Sierra Adventure Game Tier list! 

Man, there's so many games on this list I am proud to say I've completed, but so many on this list that you put up on high ranks that I've never played. Good thing you probably have them on your channel or you will be playing them eventually if they are high tier I would think. Sooooo happy you put QFG1 there, and Space Quest 3 was my favorite out of the group *Slight Stare* jk lol aside from me putting SQ3 with QFG (only because of opinion and favoritism) this list is really friggin accurate! I really like how you gave a brief synopsis on each of these games, every talk over you did could be 100% a steam review that should be the default review.

Phantasmagoria great to see that game getting some love. Only thing I didn't agree with on this list is the placement of Larry 7. That is top tier instantly.

I think you should have ranked King's Quest V as SS because of Cedric. I mean, wow, such a great character. He should have become the mascot of Sierra!

I agree with much of your conclusions, and I appreciate that you noted the beautiful graphics of Conquests of Camelot. Many people look at me weird when I say this, because the graphics are very old of course, but they are extremely well done; much better than many later games.

I saw that PC Gamer came out with a list last month ranking Sierra games, and I didn't even bother looking at it because I had a feeling it would annoy me, but THIS video was a genuine joy to watch. I agree with so many of these rankings, and your overall commentary was great. :)

yes the Quest For Glory series is awesome! I see what you mean about QfG3 but the setting and place within the whole storyline makes it more interesting for me. Your hero has become much stronger by that point so the political dynamics surrounding the story are different, you're sort of expected to be a bad*ss by then. That also makes it interesting going into ep4 because as you said you're just a stranger again, albeit a much stronger stranger than the bumbling guy from ep1.

If you want to refine your list someday, you could always rank each tier from best to worst. Mayby also add the games left out of this one while you're at it; Mixed-up Goose/fairy tales, Heart of China - though not sure which Dynamix games really count as Sierra's (SQ5 at least has a Sierra designer on it and obviously it can't be left out).

I think Gabriel Knight 3 is the best game from Sierra and one of the best adventure games ever made. DirectX 6 has aged like fine milk, but graphics is well designed. Puzzles are also good. There is that poor make disguise puzzle. But there is also make treasure map puzzle, which is genius, but very hard. This game requires that you learn lots of church history from middle ages. So if you don't like that, avoid this game. Otherwise this game will rock your world.

i am almost 20 years old and i actually grew up playing sierra games! my daycare majority had 80’s and 90’s pc games! i always gets stuck on kings quest until one day i finished kings quest 4 in front of everyone! i definitely need to get into the others. i think laura bow 1 will definitely be the next game i am going to play starting tomorrow!!!❤️

I know you're an RLM fan - have you ever watched Jack and Rich Evans' Sierra playthroughs on their old Previously Recorded channel? Their PQ2 playthrough is one of my favorites.

I agree with the vast majority of your ranks! I'd only change 3 things for me personally: 1. I'd switch Phantasmagoria 1 and 2 in place. I really enjoyed the sequel, it was such a weird game that I liked it more because of it! 2. As others have said, Larry 7 is "S" rank for me. 3. Larry 5, for me is a B rank. The only complaint I had about it, was all the steps you had to do with those damn tapes at the beginning of the game that, if you didn't do it before you leave your job, you're boned at the end of the game and have to start over.

I'd mostly rank things pretty close to what you did, but with some big caveats: I totally support you're praise for Phantasmagoria, flawed but so very entrancing. I'd for sure put Camelot into S tier - maybe Longbow too, but the arcade stuff doesn't hold up as well IMO, so probably in A. I don't think CoC has it out for us, it's just the right amount of challenge, no big dead ends, perfect writing, setting and interface. GK3, I'm used to it's discrimination, but I don't get it. It's up in S with GK1 for me. The dumb bike ID puzzle is just a flash in the pan of a brilliant story - and I love the graphics and free camera. I may have nostalgia goggles for Black Cauldron, but I had just a engaging and scary early experience with it, I have to put it in B, if not A. Really good kids game that doesn't coddle you ala Mother Goose. I think you're a bit too hard on SQ6 and KQ7, but I get it, I felt the whiplash when I first installed them too. I really look down on the simplified interface of KQ7, but I also do for KQ5, in the end the whimsical atmosphere won me over. Manhunter is a love/hate relationship with me - there's no game quite like it. Don't know where I'd put it. I don't quite love Colonel's Bequest, it all seemed so random and trial and error. But I've only played it to the end once, and failed to notice whatever I was supposed to. I'll try again sometime. Clearly I also have to try PQ2 - so far I've only played PQ1EGA and enjoyed the story. And I'll also play Iceman in spite of your warnings - it's of the Camelot/Hero's Quest Era and I have to see for myself, even if it breaks me. :))

haha found this list after I saw the INSANELY BAD list on PC Gamer. No GK2. No FMV at all. Mask of Eternity in the top half. Knocks GK3 for its graphics, but praises Mask of Eternity. KQ7 at #7?? Wow. And that's just scratching the surface.

police quest 3 was the first one i played seriously so it has a special place in my heart but i do enjoy the 2nd one the most because of one big reason. no driving. and better than 4 because it still had heart and 4 was just pure police simulation with very little feeling to it compared to the first 3.

I agree with literally every rating here!

As a Gabriel Knight fan, I agree the third entry is the weakest. But I still love it because for all its bad aspects, at its best moments the game is simply amazing. The whole famous Serpent Rouge puzzle, the general treasure hunt feel, the research in the Schattenjager databanks, snooping on the treasure hunters music etc. They balance my overall experience with it.

grew up playing a lot of these. lol at codename iceman, i remember needing my id at some point on the sub, and it was back in a guy's pocket at the pentagon because i failed to check the id when the game said "the guard hurriedly shuffles through his pockets and hands you an id" where apparently they randomly don't give you your own id lol. my favorite overall series was quest for glory, my favorite was playing as a thief with magic abilities. paladin next coolest.

I really enjoyed this video. Although I would have ranked some of the games differently, for the most, I agree with you. You're never going to get everyone to agree 100% with you as we all have our own personal experiences with the games. I, for one, played more of the Space Quest and King's Quest games so they would have placed much higher for me. But I really enjoyed this video and am looking forward to more like this. I wonder where you would have placed Thexder and Heart of China on the list.

I love KQ VI I still need to LP that game for my channel. SQ IV the only problem I have is the annoying copy protection mainly having to put in symbols for different time periods. SQ V I haven't played that game in awhile did it have any copy protection I just remember enjoying it except for that part where you have to dodge the atomic loogies that the mutant spits at you I'm surprised I got past that. Gabriel Knight I I never could get past the zombies in Africa. Dagger of Amon RA I either kept getting killed by the killer during the chase scene or not having enough evidence and winning but dying by gunshot in the ending cutscene. Never did finish The Colonel's Bequest. Never finished KQ I,II,VII. Never played KQ III, the original SQ I,II,III, LSL I,II,III,V. Wow think I rambled on enough anyway great video.

got quest for glory 2 for Christmas the year it came out. i found it a month or so before Christmas in my dads closet and it was almost impossible to not open it and play.

I enjoyed watching that. As someone who's not as travelled in Sierra catalog it was very cool to hear a perspective from someone who is. I think my favorites from Sierra is Quest For Glory 1 and Kings Quest 6. I do like KQ7 too though. I'd be curious why you think Rosella is really that bad if that really ruins the whole game for you. Jones In The Fast Lane is a blast, I agree.

Have you played A Tale of Two Kingdoms and Heroines Quest? Both are on Steam by Crystal Shard games and are excellent (IMO of course). AToTK is like Kings Quest and Heroines Quest is pretty much QFG6. HQ is actually free but don’t be fooled it’s just as good as all the old Sierra hand drawn games and just as long to complete if not longer. Great list, Shadows of Darkness is my favorite Sierra Quest game as well which makes QFG5 such a letdown. But yeah, you gotta try Heroines Quest if you haven’t already especially since it’s free.

Glad you called out kg7… I remember it first coming out and seeing the cover and just feeling deflated… it immediately did not feel or look like KQ it looked like Disney… and then playing the game everything felt off… was gutted

Nice ranking... but I think youve been a little unfair with KQ7, putting it in the same slot as KQ8! I really enjoyed that game.

This was fun but oh man, your LSL 5 ranking hurt me personally :D It's my fav of the series altogether, so good looking and loved the travelling. On a side note, that game introduced me to the name Donald Trump (he was mentioned in Atlantic City and in some of Patti's dreams).

I only just did a blind stream of Gabriel Knight 1 a month ago, I quite enjoyed that one.

Imagine SQ3 not being ranked anything less than superior.

KQ5 on PC is the only leaving me scratching my head, due to the puzzle solutions being pretty weird, a zillion ways to make the game unwinnable and the whole "Oh, you missed an animal? Sorry, you lose!" thing going on throughout the game. KQ7 as a D is understandable, though. I grew up with the game and got me back into Sierra stuff, but it is a bit too easy, was animated by Animation Magic, who worked on a bunch of CD-i games, has the problem with Rosella being more of a princess than an adventurer, and gives you a villainess with no motive and is just "evil pink and black woman make volcano go boom, go stop her." I like it, but it has not aged well, and some of the things in it could have been better executed.

Agree with everything on this list. Only difference for me is that Sq1's would be reversed and kq3 would be an A rank game for me.

What about the Coktel Vision games at one point they were part of Sierra too

I remember a real online Sierra world, Red Baron over the internet playinh against other real people. What was that online space called? Why can't I find people talking about it? I was on it when it started and up until the price went to like $35 a month.

When you mentioned the first SWAT game did you know in the 1st mission with the wife locking herself in the house and threatning the husband and daughter. The husband is played by Roy Conrad who voiced Ben in Full Throttle

You missed out heart of China and Eco Quest another couple of good games.

I was surprised. I expected to disagree with much of the list, as everyone but me is totally incorrect about Sierra because I am the absolute authority. However, aside from feeling Codename Iceman and Manhunter were mistreated, I actually agreed...UP UNTIL KINGS QUEST! 1,2,3 are all S rank. I was 9 when I beat 2, so...get gud! I admit...3 took me a while because of the spider thing...you know what I mean. Also, because using a walkthrough or looking up a puzzle online means you did not solve it, your life is a lie and you can never claim you solved the game. This is fact, beyond contestation...be honest! You would not have this opinion if you missed out on the feeling of accomplishment from solving a puzzle Steve in math class could not when you where nine and he had better Jell-o. I have corrected your incorrect list entries, because they were wrong. However, your list gets an A rank, because it was shockingly accurate. Quest for Glory 1(EGA) is without a doubt, the greatest game ever made. (I even did a fan re-orchestration of the intro. I did one for KQ3 as well but that one kinda sucks. I’m so glad I quit Iceman after like a few minutes on the submarine. Now that I’ve seen the walkthrough, I know I would have wasted countless hours or days playing the most tedious and boring game Sierra has ever made
