In this video I show you how I repair a rotten rim joist on the Abandoned Mobile Home Project.
This is a common repair on older mobile homes. This home is 40 years old. It looks a lot worse than it is.

Thank you for showing this! Much appreciated. My husband and I will be moving into a mobile home after living in block homes our whole lives and I was wondering about mobile home repairs. #1 on the list: take care of leaks immediately! lol Blessings!

Looks fantastic, Kent! I don't think there's a problem you can't fix. I look at that mess and think it's beyond help. And then you just fix it no sweat. I love it.

Mercy..mine have steel joists every 4 feet. Bolts are rusted tight! Guess a grinder take em off. Itll be a 3 man job and I'm only 62, but i may tackle it piecemeal. I just need a few years and some insanity lol.

Do you have a video of jacking the trusses off the wall to replace the bottom plate? My trusses are scissor, and Im not sure how to place the temporary header to safely jack them up. Can I jack three studs up from the outside by bolting 2x8's to them without the jacks kicking out?

p.s. I've liked and subscribed. Can you please tell me if it's easy enough to pull aside the skirting and to look under a mobile home and to pretty easily see if there is wood rot or termite damage? Thanks a bunch!

We have this problem. They didn’t hang the siding below it and our cinder block foundation skirting so water ran in. Nice that it’s not load bearing and TOO much of a structural issue.

How do I replace the composite board underneath the sill plate with osb? Am I okay to just use an oscillating saw to remove it? Will the studs move if I cut it out before replacing it?

wish you would've shown how you got the 2x8 up by yourself, that is one of the most difficult parts when I'm doing it. Also, would like to know your thoughts on best thing to do when levelling a trailer isn't an option but repairs still have to be done (like what are minimum parts to fix). Also, how did you take care of the mold?

I just did this on a 80' trailer in Waverly TN that was flooded out. I stumbled onto your channel looking at jacking this trailer up so it can't flood again. Very interesting. And I immediately noticed your in WA state. Somewhere around Puyallup I'm assuming. I grew up in Bellingham... but live outside of Nashville TN now. Cool channel. My sister in Moutlake Terrace needs to watch this stuff.

Good afternoon, Sir! I found your vid because I am getting ready to do the exact same thing to my mother's mobile home. The header rotted due to the prior owner attaching a small deck directly it under the back door and it trapped moisture. Little nervous to say the least, any insider tips/hints you can give me for this job? If not, I'm just going to follow your vid.

Hi, Keith. The video pretty much covers it. Just use it as a guide and you should be good. It looks intimidating but really, it's not that difficult. Just make sure that you take the steps to weather proof things as you put it back together using the tarpaper and flashings.

The way you attached the rim board to the floor joist will it be strong enough to attach a ledger board for a deck?
@BCRenovationMagazine
@BCRenovationMagazine 2 года назад
Chopshop, the restored rim board would be strong enough to support a ledger board for a deck, but it is recommended that decks be built entirely self supporting. In fact, here it is a code requirement. I explain how we make our decks self-supporting in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iLFgrp5UbPc.html
