Sikkim, a beautiful state in the Northeast of India has an interesting history. From a Himalayan monarchy to a democracy, taking a reverse mode by becoming a state of the Indian union from an independent country, Sikkim has a lot to tell. The last country to join India, which made India rebuild its political map in 1975. The story of Chogyals, Indian politicians, military and foremost, R&AW officers and thousands of Sikkimese is not just a simple story rather a complex and intriguing tale. 16th May 1975 marks the beginning of Sikkim as an Indian state. All it took at the end was a referendum which made Sikkim the 22nd state of India, but there is so much behind it.

Sikkim's history includes the following events: Indigenous inhabitants The Lepchas were the first people to inhabit Sikkim, and ruled the land until 1641. Buddhist kingdom In 1642, three great lamas established a Buddhist kingdom under the Chogyal of the Namgyal dynasty. British rule In the late 19th century, Sikkim became a British protectorate after signing a convention with China. The British planted tea gardens in Darjeeling, which had previously belonged to Sikkim. Independence Sikkim regained independence in 1918. Indian independence In 1947, India took over Sikkim's protectorate and gained responsibility for its foreign policy and national army. Political movement The Sikkim State Congress (SSC) was formed, and a civil disobedience movement was launched to demand responsible government. Annexation In 1975, India overthrew the 12th Chogyal and annexed Sikkim, making it India's 22nd state.

Pradhans are not Tribal. They are the people who built Nepal's urban civilization with great cities and towns in Kathmandu valley and all over Nepal. Almost all other ethnic communities of Nepal lived rural lifestyle while Pradhans/Newars lived in congested fortified towns with great ancient and medieval architecture and infrastructure.

@@khom3940 well tbh Gorkha was also an expansionist state like British. So i don't think we can can say we fought only to protect our sovereignty. Also many Nepalis of Sikkim(today) were once subjects of Gorkha rajya, but later when Nepal lost Sikkim those people also became subjects of Sikkim, but Gorkha identity is still dear to them, and rightly so. Although we are in different countries today, our ancestors were one once and they deserve their ancestors indentity just like us. And btw when i said Nepalis helped India annex Sikkim i did not mean it as a insult. If Sikkimese people are happy to be in India today, then whatever was done then was a great move.

Limbus are Nepalese too. Also going on using Nepalese all the time creates divide in those areas where already larger Indian political parties play proxy wars. The only history that probably matters is post colonial history and after independent India. If you keep bringing chronology from different centuries, then it literally becomes like as Isreal and Palestine issue. No one wants that.

Your information about Sikkimese Nepalis is incorrect and highly condemnable. You need to research more before you upload a video as a "Researcher". Sikkim was inhabited since 12000BC. Please take the pain to research who lived in Sikkim before 1642. Likewise, do refer to the Encyclopedia Britannica which mentions that Mangar Troops witnessed the Coronation of the first Chogyal in 1642. Did these troops belong to any of the 3 communities that as per your claim are the original inhabitants? Of course not!!!

In 1642 Nepal was limited within kathmandu valley also called Nepal mandal. If there were magar community already living in Sikkim then they were not yet Nepali. west of Nepal mandal was baisi and chaubisi rajya all independent and east of Nepal mandal was wallo, majh and pallo kirat bordered with Sikkim.
