@zackeryhardy9504
@zackeryhardy9504 4 года назад
@@manuelfrancisco5113 In a lot of music orchestral music brass players often get 2 maybe 4 notes in an entire 45 minute long sonata. So their entire job is to count. Literally 1..2...3...4....1...2...3...4 and do that the number of times so that they enter those 2-4 notes on time. So most of the performance they are literally just sitting in place counting. So if you mess up those 2 - 4 notes like Bret and eddy BOTH times it is going to be VERY noticeable. Especially because a lot of people are in the orchestra are going to be thinking "you had 1 easy job and you failed." But that's why you practice. You got to be just as good at waiting as you are at playing to last in an orchestra. And make no mistake, waiting can be screwed up easily especially if you aren't paying attention and lul yourself into a false sense of security of having 4 easy notes 23 minutes into the piece.

Brett and Eddy fail to realize the artistry that is required to count rests musically. Could you enlighten me on why you need to transpose so much? As a flute player I never had to transpose myself. Everything is written the same.
@runrig97
@runrig97 4 года назад
@@carlosgabriel8243 Trumpet is a B-flat instrument. Flute is in concert pitch. Imagine having to play everything a whole step higher than written. I'm assuming OP is referring to music not already transposed for Bb Trumpet, though I imagine professional musicians (not me) are expected to be able to transpose on demand anyway..
@trumpetmom8924
@trumpetmom8924 4 года назад
Carlos Gabriel The first trumpets utilized in the orchestra were natural trumpets with no valves; they played exclusively on the natural harmonic series of the instrument. Most were in the key of D, and then added sections of tubing (called crooks) to the mouthpiece end to lower it into different keys. All the trumpet (and horn) parts were written with no key signature, and “C” was always the tonic of whatever key the piece was in. When the valved instruments were introduced, most composers continued writing the way they always had, in “C”, and a note of the key. So trumpet and horn players have to transpose or switch instruments. It’s better to simply learn how to transpose in your head, than to switch instruments, because most “special” key trumpets have 2 sets of slides a half-step apart so you can own fewer horns, but if the piece changes from one of those keys (i.e. D) to the other (E-flat) within a couple of measures (Wagner liked to do this; Mahler too), you don’t have time to switch out the slides. Most trumpet players today play on C trumpet, B-flat trumpet, and have an A/B-flat piccolo trumpet for Baroque clarino parts (think Bach Brandenburg #2, although most trumpet players use a G piccolo trumpet for that one). I know a lot of trumpet players who play pretty mich everything on C trumpet, including parts for B-flat trumpets. Most horn parts are transposed into F, so horn players don’t typically have to transpose as frequently as trumpets. Trombones rarely transpose keys, but do have to know tenor clef. Tubas transpose even less frequently, and I don’t think they use tenor clef (tuba friends, please correct me if I’m wrong here). Hope my long-winded comment clarifies! (Edited for spelling)
@Cysubtor_8vb
@Cysubtor_8vb 4 года назад
@@trumpetmom8924 Well, tubas don't transpose per se, but if you play multiple tubas in different keys you have to learn different fingerings to play the same part. Commonly, professional players would have a CC contrabass tuba along with a bass tuba in Eb or F and use the one they feel is more appropriate for the particular piece. Think British Brass Bands are an exception as their parts are transposed to treble clef and have parts for both Eb & BBb tuba. Additionally, an orchestra trombonist may need to be able to read alto clef for some alto trombone parts even if still played on tenor.

I’m only 5 feet tall- I couldn’t see around the chimes, certainly not through them, and so I had to angle them “*just so* to be able to see the conductor.
