It's about time I reviewed my first ever Sony E mount lens that I got almost a year ago. Is the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 really all that its hyped up to be?
Check it out for yourself!

This lens is so versatile and lightweight! The images came out of this lens is amazingly sharp and the colour rendition is very good! I love this lens!

Just bought this lens recently.i have to agree it's amazing and sharp. Using it on my A6400 I was cheeky and used it on full frame A7Rii and was still amazed at the quality at 18mpx. Great video mate yes it's a good lens totally agree...

I've been trying so hard to find the review video of this Sigma lens, how does it differ from Sony kit lens. And I'm glad that I found your video! It's very insightful and easy to understand. Love it!!!

Using this lens with the new Sony A6700. Absolutely awesome combo! The A6700 is fantastic for the price point. My main camera is the A7IV for pro work, the A6700 is for fun.

Sounds like a fantastic combo!

A bit of a correction! I mentioned the chromatic aberration being there in unfocused highlights but the fact is that it's present in the highlights both focused and unfocused. Stopping the lens down to even f2 will get rid of most of it and it's not too heavy, but it's still there. It's still a fantastic lens and I do recommend it for everyone who needs a zoom lens for the Sony APS-C camera.

Great video! Have a Sony A6000 and A6400 as well. Have your photography images been sharp without motion, since there's no OSS? Have the Sony 18-105 F4 that lives on my camera, but a smaller sized Sigma f2.8 is intriguing.

The lack of image stabilization does not bother me at all as long as it keeps the lens nice and compact like it is. I just bump up the ISO and shutter speed on my Leica TL2.

1:20 this lens is APS-C that means in the FF mode focal lenght will be the same, but the resolution of photo will have 1.5x drop. The logic with 1.5x multiplier works with FF lens on the crop sensor

I don't see why not. Maybe a straight up macro lens would be a good addition to that use, but as the "only lens", I could definitely see the Sigma handling all your needs thanks to its versatility.

Great optical quality! About the stabilisation, you talk a lot on it, but, if you don't do video, like me, the lack of stabilisation is not a problem at all. With my old high optical quality Sigma 60mm f3.5, I've done great stable pictures at 1/25 sec. So for pictures lover the absence of stabilisation? No problem. My recent fantastic purchase (Marc, 2024) of the Sigma 18-55mm it will replace the Sigma 60mm and the Sigma 19mm. (My camera is the Sony A6000, the lens quality was always a prime importance vs the Gadgets in the other A6xxx The quality of picture is almost the same as the A6600 and the A6700 but for photos.

Depends on your priorities. Changing ISO to 400 from 100 effects dynamic range in addition to noise. Stabilisation helps.

Heay mate do you have a video for Sony FE 90mm macro lens? I’m learning how to use it. Not too sure how to get a perfect macro photo of my daughters eyes 👀. Send help please 🙏🏼 much appreciated.

Hi! I have recently excited street photography and have only prime-lenses. Thinking zoom-objective is better for that and wondering are that Sigma 18-50 mm good for that purpose of use? I have crop-sensor camera now. Can you recommend that or something else?
@villerasku
@villerasku 9 месяцев назад
The Sigma is definitely a great lens for street. I've personally used it for street several times. I have found myself missing some reach with it though, so another lens that I've been curious to try would be the Tamron 17-70 f2.8. I am on a Sony crop sensor though, so if you're running another system, you might have some other options.

@@villeraskuOk. I got Nikon's Z50. There is no wide range zoom lens available, not that Sigma's yet but my local camera store says that Sigma will release soon it. although, I have planned that next camera body is full frame, so buying full frame lenses may be good idea so that when I change, I got it already.

I just bought this lens for my a6300. It seems very sharp but some of the colors seem off. It turned a teal blue chair from greenish blue straight to baby blue. All green was gone. It also seems to over expose some areas making them whiter than they are and is only correctable if zoomed out when set to Auto. The exposure can be corrected when in manual but i dont want to bother with a manual shot all the time. Especially when traveling. Any suggestions? I also prefer to keep my entire shot in focus. I'm not sure how i will end up liking the constant f2.8. I feel like i would prefer a constant f4. Please share your thoughts. I dont like bokeh but want sharper images than the kit lense. Is there a differnt lens that anyone would recomend or a way to cut down on bokek and not over expose my shots while using this lens in auto? I really like to have the entire image in focus and i dont need it turning night time shots into daytime. If there is a shadow in real life i would like the shadow or dimmnes in the picture as well.

I haven't had any such issues so that sounds strange. Especially the "over-exposing some areas" - part. To me, that sounds like (if lens flares are assumed to not be the cause) a defective lens element, which could be a stretch. Or, a problem with the sensor. Or, maybe something funky going on with the connection between the lens and the camera? That's really hard to say, but I can say that I've had no such issue and my colors have been spot on. Very slight white balance corrections every now and then but that's normal.

@villerasku thank you very much for the information. Yes I also found it odd. At 18mm the indoor picture looked fine colorwise but everything was brighter than in actuality. If I zoomed in past 24mm the areas with reflection/highlights on the leather turned white.

What is the aperture around 35mm? and 50mm?
@villerasku
@villerasku 11 месяцев назад
It's a fixed aperture so it is whatever you choose. If you set it to the widest f2.8 then it will remain 2.8 at whatever focal length you use.
@dylancurcio5388

@@villerasku Im really stuck between the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and the 18-50mm f2.8. All I have currently is the Sony a6100 and the kit lens. Im leaning more towards the 30mm for the 50mm feel. And the price is just too appealing. Also, the sigma zoom is just a little too similar in what the kit lens can offer me. What do you think?

@@dylancurcio5388 Get the 18-35 mil now and at a later date also get the 30, if you can. Edit: The 18-35 covers the 30mil range so get it first i think

@@villerasku Sorry for the dumb question - absolute beginner. I went to see this lens a few days ago, but unsure how to change the aperture? on my current lens, there's an aperture dial on the lens itself. How about on this lens - couldn't seem to find it on the lens itself.
@villerasku
@villerasku 11 месяцев назад
@@pl0xx0lp No worries. The aperture adjustments happen on the camera. So, there's no way to change it on the lens itself.
