the biggest thing people need to realize is that martial arts and fighting for survival are two different things, you can be a really accomplished martial artist, but if you never sparred with a person who's not "feeding" you the technique, you'll never be able to apply that to real life. Real sparring with uncooperative partners is what you need, if you want to attempt to recreate even a sliver of realism.

MMA fighters need more strength to takedown the opponents, while silat provides a solution to takedown opponents with little strength that can be done by everyone.

To me silat is same as Mma,, in silat after you finish learning from this guru, you can fine another guru or different martial art like muay thai,different in another martial art who need to fokus on one style of martial art only. That why silat master know so many styles of silat and different martial art.

Good to see cross training. Next, need to pressure test the techniques in different intensity levels of sparring. That leg scissor take down is quite dangerous. It is banned in judo and BJJ competitions, typically.

I was surprised with many silat practicioner gets triggered here. If they can just silent and stop bragging, they can start thinking how to deal with this kind of takedown. Silat start with sparring, then learning, not start with sparring, then bragging. When they start bragging they stop learning. When they stop learning they get stupid. Stop with mentality "i was better than other" thing, it was not a soul of silat martial art, and never be.

No wonder a silat grandmaster many years ago complaint about how Malay kids nowadays lack flexibility/agility due to modern culture and lifestyle, and how in the olden days children were shaped for silat since they were 3 years old. Silat requires maximum agility and flexibility.

IMHO, Steve needs to improve his falling technic (silat: jatuhan). The position of the arm falls first, and it can injure his shoulder in a real scenario.

That scissor take down, i wouldnt want to be on the recieving end. If he meant it. Thats your knee cap, gone, a possible broken lower leg ankle thats even before he rolls you over. Although i was expecting him to also reach, grab the head clasping both hands underneath the chin, and pull back or is that to violent?

the technique at the end is sweet, I'd love to see what the follow up move is if the opponent steps back out. You don't want to be there kneeling while the opponent counters with a kick to your face. Very interesting overall!

I’ve been looking for a reputable Silat sensei teacher trainer, (Trying to be politically correct) I am a 3.5yr US Army Infantry, recon scout, “scout” Sniper team, Afghanistan veteran. I was a part of the units that dropped the MOAB in nangahar valley province. Over the years I have trained some karate and boxing in my earlier years, A little krav maga, Mma, Muy Thai, jiujitsu Various eastern techniques etc However I am so rusty as I’ve had injuries and life events that I’ve had to come to get to this point lol I’ve always been fascinated to learn solar, combat applications of Silat And despite what other critics or martial artists may say I truly believe the best martial art is the the martial art that masters all martial arts while the martial artist conquers his/her ego and self. To be selfless, and respectful, Also down to earth and loving/ caring A warrior, a protector One who shows the heart to not quit. Sorry for the long message. In short I love the videos that I’ve seen from you and I would humbled some how if a veteran like me could me a student and who knows maybe expand the old way of thinking And combine every martial art together the possibilities are only as limited as our consciousness limits us or plainly how we limit ourselves. Correct way in 1.03 is grab his leg and attack groin 1.47 after take down kick his head 1.54 after take elbow his chest 2.07 after take down punch his face ah got tired watching this martial art video silat is about improvisation and silat also about violence to take knock out or killing your enemy because in real fight the term one on one never exist so you need to finish your opponent in swift attack to move to other opponent
