Ryukishi07 is a very good horror author. They are the ones that made the story for "When the cicadas cry" and "When the Seagulls cry". It's a horror show where everything seems relatively normal at first, but slowly spins out horribly out of control into terrifying story and circumstances. So we can expect a lot of 'Silent Hill f' story wise at least. The trailer sure was disgusting at the end, but also serene. Will be the first Silent Hill story set in a japanese setting too.

Silent Hill 2 is like a spin off, but it is also what many consider to be the best (myself included). The protagonist James Sunderland is looking for his wife Mary (who died 3 years ago) in Silent Hill after recieving a letter from her telling him to go to their "special place".
I think you mean a remake not a spin off. Spin off is a whole different Side game with a new story etc but doesn't follow what the mainline games stories etc

Well, the series was intended to be more disconnected with each entry dealing with different issues and topics. But Japanese players disliked 2 so they changed course with 3 and made it a sequel to 1 during development. It wasn't intended to be a spin off so much as the series just overcorrected back to basics.
It's a mainline game. It just changed how the town works but there still things that mention a cult or something but it's not the main point of the story. 3 is a little more like 1 but with the Silent Hill rules of SH2
i am so glad that you guys reacted to this! silent hill as a series was one of the best horror series of all time, since they took an entirely different approach to psychological horror and did what no one had one. i would recommend that you guys, react to, at the very least, silent hill 2's cutscenes since it's not related to the rest of the series and shows an isolated story, but still just as good if not the best. you guys will definitely love it EDIT: after the game you could also consider watching the lore of the series, as what makes this series so special is the fact that the town itself is a sort of living being that "plays" with the minds of the people who are in it (people that the town attracts, or those that simply stumble upon it due to happenstance)
Would honestly be better if they played the remake once it comes out. Looks like they're going for a 1:1 from the original. If it's anything like the RE 2 and 3 remakes, it'll probably be 'the original' with some added stuff, which I can see going quite well. Just look at how well the RE REmakes did.
@Dean Siroit I've heard 3 was good if you wanted certain things out of it, but people looking for a 1:1 remake were GREATLY disappointed. I was too used to the old tank controls to really try 2 and 3. Might pick up 4 when its remake is done. Provided, of course, that it's any good. Was the only RE in the early 00s I could play without the tank controls. We won't talk about 5 (which wasn't the RE experience, per se) or 6 (which I feel flat sucked).
Silent hill 2 is a masterpiece so I am stoked for the remake. And while I am interested in f the one I'm most curious and a bit excited for is townfall. I don't know why but just the ambiguity of what the voice over was talking about makes me want to know more about the setting and character being referred to. Either way I'm happy we are getting a lot of silent hill content!

Silent Hill 2 has a lot more affection from fans for having a different story, for being more about depression, psychology, and for being the game that introduced the Pyramid Head, who literally works as a moral executioner and a manifestation of James' head too, like all the monsters in the city too. It's a horror masterpiece.

hope you guys keep reacting to silent hill content. the first 4 games are masterpieces. the atmosphere, the story, the soundtrack... everything is so amazing. the first movie is amazing aswell. also edit: you should definitely play the game before watching the movie. the movie is only loosely based on the game, a lot of stuff is different. and it will most likely spoil some interesting parts in the game imo. but yeah you should definitely play the game/s first.
Highly recommend checking out the OG games from back then. Especially Silent Hill one and two. To get a familiarity with the roots of where this all started and why fans from all over have gained such a passion for the franchise. Also definitely recommend checking out the first Silent Hill movie.
Obv i dare not spoil the mystery of the setting but what I love about Silent Hill is that its almost like the setting itself is the killer and I love it. Has that feeling of a living being always watching and playing with a toy. Id take being trapped in Crystal Lake, Elm Street or Raccoon City before taking a night in Silent Hill. And honestly OG SH2 is way worth experiencing before the remake and movie imo.

I started with silent hill 2 I loved it! I was scared and had so many emotions upon completion of the game. The monsters and stories changed depending on the character and the city changes for that, I love it. Silent hill 3 had rorschach like monsters and omg 🖤🖤🖤 Silent hill the room was creepy too
My first experience with Silent Hill was the Silent Hill 1 Demo disc, trust me I had absolutely no idea what it was and I was 7 years old so I played it on my PS2 and when I got to the alley where the children comes out to play, as soon as the footsteps could be heard from them, I paused the game, turned off the tv and ran into the kitchen lmao. Good memories.
I was looking for reaction videos of the new Silent Hill trailers, then I found your video of reacting to the game trailers, and now its come full circle and you've reacted to the new trailers. How funny is that? I enjoyed seeing your reactions, and you're about on the same boat as the fans because we don't know much about the games other than what the trailers showed and what game leaks have rumoured about. As for whether you should play the games first or to watch the movie, I think either choice is fine. I was introduced to Silent Hill through the movie, it was so scary and different at the time, and it showed a whole bunch of monsters from the other games so I really liked reading more about them. I think the movie is a good introduction to the world, even if it does deviate from the story of the first game. Other people will say you should play the game first but they're difficult (and terrifying) to go through. If anything maybe just the first game to see what started it all, then if you want to continue the rest of the first four games.
In your Silent Hill Intros video I had recommend a documentary about Silent Hill 2 to you guys, given that you both liked psychological horror. What is more, the fact that the story is both about how far one would go for their true love (and you guys are married so that is a question that should hit close to home somewhat!) - but also about what Bethany picked up on very early on, the uncertainty if the character(s around you) is/are fully sane, if you can trust the world and things that are happening in it/around you - is why I think SH2 will be a very fitting game for both of you and very enjoyable. It's a dark, thrilling emotional rollercoaster that has you constantly wondering about everything. What to trust, who to trust, what is real, what isn't... It keeps you thinking the entire way through, right up until the final quarter of the game when everything starts falling into place and making sense. A psychological horror experience like this, for me personally, is already quite intriguing, but I think for a married couple such as yourselves, specifically, would be even more immersive and interesting. My current dilemma is that I am not sure if you guys should wait until the Remake of Silent Hill 2 and play it yourselves, or if you should still watch/react to the documentary about the original Silent Hill 2 which I linked in your Silent Hill Intros video reaction. I guess it is more the question of whether you two are patient enough to wait until the release of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which does not have a release date at the moment, or if you instead would want to watch the documentary about the original Silent Hill 2 (and I have to mention yet again, this documentary is superbly done), to know the full story and lore of the universe, so you can perhaps enjoy the Silent Hill 2 Remake even more because you already have the context of the original work. That way you can also see how/if the remake stayed true to the original. It is a tough decision but one I will have to leave in your hands, I'd say that you should just do whatever works best for you, and also what seems the most sensible. My recommendation for experiencing Silent Hill would be to get an emulator set up and get Silent Hill 1 (PS1/PSX) running on it. Play through it. The controls are dated, but if you can get used to them, you will have a blast. Take it slow, soak in the environments, look around, read things, etc. then play SH2, which you can get on PC much easier. Avoid the “HD Collection” if you can. Then play SH3. Then stop there, and watch the first movie. Then pause, reflect on it a bit. You may enjoy it, you may not. Then pop some popcorn and get some booze and throw on Silent Hill Revelations (the second movie) and prepare for a train wreck.
The last batch of JoJo's bizarre adventure part 6 comes out on December 1st, you should watch the openings, or the one second from every episode video!!

Those flowers that were growing through a body in silent hill f are called spider lilies and they only grow through a dead body. They can't grow anywhere else. It's a flower in Japan. You can see it in anime or games(ghost of Tsukushima has them) or Japanese movies sometimes. There is another one that grows in the same way but that one stinks and looks like a shit on a stick.
I assume most people watch horror movies to get a jolt, a high if you will, out of being scared. But I feel like for me, it's different. I gravitate towards most of the things in these sorts of works that upset/disturb others. You might even say I crave them.
And also that red flower grows all over Japan especially near cemeteries it represents If I'm correct bc I looked into it it's supposed to suppress evil spirits
Seeing that the same director and producer are returning for the third movie gives me hype. I hated the second one but the first was so good. As someone who considers a vast majority of game adaptations absolute failures because of the lack of respect to the source material, the first movie was a great step forward and hearing the way they talk about approaching this new movie gives me hope.

I personally don't think it matters whether you play the games first or watch the movie first. The only real thing that'll get ruined is your first impression of Pyramid Head, he first appears in the second game and it's a real spooky introduction.
Silent Hill 2 is 21 years in the making. I've been waiting for a remake to that particular game since they started remaking the Resident evils. And I totally agree with you on silent hill f. It's really giving off Resident Evil vibes as well. I'm not completely sure but I believe it may be a mobile game. And Silent Hill Ascension might be a dead by daylight type game considering the developer behavior is involved. In terms of playing the first game or watching the movie first, it really doesn't matter the movie has a few extra things but it stays pretty true to the game.
Konami has always had a history of seeing if Capcom's ideas work, then doing a twist on that idea, but in the same vein. Not surprised they waited for RE 2 and 3 REmake to come out to do something like it. Ascension is either just having BHVR do the art and sound design, with team Konami keeping a hand on the wheel, or it'll be a mesh of that RE game that didn't do too well that was essentially the same 4v1 Assymetric thing, much like DBD. I think it'd be odd for BHVR to produce a direct competitor to their own game, though. I'd be more inclined to say that they want to use some of the sound design, art, maybe control mechanics from BHVR, but have their own people working on the story elements for a campaign-driven game. Konami has done this kind of 'reveal 3-4 games at once' thing before. In one E3, I think they revealed Origins, Shattered Memories and Homecoming, even if they didn't all get to drop at once. Can hardly wait to see how this goes. I've been jones-ing for some Silent Hill since Hills was cancelled.

In my opinion, watching the movies after the games isn't so advised, because Silent Hill 1 (the movie) is basically like a combination of SH1 and SH2 (the game). And SH2 (the movie) is basically SH3 (the game), to understand the movies better and to feel the "nostalgic" part of it comes from playing these 3 games: SH1, 2 and 3. You can skip SH1 if you want, it's really old (1999) and it was on PS1, it's all up to you guys. Silent Hill franchise is amazing, the games and the movies are top notch in my opinion.
Welcome back, to Silent Hill. All these Silent Hill game will be a new take of the game, Townhall will take familiar road of Silent Hill game. Ascension is still a surprise move. F though will be the first Silent Hill game that will take on actual Japanese Myths style, those flowers are usually representation for Hell, as when you enter Japanese's Hell you'll see those flower and the water indicating that you are traveling to Hell. Return to Silent Hill will be a movie that's based in Silent Hill 2 game, but like they said there's gonna be a lot of twist. James Sunderland return as Silent Hill 2 now getting a complete remake! Movie and Game? The game is WAY better for story, as the movie is somewhat of it own spin-off move. Not saying that it's bad but it's something else, don't watch the sequel though as it kinda...icky.
i remember as a child that i was watching my dad sometimes playing the game silent hill and he always tried to kick me out of the room because that wasn't for kids. But someday i managed to watch him play and it scared me so much, that i had nightmares about it. It already affected me as a little child psychologicly. So now im already an adult and im kinda scared to start playing it by myself and face the demons i had when i was younger
i think with the sh 2 remake trailer at least considering new fans, that they might have revealed way too much. i understand its a big reveal for the fans but a lot of the impact will be gnoe for the newer people considering what they have shown. imagine u were one of the players to play it at launch back in the early 2000's. silent hill 2 never initially revealed anything about pyramid head or james's plight.
The first Silent Hill movie wasn't the worst, but it wasn't the best either. It was an ok move, probably better if you aren't familiar with the games. If nothing else it absolutely nailed the aesthetics though. The first movie kinda sorta-ish follows the plot of the first game, though liberties were definitely taken. Silent Hill 2 is it's own separate beasty from 1, 3 (direct sequel to 1) and 4. The Silent Hills after 4 are kind of locked in the basement and wished out of existence. Silent Hill PT is forever mourned. If you do want to play one of the OG games and can get past the kind of janky old school mechanics to do so I would recommend the OG Silent Hill 2 with the orignal voices. The one released on PS2 and not the HD collection released for X Box.
There's a lot of skepticism over whether Bloober Team is the right staff for Silent HIll 2 remake, especially since Konami itself has proven to poorly handle the IPs that put it on the map in the past, and may not necessarily be trusted to know what staff is most approrpriate to entrust their games to. Bloober team itself has some consternation for having a prior few games that might pull off the visuals, but not necessarily have the writing chops or directorial nuance to update SH2 properly. Meanwhile, Silent Hill f has gotten a fair bit of buzz. Ryukishi07 is known among Japanese game fans for writing the stories for the "When They Cry" visual novels, which tend to be very complex horror-mystery stories. Their first game, "When the Cicadas Cry", also takes place in a remote Japanese village, so the location revealed in the trailer is basically Ryukishi07's old stomping grounds. At the very least, their writing resume is of a caliber higher than that of Bloober Team's.
I recomend experiencing the games before the movies, since the latter has a story thats is a bit different from the games, and Silent Hill is ALL about story and atmosphere.
I honestly hope the remake does well so the other main games get remakes. 1 is my favorite, while 4 felt like a lot of missed potential. I know it's unlikely but I'd love for the series to get another shot.
That's the purpose of the trailers. Your not supposed to understand. Silent Hill at it's core has always been a psychological horror/mystery type of franchise. It's about solving the story and putting the pieces together. And the absolute mind blasts that'll happen along the way. The games especially go far and beyond the movies because they also have a bunch of endings to each game. So you can play the games 3-5 times and get different endings by doing different things. Some funny, some tragic.
I would say play the games if you have the time, so you can get all the callbacks in the silent hill movie, but it's not needed. If y'all just wanted to you can start the movie then a game. But I know many snobies hate movies because they are game "loyalist", I just enjoyed both. And thanks to y'all I now know that more SH is coming out and that there are books!?
If you are gonna start with any silent Hill I think 2 is not a bad place, the story is somewhat standalone since it's focused on the main character's story and not so much on the cult lore, which is where 1 and 3 focus. Also as a side note, not as a starting recommendation, Silent Hill 4 tends to not be mentioned much but it's an interesting part of the series. The whole game takes place in a single room that is somewhere far away from Silent Hill, however the main character is trapped and the room itself starts producing holes in the walls that lead him to nightmare worlds. As the story progresses, it's revealed that these are created by someone's twisted doings related to that room and that Silent Hill's energy is so out of the charts that it's starting to affect places that are not even the town, essentially making it so Silent Hill comes to you instead of you coming to it.
The original Silent Hill movie was honestly one of the best 'video game movies' made. It was almost a one-for-one adaptation with a little bit of artistic license, which is forgiveable, as long as it's tastefully done. The new games look interesting (about as interesting as a non-revealing trailer can be), but the remake of 2 looks like it'll be good. This might very well be the run that Konami needs to get back in and do something phenomenal. If they plan to pull a Resident Evil and remake all the originals (At least 1, 2 and 3.), I'll be throwing money at them for a few years, so long as the games are good. Fun point! BHVR are the Dead by Daylight devs. It seems Ascension is the collaboration Konami wanted from them, since DBD brought Silent Hill fans hope that maybe Konami would continue after cancelling Silent Hills. Here's hoping BHVR listens to the fans this time. No doubt, Mr. Javelin-looking-pokey-stick-weapon-guy will likely be a new Killer in DBD once the game comes out, seeing as the Silent Hill update did so well on DBD.
The 2006 movie is based off the first Silent Hill game and is pretty well done. Really you could watch the movie or play the game first without any real issue. The sequel movie, Silent Hill: Revelation (2012), was "based" of the 3rd game and was horrible. It basically took images and characters from SH3 and twisted it into an unoriginal horror movie that kinda missed the point of the game (being the fears of a teenage girl like possible abduction, sexual assault, and pregnancy). It makes it painful to watch if you know the original game's story since it was so badly done. It's honestly really ballsy to make a movie based on Silent Hill 2 since not only is it regularly held up as one of the best horror games of all time it also is a very personal story about punishment and guilt. It also is the "only" Silent Hill game where there were multiple people trapped in the town at the same time for the same reason. There being 3 main characters that are there as punishment. This means that there are three stories happening at the same time, though you only see the entirety of James's. That's alot to try to get across in a movie. And that's not including two other characters who are arguably innocent that are also interwoven into the stories as well. I'm cautiously optimistic about Return to Silent Hill partially due to the interviews but also because they showed all 5 of the main characters from the game, ether in concept art or video game footage. It means they hopefully won't be cutting a lot of story. It'll be hard to pull it off but it looks like they're doing everything right at this moment.
Im surprised that konami is finally bringing back silent hill. I woulda loved a silent hill 1 remake/remaster especially since sh2 is not my favorite at all, but hey its finally more silent hill after such a long time of pure starvation so bring it on. I remember as a little kid staying up late playing silent hill 1 with my dad on the original playstation. This presentation made me tear up abit 🥰
Townfall and f shows promise, but the SH2 Remake is a big fat *NO* for me. Two words: Bloober Team. If you need some context, the review of The Medium by MertKayKay covers it nicely. The Medium has an evil demon; the Maw, born from the trauma of an abused little girl, which you first meet crying and screaming at people not to look at it. There's no option to help her through the trauma; it cuts to black as a gunshot rings out. Meanwhile they try to make the abuser seem more sympathetic by saying he had a terrible, terrible childhood, resulting in the creation of his own, albeit weaker demon. Which is, fine, trauma = demon, but no option to HELP? Therapy? The child abuser has a weaker demon is supposed to be more sympathetic? If its weaker, that means he just **caved**. Sorry if I seem angry about this, this is a sensitive topic for me. Even though I was easily scared as a kid, I still grew up enjoying Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Eternal Requiem, that sort of stuff.
I'd say you guys should watch the first movie as it tells the basic plotline from the 1st game, but with the Mother instead of the Father looking for her daughter in Silent Hill. Avoid Silent Hill Revelations ( The 2nd Movie ) Because frankly, not only is it a really bad movie, its a bad retelling of the 3rd Game's story. I'd say to watch the first Movie first, then maybe watch all the cutscenes of 2 and 3, that should give you just about everything you need from the series.
The first silent hill movie is worth a watch for anyone interested in the franchise. The older games are all classics, but its hard to get the full experience these days due to a mix of bad rereleases and dated controls. So the movie works as an alternate “hollywoodified” take on the same themes. The second movie is garbage though. Silent Hill is empathetic to mental illness, while the movie and Bloober, the studio behind the remake of Silent Hill II, seems to think your trauma makes you a monster. So big fans are worried about how that remake is going to go.
I don't think Bloober thinks mental illness makes you a monster. I just think they had a bad approach to story telling and liked to write themselves in a corner by being unable to sufficiently tackle their own difficult subjects.

I think both of the previous moves were ok, but kinda lack the intesity of the horror of the game. Another movie though that gave me silent hill vibes is "curse of the sleeping beauty", not a lot of people know about that movie and the ending was a bit controversial , but i liked it for the fact that it had way less horror stereotypes like people not believing about ghost despite having already encountered them, or usually in movies the protagonist woud go towards danger instead of running away from it, etc.
When in reaction to Silent Hill F you see who is story writer and look at each other you like: oh no. This gay. Even if i know that you maybe don't know him at all. He is the creator of the When They Cry visual novel series.
I would highly suggest you play the game before watching the movie. Marinating in the atmosphere and thinking about what the plot means for 15 hours is a hell of a lot better than cramming it all into 90 minutes. It's supposed to be creeping dread, not sprinting dread. The movie will be "Remember This?" and if you don't it'll not be so good. I do not trust Konami to not screw up the remake. Between them screwing up the HD rerelease, and screwing over Kojima, they are incompetent. And even if it's good, it will still be unnecessary, as the original already exists. The movie could be good. The first movie got the ambiance down, but suffered from trying to be every game at the same time. Sticking to just one plot and art design should make a good film. Townfall is being made by some talented horror indie studios. Though they made rather gimmicky horror. F is what I'm looking forward to most as it looks nothing like Silent Hill. It looks like they made a new Siren game but put a different name on it. And I love Siren, it went crazy immediately, then kept going even more mad over time.
I highly recommend not looking into the symbolism of the monsters/demons and history of some of the characters of every silent hill game and movie because of how disturbing and extremely depressing it is to read them
If you ever want play these please do not start with the remake of 2. The original SH2 is a masterpiece. I am confident enough in the remake, but the nuance, artistry and tone of the original is timeless! It's not hard to "get" on PC and mod with the Enhanced Edition. You could probably find some kind of cinematic cut playthrough of the original though if it's too tough to get into.
