What are the dislikes for? This is a great Master,one of the best teachers of the system today. Dare not dislike what he shares with us!

1. wrong distance 2. upper arm is not in a 90° angle to the forearm 3. the arm is not in a 90° angle to the body in a close distance and with full hip effort you will never be able stop a hook with this technique

I think some of you missed the point. This is an idea, represented by this particular technique. He stressed the body structure and the principle of attaking the attak. the idea might help you in a fight not a single technique.

I like very from Sifu Sergio, that he has always a open mind, and he is not tired to learn other WC styles.

Alas, even the seemingly "simple/basic" boxing techniques don't work all the time as everyone knows from watching matches. Because success depends mostly on the skill of the fighter... speed, dexterity, sensitivity, reflexes etc.... But I'd be the last to say that boxing techniques are "horseshit." Do urself a favor & go challenge a WC teacher...even a bad WC school. Then u can boast all u want about how shitty WC is from ur experience. Or perhaps u'll learn something. It's a win win 4 U.
@matreyia

Do u think that if there were a boxing video about defense against x or y technique... should that defense technique would work 100% of the time? Or would it depend on the dexterity, alertness and reflexes of the defender? If this technique failed someone, does this mean it's "bullshit" & should be discarded? If there were no video of "real" fights containing this technique, does that also mean it's complete "bullshit"? U see a piece of paper before u, but don't see the sun inside the paper.

I think get someone who can throw at least a half decent hook punch, a long hook in this case. Then get them to throw that punch at full speed at a focus pad or heavy bag and then assess if you think that counter technique will be effective. If you think it will, pad up and actually try it out! I think we could apply this approach to most counter techniques. Imho

Basically a very well made lesson, but they are focussing on the tan sao or fook sao to deflect the punch. The more important thing to concentrate attacking punch with the other hand initiating the counter attack. The tan or fook is just for security and seazing the opponents incoming power being send back at him with the encreased punching power. Principle: Seaze the opponents power and add your own power. It's the punch that knocks your opponent out, not the tan or fook sao!

Why do you think this is the correct way? I'm trying to decide what to learn.
@huaxzhang

It's rather hard to hear the details. I got the following points. Would be good if someone could confirm/comment/correct: 1. The blocking hand (his left) should be palm down rather than palm up like normal taan sau. This gives stronger structure to jam incoming hook. 2. Do simultaneous attack and defense to preempt the other person from continuously attacking.

I wish that all these martial artist would lend credibility to what they are teaching by actually going to a gym that specialize in the style of fighting they are defending against.If you have a defense for a boxer.a jujitsu expert, etc etc then go to that gym and demonstrate against a expert in that field, i am sure most gyms would be more than happy to accommodate you, and not against your student prentending to be a expert in that field.I dont know why it is so hard for martial artist to get over their egos and put their techniques to the test to see if they actually work.Nobody else in any other sport does that swimmers do not swim on dry land only martial artist.

@AlleNamenSindWeg Not sure why you say this is not effective, I have personally used this method to block real-time attacks from real aggressors. 1. In WSL VingTsun, we close the distance stopping the opponent from throwing counters with power if they get chance to throw a second at all. 2. The upper arm would have to rely on strength alone (muscle power) if you position it at 90° 3. Why would the arm be at 90° to the body, that would mean it is stretched fully out? Send my regards to Qaasen

I would not use tan in a fight I would use my forward hand like a jab , then keep punching, you cant have time in a fight to use blocking against people from choy lay fut they would drop you before you even started .

@AlleNamenSindWeg how do you judge a training technique like this in comparison to a real fighting application of said training? Obviously we do not always fight as we train. Apart from having perhaps not expressed yourself very well, you critique makes no sense. Maybe I am not 'getting' what you are saying, but the training example offered here is a good one. Oh and count me in to those already listed here as someone who has used this in a real situation and knows it is useful.

I wish they used a more realistic hook to display the effectiveness of tan sau
@fortythirty1950
@fortythirty1950 Год назад
There is a difference between a swinging punch/haymaker (like displayed in this video) and a real hook. The hook from short distance won't be blocked by tan sao.

And boxers do not throw punches like this my friend. U try that against a big indigenous aborigines fellows in the out back. I mean really really

Imo tan sao is good against guys who cant box BUT not against a boxer. Bong , lap , pak saos are more practical i feel
@fsr186

This is good for an open punch of a street brawler. That's not a correct use of a boxing hook. The distance is all wrong. Sometimes, the hook is also too low, and this makes it easier to defend in the way the teacher is showing. Is not a bad defense, but the scenario must be improved.

So u think this requires fine motor control? Then ur lack of knowledge on WC is apparent. The demo appears to the untrained as requiring fine motor control since it is being explained in detail. Pak sau doesn't require fine motor control, however it requires ingrained reflexes. Reflexes aren't the same as fine motor control. Likewise, boxing appears basic/simple on the surface, but is quite technical & scientific & profound if u study it. If u don't, it's natural to say things u've said here.

@DragonDeSoupe Hi matey, Agree with your sentiment about the punching hand being important - if his head is flying backwards its very hard for him to let off a second shot. I think the reason they are focusing here on the other arm (ie the tan/fook arm) though is simply that it is harder to get that one correct, so more attention and explanation is needed. The punch is the same punch you do everywhere else in the system so probably doesn't need the same amount of explanation in this exercise.

The first time in my life that I see a sifu who doesn't believe in his technics. He should change of style. That's show his lak of knowledge.
@dingfeldersmurfalot4560

You could apply that to any martial art. Is Yang or Wu or other styles of Tai Chi a result of teachers who did not believe in Chen style and should therefore drop their martial art entirely? Everyone is bound to have their own way of looking at things, and martial arts aren't frozen in time, even classical ones. Have a more open mind.

Uhhh.. the "great" Sergio "presents". So where is he there? Looks like he's abusing a record that he stumbled over. Can't believe that Sifu Peterson has allowed himself to be harnessed to the cart of this nutcase Segio. On the other hand, people make mistakes out of sheer politeness. I dont know the circumstances. But one is for sure: Sergio is not having any idea of real Wing Chun - his art ist just a disorientated and funny potpourri of his neverending search once he started with WT and thus being lost forever. But Sifu Peterson has skills. And this so called presentation is a (for audience) rather useless snapshot of training / explanations.

It’s around 14 years ago, you are very welcome to come for FREE to any of my seminars so you can judge by direct experience, instead of assuming and placing an ignorant comment. You should read my book “The History of Wing Chun & the six core elements then you might understand a little bit more and perhaps not write comments like this.
