I have almost never asked questions in a job interview. Never realized it was important. Now, not only do i know it's important, but i also know what to say. THANK YOU!!!
@@BenTalksTalentI didn’t ask a “tell me about a time…” question, but I did ask the interviewer “what happens when an employee (they call employees “members”) struggles or not meet goals, what would you do to help them?”. Would this count?
@@BenTalksTalentThank you for asking and I’ll gladly share it here for anyone who comes across. I interviewed with 2 people, and when I asked that, 1 interviewer told me that if that happens: first, he’ll demonstrate to the struggling person how to do a certain procedure that they struggle with and let them shadow him right behind, then let the person practice until they get the hang of it. If not, they’ll have regular meeting to assess whether the job is right for them if no improvement is shown. That sounded reasonable to me, but I feel that it can be bit vague with the improvement or meeting goals part. What is your opinion on this?
20:34 Ooh! I like that question! I am going to start asking that question at my upcoming interviews: “Do you feel that opportunities for growth snd advancement are allocated fairly?” That way I can test whether it is likely to be a hostile work environment - which I am in now and currently trying to get out of… The micro-management - and the stunting of my professional development… Also, the let’s look at your calendar and take your meetings and training opportunities off it - because you are complaining about your workload - your work comes first, do if you can’t meet your deadlines - you can’t log onto the trainings (for which I would just put them on in the background and listen, btw).
This video is more than two years old, but it is absolute GOLD. So many great questions I'll be asking at my interview tomorrow. And some I thought of myself, but that were inspired by some of the questions in the video. Awesome work, Ben!
This is gold. I wanna ask them all, but usually the initial interview is like 30-40 minutes with only the last 10 minutes given to the candidate to ask questions. I guess I'll have to prioritize some over others and save the others for a 2nd interview, or just pick the most important ones. Dammit, I wanna counter interview them!
So I took your advice and I asked the question of how is the companies culture! I was so impressed by the General Managers response - it went from a very quick "I've never been asked that before, that's a great question to ask. Here how it is here...." without stumble without effort! Honestly, I came from a pretty toxic environment so it was so good to hear how there's was! This particular interview had been moved 3 times due to him coming down with Covid and the internal recruiter not being on top of things - but went extremely well. So I had a challenge right of the start of the interview! It was a Teams interview (all good) however he was driving, so I had to shift how I had planned to respond to the usual questions (I had samples as these are technical ICT roles). I've watched quite a few of your advisory videos now and put some of it into place in this interview. I haven't checked for your phone interview tips - but they sure would've been handy yesterday :) What's the outcome you are probably wondering? Well, we are progressing towards hire! :)
Ah man! So great Ross! I hope you find your way into a better environment, it makes all the difference! It sounds like it went really well! I am glad you found the content helpful! Let me know what happens!
Thanks Ben for significant information, I am going to have an interview for a sale representative role and both cultural and moral will be asked so what a certain answer should I answer, need your suggestions, thanks again
I'm preparing for an HR Business Partner interview next week and this video is so incredibly helpful! I've written all these down and will definitely be using them going forward. Thank you!
I’ve asked some of these questions, specifically the ones geared towards about their opinions. Man it really wakes them up with that curve ball and quickly builds rapport. Thank you so much for making this video, so far these questions have absolutely helped me in my previous interviews !
Great questions, thank you! What about interviewing beyond the initial HR and hiring manager interview. When you're on to the 3rd and 4th interview, and now it's with the VP or your "would be" boss's boss? Should the questions be any different?
Your video is giving me great signs of the company I am interviewing with because they have already answered a number of these with no prompting from me which is honestly refreshing.
3:55 - "How urgent are you looking to fill this role?" -- it may be the right answer, but I see it as, "we're not really trying to hurry to fill the role". Inside myself, I role my eyes because I need a job now and want you to hurry up and hire me if I want the job.
@@BenTalksTalent I'd say, the best answer for the company would be "asap" or something along those lines to assure the candidate that "we want to hurry up the process like you do!", even if that's not true.
Thank you Ben for all your awesome videos! Even though I doubt we will ever meet each other physically, it's great to know you're here in the Milwaukee area!
I appreciate that Michael! Milwaukee is a pretty awesome city! And I have no plans on stopping the videos. I have about three months of content already planned out. If you ever have any topics you would like me cover, let me know!
Now that I think of it, Ben, have you had the idea of doing differwnt types of interviews? Especially virtual? Once I get my resume sent at our county publoc school, they use "Smart Hire" to comduct prerecorded interview responses. It has its pros and coms. Not sure if youve done panel interviews.
Hi so I had an interview with a local government job. Ben I used some of your questions. They are great questions by the way. When I was asking the hiring manager questions I was getting a lot of I don’t know, next question please, and using a lot of cliché answers. How would you react? Do any other people have similar stories? Thanks leave a comment.
Preparing for a Program Implementation Officer position. I have always sucked at interviews. 😭 With one day to go, am going through all your videos. Wish me some luck
The first couple of questions are really good. Ie how long has this role been open and why. I hate wasting time on companies that are too picky and not in a hurry.
This is some amazing advice! Priceless! By any chance do you have a video on how to be an effective interviewer if you are asked to sit on an interview panel?
last week i was in my last interwiev in a shop when they asked me first time i did not ask notching about schedules, vacations, salary instead i asked the person that asked what is the thing you most like about working for these company later i asked what do you like less or what woud make the company even better i sayd fast the second part of even better to not sound cocky is that great the women responded me with working with diferent people and no day beeing the same on the other side she sayd the ac shoud be better lol.
Great video Ben,How would we place this questions in best way if there are 10 members in a panel,ie our future teammates, hiring manager etc? Please advise
Hi Ben. I have interview tomorrow for Operating Theatre Assistant (switching from Food science-lab assistant). The role is 6 month Fixed Term. What question should I ask regards fixed term contract. Thanks :)
Hey Ben! I'm a fresh university graduate and so far I haven't had any SERIOUS job interviews! I'm so grateful that I reached out YOUR channel and I've already learned a bing bunch of relevant stuff about real interviewing in big companies! One thing I would like to ask you regarding THIS video is: what if recruiter DOES NOT ask me if I have any questions. Should I take an initiative and ask a permission to go forward with my questions or I'd rather skip them? Thanks a TON in advance, wish you the best with your videos!
Absolutely loving this content, incredibly helpful in getting me prepared for my Apple store Specialist interview on Thursday. I did have a question though, would it be rude or ill advised ask how many positions the company is hiring for. I’ve worked out they are interviewing over 75 people, and I would like to know if I only have one shot to be successful or if they are filling multiple positions.
I don’t think it’s rude actually. I think it’s fine. I just don’t know what you stand to benefit from it you know. If good luck Keiran! Let me know how it goes!
@@BenTalksTalent I'll definitely let you know how it goes! The question I wanted to ask is more for my peace of mind to know what my odds are, i agree it's not gonna provide much benefit in terms of actually getting hired :)
@@BenTalksTalent Just got off my first interview and I happy to say I am being moved forward to the next round!! Couldn't have done it without your help, thank you
What if they say when you ask why the role is open "I don't have any information as to why they left" does it sound like they resigned or were fired or is that a generic answer to protect from liability?
Hey Ben! I just got an appointment for 'Cultural Fit Assessment' online meeting in a few days but only with one person (Head of People position). Should I ask all these questions on this meeting or normally there will be next real interview with boss and hiring manager and I should keep the questions for those time??? Thank in advance of the answer.
@@BenTalksTalent Thank you sir! One more question, all these question should be ask at the end of the interview before closeout or in between? and does asking lots of questions good? or only keep it moderate?
@@rayfon4667 they should ask you if you have any questions for them, that’s when you ask. And you want to ask some questions but not too many. Which is why I recommend 5-7 an interview.
As a minority, ask the boss a behavioral question and youre gonna find out some shyt real fast. Id LOVE to see the wht person or douchy NDN who would respond well to a blk person asking them that.
@@BenTalksTalent What's the average, how many questions to ask on a first phone call with a recruiter of a company? it's a 30 min call. Your videos are so helpful!!! thank you!
Honestly I’m my opinion I’d say 3-5 should be fine depending on the situation, you don’t wanna ask too many questions but of course not too little either
@@BenTalksTalent I’ll interview for a intern position. Should I ask about their products? The description about their product is pretty vague for me and I’m not sure if I should dig into that instead of working/role/culture related questions.
@@uyentran8378 as long as you come off as informed. Asking about products or services without some research can make it look as if you didn’t prepare enough. You know what I mean?
