This kind of CG impresses me way more than star wars/avengers et all. Good CG should go unnoticed and when first watching this film, I didn't notice.

One of the most underrated movie when it should simply be one of the best. Story, cinematography, proper use of CGI (hell, If i didn't watched this video, I wouldn't even know it there is), director, fight scenes choreography. And that border stand-off, just epic.

This explains that “certain something” I couldn’t place my finger on while watching. Never thought any of that was CGI....except the rubber looking corpses.....when I first watched the movie. Thought it was all practical tbh....cgi done right.

I'm sad to say, since it's one of my favourite films ever, but I had same feeling here and there also. And I think they could have gone with more raw feel in some parts using just practical. The aerial view of bomb hole, the bodies, a proper Blackhawk here and there (but since it not pro-military film, it might have been an issue)...

@@nabilbudiman271 Why I said that is military can be directed by film makers on budget if it serves PR purpose. That's why you can see pretty decent military craft shots even in B-movies.

Even though I know this kind of CGI is easily possible nowadays, I never would have guessed so many shots of the convoy in the border crossing would have been CGI! Brilliant work!

The director didn't oversee the grade and apparently the DI was done in less than a week because it was almost completely as Roger Deakins shot it on the Alexa XT. But there is this interesting yellow effect with the Alexa XT in full sunlight. The same exact 'grade' is visible on the full-sun scenes of Skyfall, also shot by Roger Deakins with an Alexa XT and Zeiss Master Primes.

This should be shown in all schools of cinema and courses on how to correctly & intelligently use CGI. While there, show it to many actual directors too, lot of them need a lesson.

Not making visual FX front and centre means that not only do the actors perform better in a real 'set', but minimal use for set extensions just enhances what is already there. I'd never have figured a lot of this for VFX. Always blew my mind how they managed to film a shootout on a border bridge road for example.

I would say that there's a world of difference between augmenting shots with discrete set extensions- as displayed here, and placing actors in an entirely virtual greenscreen environment, where they recite lines to ping pong balls, as per Marvel films

Imho NOT FILMMAKING, MORE LIKE COMPUTER ANIMATION, therefore should carry a warning label at beginning, they have it for, SEX, VIOLENCE, SMOKING..ETC ETC ..and these CGI films should have own category at OSCARS. Actors are no longer acting but merely CGI props. Imagine TRUE classics like Ben Hur, Casablanca, Bogart talking to a GREEN SCREEN of Bergman. I enjoyed this mixed material CGI and Human FILM but would have liked the notice beforehand.

Subtle way to use cgi to help the cinematography and story telling or if you budget is limited, and not turn the whole movie into an ugly cgi porn fest like the justice league or the phantom menace , I dont even see the point of calling them life action movie ,they are just animation features
