences won’t allow it. She wants that love,wants to believe,wants to trust but decided it was better to be safe than sorry. Everyone has their different opinion on this one,and I think it’s interpreted differently for each person.
