Thank you, Simon. This reaffirmed: I want both decks 😂 Unfortunately, I can't afford both, so this helped 🙏 The Modern Witch is more true to RWS. I like that. But I really enjoy TMH's depiction with every day things, like coffee cups and the Temperence card has milk jugs! And I ADORE the COLORING! That did it for me, such beautiful coloring! Thanks again! 🙋♀️
I LOVE YOUR COMPARISON. I LOVE MY MODERN WITCH DECK. ALTHOUGH I FEEL A BIT CHEATED SINCE I DON'T HAVE A DECK WITH GILDED EDGES : ( THESE TWO DECKS ARE SO SIMILAR. AND EVEN THOUGH I FEEL THE "THIS MIGHT HURT" SEEMS A BIT MORE CARTOONY IT MIGHT BE A WISE ADDITION TO MY COLLECTION. - THANK YOU
I love both decks but if I absolutely had to chose one over the other I'd go with the This Might Hurt Tarot. Both decks are phenomenal, though, so I got both.
If i am not mistaken, the "Everything Is Fine" card is the start or origin of the Modern Witch Tarot. It all started with the Meme culture lol. I remember that people are either scrolling through Instagram, Tumblr or something similar and found this artwork which is an artwork that is inspired from the archetype of the Tarot and being used appropriately. in this case, it have the vibe of being hurt, passive aggressive, mental health, deep issue etc. I love how the Tarot evolve. for me personally i love both of the deck as it is pleasing towards me. I found it is interesting that both deck have similar vibe and some of the cards are better if switch with each other places lol hahaha. I'm conflicted in choosing both deck but of course if can, purchasing both is better options but if to choose one first I will go with The Modern Witch Tarot. The Vibe of the Deck: Modern Witch Tarot = vintage art style with modern twist, have mature vibe to the characters, traditional nature background, strong feminine deck. This Might Hurt Tarot = cute and simple with modern design, urban sceneries, gender diverse deck, humorous caricature art style.
Lovely side by side, Simon!💖 I don’t have either, and it was so helpful to see both decks side by side! For me, This Might Hurt is the winner! Talk about tempting...😝
Both of these decks are gorgeous. I recently purchased the Modern Witch deck and I'm glad that I did. The this might hurt deck has lovely illustrations which remind me of modern cartoons like gravity falls, hilda etc. However, I do favor the MW art style and colour vibrancy. I would buy the TMH deck as a gift for someone.
I don't know why, but watching this walkthrough I realise that I appreciate each deck more BECAUSE of the presence of the other... 🤔 so now I may have to get the MW in addition to my TMH... 😂
I’m at the beginning stages of my tarot journey (Aug 2019) and years into my spiritual journey and universal oneness journey and your channel has been so useful. Your calm energy and light comes through in all your videos. I have been binge watching your channel as well as many other of my favs in the RU-vid tarot community. And I’m sure that it’s no surprise that being new to tarot I have been purchasing decks almost like a slight addiction. I have been really trying to show some type of restraint and recently I have been eagerly hoping that you’d do this specific comparison but it’s literally a few hours late and I am now some $$ short because I went ahead and purchased the TMH deck this morning. I love and connect with my MW deck but TMH, while seemingly similar, keeps calling me. But I told myself, no, wait until Simon does a comparison. But gosh darn it, too late. 😄. You’re still my fav!
Aaawww that’s lovely to hear, thank you for your kind worlds. I can totally relate to the deck buying bug... it’s like you feel you have to play catch up right?
@@the_hermits_cave exactly. But I feel as if I am growing out of the catch up phase pretty fast. It's less about what looks nice to me for the moment, and more about what calls out to me (Druidcraft) or what decks are vivid in my dreams (Borderless Waite) balanced with, do I already have a similar deck that does it (Modern Witch) and am I ready for that yet (Revelations). I am learning to appreciate that though sometimes a deck looks nice to me, but isn't made for me. Your videos have been teaching me about the details in the art in each card AND the personal connection that one can have to them. Truth In Story - OMG she's been very instrumental in teaching me about all the pieces of all 78 instruments. This is truly a wonderful journey and I just want you to know that your videos matter! - sorry so long, I'm chatty.
Both of these are lovely...but This Might Hurt is a clear winner for me. I have Modern Witch on my list, but I am not in a huge hurry to get it. LOVED this side-by-side video. ❤️❤️❤️
Jen's Balanced Tarot Thank you lovely. As you know this was a request, as I love them both for their individual perspectives and wouldn’t otherwise compare 😉
Must say: very much prefer the left deck. The color palette is more attractive to me, there are many dogs throughout the deck (yay!) and it's modern without having phones and laptops depicted in the cards, which is kind of a pet peeve of mine. :D
Thanks for the comparison. While I was leaning toward the TMH deck, I didn't like some of the animal violence. It definitely helped seeing them side by side.
I love the age diversity in the This Might Hurt Deck. I really want this deck but it is sold out everywhere. I will be stalking the internet until I find it :)
Love side by side...very informative when trying to decide. I'm looking for an xmas pressie deck for a friend where not all the characters are white. I've had such a lot of trouble finding decks which just have dark skin. (She'd class herself as black and UK). Do you have any recommendations. So far the Modern Witch is my favourite. I'm hoping eventually the black community tarot readers will come out with a few more designs.
Between the two, I ended up buying This Might Hurt Tarot. It feels more brought to life. Nearly all of the commenters seem to be in agreement with me. On one hand, I really want to like both equally because there are a lot of great qualities to Modern Witch that aren't there with This Might Hurt Tarot. There are a few instances where I think Modern Witch did a better job. However, I feel that This Might Hurt Tarot did much better by far.
The gold gilding was only available for the first print run. I have the pearl edges from the second print run but am sorely tempted to get the black edges from the third print run since that was the one I originally wanted!
(super noob at this here) For me, it’s the solid yellow background that I just can’t stand! Also, I really really love the view on gender that is portrayed in This Might Hurt, and the creator’s explanation of her view while creating the characters.
@@the_hermits_cave I'd absolutely love for you to give your opinion. This will determine if this deck will be my next and final deck purchase in 2019 - though my recent pre-order of the Mythical Creatures - technically was my last order of 2019!! LOL
