Mukherjee charts the questions, discoveries, and mysteries that led to the formulation of modern genetics, and he offers a variety of ways our insight into heredity and our ability to read genetic codes will influence our future. Unfolding his own double helix, Mukherjee keeps in perspective both laboratory science and how its discoveries play out in the real world, reminding us of all the individual lives bound up in humanity’s fate.
Mukherjee is
in conversation with Judy Woodruff.

Road to hell is paved with good intentions. With our limited capacity to think & understand deeply & broadly as a human species in that what we think a single tweak in our genome might unknowingly have a cascading affect in a long run with a devastating consequences. We need to tread very carefully what we wish for - a disease free body

@@zazalila5450 yes! I am an economic student as well. But I understood this book as well as his Cancer book. Take your time to assimilate the information because this book will change the way you look at genes. Also, if you liked this book, then I highly suggest you to read The Empror of All Maladies.

it is indeed a fascinating and revolutionary idea. But is the code too sacred for any tug at it which may have the potential to affect the future of mankind? It is a pertinent question as this code has stood the test of time and has ensured the longevity and propagation of the best life form. What if the genetic disorder in a person is a result of the instruction and pro-active nature of the Code to choose the fittest? Can we assume that the Code has issues of corruptability and sterility and an attempt to subordinate it will be the 'liveliest' thing to do?

What do you mean by "What if the genetic disorder in a person is a result of the instruction and pro-active nature of the Code to choose the fittest?" Godwin Rath? Are you thinking that this is a kind of deselection?
@prithivnatarajan
