Siding Removal Shows Just How Bad This Is! Tracking down the water leak from outside that is causing our floor joists to rot, we remove the metal siding from the kitchen and bedroom wall and find the biggest shock to date on this remodel of our 1988 Palm Harbor single wide mobile home.

Metal roof and vinyl siding with vapor barrier tyvek etc.. before spending any money inside the home. New windows and doors then start interior, otherwise your throwing away time and money.

It's a blessing that you know what you're doing and the two of you work so well together. Imagine finding that 'tip of the iceberg' and not having the skills to fix it or patch it until budget allows repairs. It's so nice to see you still have a fun sense of humour through it all.

I have inherited a single wide. It has a metal roof over kit installed. The home is sitting on heavy, poured concrete runners and still on it's wheels. It's everything in between the roof and foundation that has me very concerned !.

My compliments to you both on your tenacity and creativity in meeting these home improvement challenges...not to mention your courage in sharing the journey with the rest of us. For anyone owning a home, we must all make choices about what and when to fix problems, and ALWAYS based upon resources available at the time. It's the reality most of us face. Cheers, Ardith

I reframed my windows to fit a common size window that Lowe's carries. They are vinyl dual pane and far better than mobile home windows. I also have replaced all exterior screws with the hex head neoprene washer screws. You would not believe how much water is entering your house around those rusted exterior screws. Our $600 hardwood floor project turned into a $2,000 rebuild. 😂😂😂

You're bringing back a lot of memories from when we were a young married couple starting out. We had to fix up, make do, do it ourselves, all with very little and borrowed money. We got an old house from my parents on the farm and I built on 2 bedrooms and a living room when I was 21. We lived in that house for 45 years and raised our 3 kids there. We renovated and finally had the house in nice shape but a year ago we had a fire totally destroy our home, we lost everything but the clothes we were wearing. We are days away from moving into our new home, the one we always dreamed about. Good luck, do the best you can, hope things work out for you.

I've lived in a mobile home for about 16 years and have learned to make sure all outside repairs and mold are repaired and removed, before making the inside beautiful. Black insulation and rotten wood is not good. If you have mold in the wall no air purifier will make you safe inside. I had to spend 5k on my home for mold removal, then the repairs in the floors. Just make sure you make it safe for yourself and your family. Your family can have health problems from it. Just as a side note, my home didnt have much black mold but instead a white mold you couldn't see, just smell and after the mold testing the report said it was not safe for humans to inhabit, so be careful. I have enjoyed your remodel and have learned alot.

You two are working really hard and doing the best you can!!!! You all couldn't find some type of under lay or Osb board to put outside to box the insulation in, and began putting vinyl siding instead of that metal siding outside. Do 1 side of the side per payday to fully waterproof the home. That siding is your only defense against the weather!! Your home looks nice inside like those newer mobile homes. It just serms like you all need to research exterior materials that you can put on that outter side under that metal siding or under new vinyl siding!!!!

Awesome work. Owned 1993 single wide new. I started in 94 with my preventive maintenance. I caulked, insulated, foam sprayed and checked for leaks all the time. Cool sealed the roof. Cleaned gutters. Washed and waxed the exterior aluminum siding. replaced and caulked exterior screws. Every six months I inspected and touched up seals and joints. Water is your worst enemy. Keep up the good work and remember constant maintenance and you won’t have to worry about a re-do. My heart is with you. You love you home just like I loved mine. It will last!

I used the spray flex seal on my car's sunroof. The drain channel goes from it to the floor of the trunk. It is supposed to drain onto the road, it gets clogged from stuff on the road. It kept the trunk full of water and then it started leaking into the car. It filled the headliner and started coming out at the windshield and the light fixtures. I came out after it had rained to find about 3 inches of water in the floor board. After I got the water out, I went to Lowe's and got a can of Flex Seal. I sprayed it on and just had to add another layer about every 3 months because of the sunlight. I hated that car so many things were wrong with it. It was an Oldsmobile Aurora, 2001, it's a GM. All that wasn't as bad as the fact that it accelerated on it's own, either when you started so you had to turn it off and on until it stopped, or while you were driving it would do it. GM didn't want to talk to me. I don't have it anymore, I sent it to the junkyard so no one else would be almost killed by it.

Uuug...more water damage! It seems never-ending doesn't it? With Flex spray and the flashing tape that leak should be gone until you have time and money to attack it from the outside. The air filter in your room is important until you get it cleaned up permanently. Over 40 yrs ago, when Pop set up his mobile, he built a pole building over the whole thing with enough overhang to put a deck around two sides. I thought it was overkill at the time...not so sure now. Although we've had to replace a bathroom floor, kitchen floor and, the granddaughter's bedroom floor in the front, is getting iffy. All caused by plumbing leaks....so it's wonderful you're addressing the plumbing now. One step at a time and you'll have a nice, safe, solid home for years to come! You two work so well together. I love watching you :)

Trailers were meant to be cheap housing. That is what they were and the old ones still are. They could be better, but then the cost would be higher. Modern new trailers cost almost as much as a reasonable shape used house with land. The older ones can still be had for cheap. It is what it is. There are measures you can take to increase energy efficiency in older trailers, it's just a matter of how much you want to spend on it. The problem today is that housing costs too much due to all the code. The average person can't afford to buy a house or even a new "manufactured home". I spent one-thousand on my old trailer. It's paid for. No monthly mortgage payments. I can do with it what I want. If I want to burn it to the ground for the jollies, I'm out a grand.

@@markthompson4225 yup its all to do with greedy people trying to save a dollar . they cut the workmanship in half to save and then they say who cares about 30 years later to the next person that gets it . a bit better sealant and a proper fitting and then no rot damage .

Pex is good stuff.. my traditional home had galvanized pipe that was in terrible shape. I was able to re-pipe it myself in about a week with Pex. I did the band clamps and not the shark bite fittings. It's been 3 years now and everything works great.

@@andreawheatley5528 True that but I think I bit off more than I could handle refurbishing a 1979 mobile home on my own. I'm ready to get out from underneath this project.

Great video, again, guys! You have accomplished so much! Don't stop now! Will those red and blue pipes also run water for your ice maker? No plumber knows it all. I, however, know I never want to replace 30' of hot and 30' of cold water lines under a non-underpinned mobile home in February again! lol They say,"Leave those pipes dripping over night", for a reason. ;) Best wishes, peace, and love!

So happy to have found y'alls channel. Bough mobile home from 90s with not disclosed but assumed many patches and needed work. Biggest is the floor, sooo many floor mini sinks. Big job ahead but y'all give us hope on getting it done a little bit at a time.

Wow. Are you going to replace the insulation in the walls. I didn't realize there was no wood between the metal siding and the insulation. Love your show. Great job.
