People who say the boycott should've been the plan from the start do understand the reason why it wasn't, and that reason is the organizers don't understand the concept of a boycott. They think it's like the petition: a temporary campaign, "don't spend money for X amount of time", when really a boycott is indefinite. Don't spend any money on TF2 until *all* of the demands are met. This could take days, weeks, years, or even the lifespan of the game. It also doesn't have to be a centralized effort, either. Every individual boycotting may have his own win condition. I personally have stopped giving Valve any money at all until and unless Steam goes completely DRM-free (which I know will probably never happen), but in regards to TF2 specifically I won't consider FixTF2 a success until and unless the matchmaking system is reverted to the old quickplay system AND the majority of the bots (all bots, not just cheater bots) are banned. Others have much looser win conditions, only wanting the cheater bots gone, while some others have stricter win conditions than me, wanting the game to return to being pay to play.
I think announcing the boycott in tandem with the summer update is the best idea, getting everyone on board at the same time is what makes a movement. But I think people shouldn't be spending money on TF2 AT ALL right now, regardless of weather were officially boycotting or not. I've spoken to people who say that they will buy things now before the boycott starts, and this is a ridicules sentiment. I think we all should've stopped spending money months ago, but only publicly announce to Valve that we have been doing so for a while when the summer update starts. So TD;DR: I agree
The real reason was to give Valve a chance to do the right thing on their own. The community doesn’t want to look entitled or psychotic as some more aggressive online fandoms have in the past. The TF2 community wants to look sympathetic and justified in their actions so that public sentiment would be universally aligned with the players over Valve. And now that has been established that Valve does need a massive push do the bare minimum, a boycott is more justified. As for the reason that the summer “update” is the general target, it’s essentially Valve’s last chance to show that they are doing something (as it has been at least a month since the movement started). And while I do agree that people should start now, it also might make a difference if TF2’s revenue went sharply down when it should be going up, so if people want to make their usual or small purchases until then, I think that is fine.
@foxeye245 Valve has had the chance to do the right thing for almost a decade since they caused the problem and three years since the first SaveTF2 "protest". What your describing is what the original SaveTF2 was marketed as. FixTF2 was and is marketed as the active protest against Valve, hitting them where it hurts. Unfortunately, it took too long to reach the point of hitting them where it *actually* hurts, their wallets.
Remember, Valve Is a private company, so they are expected to operate discreetly and avoid disclosing sensitive information in that regard. So do expect them to be radio-silent. Look at the good that came out of it, Valve has been meticulously silently gathering information on the bot hosters/cheaters' illicit activities from Omegatronic's associates' discord server and many other sources while tracking down their Steam accounts, This strategic approach has led to initiating the ban wave; Speculations of a new potential VAC anti-cheat software might be in development. Despite these promising developments, it's crucial to stay level-headed. While we may have achieved some victories, the battle is far from over. With all being said, we must proceed cautiously and refrain from making hasty assumptions. Long Live TF2
I'm glad this movement inspired me to create a (half-baked) video for my channel. It truly showed me where I needed to improve as a content creator (absolutely everywhere lol)
Heres what will happen! 1. Petition ends 2. The number gets printed onto a paper 3. The paper gets delivered at valve's office 4. They will take the paper and throw it into the trash 5. Nothing happens. Solution? BOYCOTT IS THE ONLY WAY STOP GIVING YOUR MONEY TO VALVE!
That's not even a good idea either. If VALVe sees that TF2 is no longer making as much money as it used to due to the boycotting, then they might just shut down TF2 as a whole since it's no longer profitable and takes up too much unnecessary costs for server hosting. And if we stop spending money on steam as a whole, it still won't have an effect, because it doesn't matter if 300,000+ people decide to stop buying games from VALVe. They still have, like, 100,000,000+ people who still pay for stuff, and might not even know about what's happening in tf2. The best solution, unfortunately, is to just wait and see what happens. VALVe does seem to have done at least SOMETHING this time, unlike what originally happened with SaveTF2. Maybe our luck will be better this time. Maybe not. Only time will tell. Corrections: - VALVe would not shut down TF2 just because of a boycott - I still don't think boycotting is a good idea right now. Let's see what happens with the original proposed concept for fixtf2. And if that don't work, start boycotting I guess. - I kinda just loosely based my entire argument after something I heard from the original Weezytf2 video, but I think I heavily misconstrued what he meant originally, so uh, whoops.
@Shadowpon_yt if they did that, which they wouldn't because it would crash all of their game economies, it would still be preferable to the status quo of letting the game rot with a bot-amplifying matchmaking system and official insertion of community modes and items of exponentially decreasing quality. It wouldn't be ideal, other things being equal I'd rather have Valve servers exist than not, but the game would be better off without casual mode at all than with casual in it's current state.
@@Shadowpon_ytnot only would that get valve into a lot of lawsuits, but Valve still runs servers for Team Fortress Classic, which they actuall have no reason to since nobody plays on them, they barely profit, and people play on community server bots instead. Still, boycotts now aren't a great idea, for a different reason.
I dont play TF2, never have, but some of my friends do. I signed the petition because I want them and all of the TF2 community to enjoy the game. Hope that helped! Stay strong and good luck!

so glad they fixed tf2, i think the whole community was worried nothing would happen.. hopefully they keep working on a complete fix with the bots as we have been here before, fingers crossed
8:00 i mean if that's what you think personally i am just mad at the bots existing if that's gone am happy i dont care about the other stuff also content updates would be lovely but at this point they are more of a nice addition than a requirement, bots being removed is a requirement tho
i don't think its a good idea to end the petition, just because we had some noticeable half fixes and the bots are (for now) being banned does not mean its a good end, we still have to keep going instead of just giving in so early just like savetf2 because eventually the bot hosters will find workarounds to what steam is doing. give it a couple months and tf2 will have the bots back and people will keep blaming valve instead of themselves for giving in so willingly and just giving up.
Yeah, bot hosters are shit, but a billion dollar coorperation sueing people for hosting some bots on a game is way to far, they would basically ruin peoples lives for ruining games.
@@nifflergaming8922 mate, I hate to break it to ya, but the bot hosters were also doing straight up illegal shit along with just bot hosting(spreading "Club Penguin" and other illegal shit in their discords and using the bots to spread these discords, impersonating other parties without their consent, etc cause theres way too many examples of the shit they're doing) it would be almost nonsensical to not have them sued at some point. they've dug themselves into their own graves at this point.

You know even though my computer was found still running windows 7 and can barely run tf2 i still like playing it at 5 frames per hour and it explodes when it see the color purple and i am a vary new person to playing the game
Why are we stopping collecting signatures? I feel we should keep it up, no matter what. I feel it's a 'bad idea' to do so. That and, if I may, Weezy should be following that not spending money mantra in relation to the boycot.

while i may still be spending Money on the occasional Steam Sale, i'll definitely be halting any Purchases on Valve-developed Games, not just TF2. if the Bot Crisis can be allowed by Valve to continue for as long as it had to a game as beloved as TF2, that does not bode well for their other Games, and i have no faith in them as a Game Company until they prove they can get their shit in order.
I do, I just don't play on non vanilla TF2 community servers. I play Uncletopia often, but I don't play "Insta respawn", "10X servers" or any non vanilla tf2 experiences.
i dont think we should get too spoiled we wanted communication from valve cause of i think the bot problem mainly and now we seem to be good atleast i think we should just see if they are gone till the summer update cause thats our goal i think we might just make valve think nothing will make these people happy its not worth it might as well leave them lets focus on bots and nothing else if they are gone till the summer update i think we should be good
