Signs You Won’t Get The Job 

For me personally, overpreparation or even just slightly more than minimal interview preparation increases my anxiety during an upcoming interview 10-fold. I don't always get a job with little interviewing preparation, nor will I always avoid all interviewing anxiety, but I am consistently less anxious and more confident on job interviews when I don't do more than bare minimum preparation. It's also way easier for me to problem solve and think on the fly in an authentic manner answering job interview questions that I may not have been prepared for ahead of time. This also has the benefit of helping with negative emotions after getting rejected from an interview. I'll be less likely to feel as bitter about a rejection if less time was wasted in the job's process.

It really is a punch to the gut.

That's the way to go. That way you are quite likely to end up with multiple companies that want you, so you have a lot more leverage in the salary negotiation.

Exactly. Even when I got strong affirmations from employers at the end of an interview, I still kept looking for other opportunities right after finishing that meeting.

Lucky! My interviewers flat out gave me the reason for not hiring me was because I didn’t know Spanish… I really need to move far away from Florida 😢 Edit: when recruiting, they didn’t even mention I needed to know Spanish

Totally agree. Lots of employers think that they are the only ones wielding power in the decision process.-You can very well scrutinize and reject them before they have the chance to say no to you!

ive dealt with something similar. very disorganized boss who at the same time seemed like a tightwad, i got the job but eventually left bc i couldnt handle her personality

@@BenTalksTalent one of the things I never agreed with (and I see it less today) was the personality test. I'm more of a shades of gray type of guy and I used to fail those tests. I eventually just started answering them how I know they wanted me to answer them and did great, but if I can just lie to get a good score what's the point? It just seems to punish honesty and reward liars again.

Totally fair Tania. More times than not I would say it’s not a good indication but there are exceptions.

Facts. Last time I stressed for a job was pre pandemic like 2017. I was worried my faded blue hair and lack of job in a long span of time would ruin it for me. I had the owner and the manager both interview me, twice. Super easy. I stressed.for nothing and it was my fave job ever! Still bffs with my previous manager. Now it's been 2.5 yrs bc of covid and I'm freaking tf out on all the things.

I agree. I’ve absolutely nailed an interview and the hiring manager just didn’t feel a need to ask any more feeler questions. Sometimes it can be a very good sign.

Yes. I remember my first job it wasn't a long interview but here's the difference. You know it's not a bad sign when you actually get hired on spot an u fill out the necessary documents. The same when I worked at home depot it wasn't a long interview seconds in I was already hired. They told me on the spot so it all depends on what's going on

I wouldn’t look at that as bad. You wouldn’t encourage somebody to try again if you didn’t want to see their resume again. Just my two cents

Considering 99% just ghost you and never give any feedback, this was very nice of them.

There’s a system. There’s criteria you have to meet in the interviewing process. If you’re a generally good fit, but aren’t meeting criteria, they want you to try again if they offer advice and steps to get there. If they’re just giving ambiguous advice, I wouldn’t work for them.

While almost all of the "stuff said" was told to me on my current job (I now run the entire system, sub-department, and methodology, so it turned out well), I knew I had it when the department head told me, "Wow, this interview was like meeting my new best friend." Yes, yes, it was. It still is. I love this job.

Even then, companies can just use new employees for 90 days or so on a probationary period just to turn around and make their position redundant, laying them off. If they aren’t willing to commit to someone without that, then they are just not that interested in you and just want to use you for the time being.

This is what I was about to say too! I’m so nervous right now I interviewed 2 rounds and went over time in both none of these red flags happened. I waited & they said they’d have results by last week so they did give me a solid time but still nothing has come about and so don’t know if I should email them again :((

@@nobumino I wish you luck and I hope they get back to you soon! For me, I’m doing my best to try not to obsess. The universe decided to help me out with that and take my mind completely off the fact that the new company has not gotten back to me. I got home last night after a miserable 12 hour day, opened the garage door, and found my hot water tank decided to blow up during the day and 50 gallons of water was on the floor. Then I had to call the fire department to make sure I wasn’t in any danger. A big fire truck came with lights and sirens blaring. All my neighbors were looking out their windows. So much drama. 🙄 Today I had to call out from my miserable job while I wait for the delivery and installation of a new water heater. I can honestly say I didn’t think about that new company once and I got today off! That’s pretty awesome. 😂 the universe works in mysterious ways. Crossing my fingers for you! Good luck!

I hope you followed up! Managers have busy schedules and it is easy to develop tunnel vision when it comes down to final 2/3 candidates.

@@BenTalksTalent I also really wished that supervisors and managers would just be honest with me. No BS-just tell me how it is even if it’s bad. I feel like I waste so much time and effort trying to translate what they’re actually telling me between the lines. It was a particular issue with a supervisor at my last job. He would lie to me about the most stupid things about the job, even when I 100% knew he was lying to me. I’m out of that situation now, thankfully but I’ll always wonder why he did it. Most of the time I could figure the reason for his lies. Usually it was to gain my cooperation with things that I didn’t want to do and the employment laws prevented him from forcing me to do it, such as overtime. For example it’s really close to the end of my shift and the final aircraft we’re supposed to clean before the end of the the shift was delayed and now it’s too late-my shift would end part way through cleaning it. Since there’s no point going to it because by the time all the equipment (aircraft stairs, water and lavatory trucks ect) is in place and the passengers have disembarked I would have to leave to go back to the crew room to sign out of the electronic sign in/out machine then go home. So because I’m not the only one whose shift is about to end and the supervisor doesn’t want to be short staffed, he lied to us in claiming that we had to stay and do overtime whether we wanted it or not. Basically trying to force us to stay on to help finish off that final plane. Fortunately I knew my legal rights which dictate that employers can only ask employees to do overtime and cannot force them to do it. He didn’t like it but backed down after my polite reminder. On another occasion I’d been treated really appallingly by management and the supervisors who didn’t do anything to help me when the chronic short staffing meant I was the only person on duty all night despite having had 24 hours to find me help or come do it themselves. So I made discreet negotiations with another company that did the same aircraft services and arranged to transfer there. A week later the supervisor claimed that he was also going to go to the rival company and offered to put in a good word with their hiring manager because we’re friends and he has the connections.it didn’t take me long to figure out that he was simply trying to find out if I’m going. So slimy, he was.

not true, but common. I have been rejected from dozens of jobs after interviewing. But i have also gotten 11+ jobs. You dont need every interview to go well, just 1.

Been there. For me personally I think in retrospect they either were intimidated and/or felt I was telling them things they wanted to hear.

The were practicing to improve their interviewing skills.

I know, it’s annoying. Most likely because they want to limit their risk for lawsuits and claims of unfair hiring practices. So they keep their feedback minimal and vanilla.

@@BenTalksTalent I didn't get the job I applied for but they told me I could be a good fit for a different department/project in June. So kind of a rejection, but they'd just tell me to f- off if they didn't actually want me I suppose. We'll see when i reach out in June!

@@BenTalksTalent it's ok. I thought something was off based on your previous videos on this topic. The recuiters liked me, my former college liked what we did and knew I could do the job, but the VP of Customer service didn't really seem like she was in the conversation and with me. She seemed to be looking at something on her monitor and not me directly. Also she seemed like she was in hurry despite going through the entire conversation and somewhat keeping it pleasant. If she was actually paying attention, I think would have gotten the job.

This exact thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. I couldn't figure out why I felt so uncomfortable until after the interview concluded...once I put my finger on the cause, I was rattled and then extremely angry. Professionalism is a two way street. I told them I was withdrawing myself from consideration. I dodged a bullet.

I get it Mike, it’s super frustrating. You aren’t wrong at all. Recruiters need to do better and hiring managers do as well. It’s a simple courtesy to do right by your applicants. Not hard at all.

One of the guys quickly interviewed me by phone two days ago, and that went well (despite a small hiccup of me not being able to speak out what I wanted to say correctly and flubbing my line). Today I had a digital interview over Teams with him and the team leader of the district. And they both went: what is your motivation to apply here? And even though I directly quoted from and redirected to my motivation letter, they were like "yeah you're kind of skidding around the subject here". And I didn't understand what they wanted me to say exactly.

Bob!!!!!! I see this! Karma can be great for sure. I’ll say this, there are a lot of reasons why great candidates don’t get hired (I’ve made videos on it). Sometimes you don’t see bad signs and it doesn’t work, it doesn’t mean you aren’t a great fit and a great candidate. Sometimes we are all the silver medalist.

@@BenTalksTalent Thanks Ben. While I am still employed, my employer has made a lot of bad decisions of late, thus sales and production has dropped like a rock. Sadly, I am very well versed on getting jobs with employers who don't last past 6 years, before they permanently shut the doors. Call it a gift. lol So back in February, everybody was noticing the orders were slowing way down, as in, 2021, about a billion and a half in sales down to what it is now, we're only at 240 million? So I told my co-workers to get ready for either one of two things. A layoff or a soft layoff. I explained that a soft layoff is simply as follows: reduce your hours, raise the cost of benefits upon renewal, stricter rules for your duties and safety, and more little things that they can write you up for. I then added, there are 1 of 2 things you can do now. Look for other work now, while you have a job or ride it out until the layoff. So the company went with the soft layoff as I expected. Since they are a MLM, announcing a layoff would most likely cause their army of consultants to drop even worse than they already are. We have two shifts, a day and a swing shift. Right now, the day shift employees are below 50% of what they were, on Christmas of 2022. The swing shift had a little more leave, including supervisors. As for me, I am watching videos like yours, to bone up my game, so if and when that time comes, and it will, I'll be ready. :) I'll return to edit this comment, or reply to you, to let you know when that happens. :) My prediction is 6 months, but hey, I'd love to be wrong. :) Thanks again Ben. I appreciate channels like this. I wish we had stuff like this in the 80's and 90's.

One of the interviewers said at the end of a pleasant 45 mins of interviewing, "wow, [Department lead] is going to have a very tough time making this decision" which tells me I'm up against some stiff competition. The position is for a Construction Coordinator

Hi Kun! Thank you for watching! I love your country, was there in December 19th and can’t wait to go back! As far as those tests, it depends which one and how they use it. My company uses PI (predictive index) and it’s really only supposed to serve as an additional datapoint, not pass fail. But, some organizations do treat it like that unfortunately. So it depends. But I will say this, if they use one, they definitely value it and it plays a factor in their decision making.

@@BenTalksTalent I hate those tests ... I always feel like they are trying to make sure you are unquestioning and compliant and if you will be easy to get one over on, rather than actually looking for attributes that would be of benefit in the role.

Hi! This is tough, because up until them not reaching back out, it sounded like things were going great! But, what I see in recruiting is that things change and they change often. I would say it’s likely that one of two things is happening. 1. Something has changed, maybe they are no longer going to fill the role, maybe they are changing the role or they have paused hiring for the moment. 2. They are just taking their sweet role. It’s a bit of a yellow flag to me if they reach out in a week or two after informing you to be honest. Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions!

I wouldn’t read much into saying “you” and “the successful candidate”, that happens. It definitely sounds like mixed signals.

She mentioned that she will give her feedback to the hiring manager and the ultimate decision is taken by them. In this role some customer facing duties are also involved. So some of the questions were related to that She also told me that she was impressed with my attitude to customer's perspective.I am absolutely confused and didn't get a clue if it's a yes or no 😅.So it's gonna be a waiting game..or no hopes? Can you give me your insights?
