Words: Aleksi Nurminen
Music: Jean Sibelius
Composed in 1930 as a march for the Lapua Movement (Lapuan liike).
Picture: Viljo Knaappi heading the delegation from Isokyrö during the Lapua Movement's Peasant March in Helsinki July 7 1930.
"When patience ran out and indignation exceeded the boiling point, the people of South-Ostrobothnia rose up; they said: on these plains God will not be mocked, the fatherland will not be insulted, nor will treasonous writings be printed or distributed.
The rising in South-Ostrobothnia resounded in might over the entire country; and now God is no longer mocked in public, the fatherland is no longer insulted nor is treasonous literature printed. This has been the accomplishment of the people's movement."
- P.E. Svinhufvud, 1930

Karjalan miesi! Kutsun oot kuullut:
Nousta on aikasi äärestä työn.
Yhteisin voimin, hetki onpi tullut,
Poistamaan maasta turmion yön.
Läntinen veljesi joukkohon uottaa,
Vainoa vastahan taistohon käy.
Vieläkö viivyt? Turhaanko luottaa,
Vaarako vielä ei silmääsi näy?
Etkö sä muista, Karjalan miesi,
Rutto jos rannoillas raivota saa,
Lähinnä itää on kotiliesi,
Täällä on ensiksi tuhkana maa.
Siksi sun aika on säiläsi nostaa
Yhtehen yhtyä toimintaan.
Näyttää kuin Karjala konnille kostaa,
Juuria jäytää ken syntymämaan.
Karjalan miesi! Aika on tullut
Koota jo joukkosi lippusi luo.
Vieläkö viivyt, kutsun oot kuullut:
Petturit maallesi turmion tuo!
Kansaasi uhkaa kalman kalpa,
Jos sinä hetkesi laiminlyöt.
Massa kun mataa joukkio halpa,
Idän ilkeän sillä on työt.
Karjalan arpa tuiskussa on seistä,
Silloin kun vaarassa on tämä maa.
Vaara jos vaatii, välkytä peistä:
Uhata ei maata petturit saa!
Karjalan miehet! Vapaus vaatii,
Velvoittaa veljien kärsimä yö.
Sankarihaamut haudoista haastaa:
Sortuuko tuhkaksi meidän työ?
Taatoiltas kalliin perinnön oot saanut
Veljesi henkensä uhrannut on.
Vuorosi tullut, rauha on laannut,
Kätesi nyt oisko ponneton?
Turvaksi nouse uljahin miehin,
Karjalan liedet ei kylmetä saa.
Suureksi Suomi, ehjäksi kansa,
Turmion tuottajat rajan taa.

Man of Karelia! You have heard the call:
It is time to rise up and cease your labours.
All together now, the moment has come
To rid the country of the night of ruin
Our western brothers will join us,
Let us join the fight against persecution
Are you still dallying? Trusting in vain,
Can you still not see the danger?
Don't you remember, man of Karelia,
If you permit the plague to rage on your shores,
It is your fireside that is the most easterly,
This will be the first area to be laid to waste.
Thus it is time to raise your swords,
All of us united in our endeavours
To show how Karelia will take its revenge on the knaves,
On those who gnaw at the roots of our homeland.
Man of Karelia! The time has come;
Gather your forces around the banner.
Are you still dallying? You have heard the call:
Traitors will bring ruin to your country!
Your people are threatened by the sword of death,
If you let the moment slip by.
A common rabble is slowly approaching,
Intent on doing the east's foul deeds.
Karelia's lot is to stand amid the storm
When this country is in danger.
If the danger demands it, raise your lance:
No traitor may threaten the country!
Men of Karelia! Freedom demands
And requires our brothers to endure night's suffering.
The ghosts of heroes are summoned from their graves:
Will our work turn to dust?
Your forefathers have given you the most precious inheritance
And your brother has sacrificed his life.
Your turn has come, peace has been relinquished,
Surely your hand would not now lack strength?
Gallant men, now rise up in defence,
Karelia's hearths may not grow cold.
For one great Finland, a united people -
The bringers of ruin must return across the border.

I've been a Finn for decades, but I've never heard this patriotic compose of Mr Sibelius before. Oh my God, the Bolshevics have stolen not only a part of my fatherland (Carelia) but the history of my country too.

Sibelius was pretty hardline nationalistic and supported IKL and Lapuan liike. A fact that modern finnish elitists try to hide.

@@Vulcaani Modern left thrives on historical revisionism so a change in attitude is not exactly surprising.

@a karelo-finnish follower of the christ Of course he is. Maybe even due to it. Strong nationalistic feeling and pride in his country might have contributed to his work.

Just seek for a means to have Russia collapse. That is what it takes. The west betrayed us last time and if it happens again the next time we will inherit a nuclear wasteland, but at least there is the consolation that the enemy will be exterminated more comprehensively than the nazis ever even meant to. A war more total than any before in the history of warfare.
