Silent Hill it IS and ALWAYS be the best one, for simple reasons: 1 - You are super dad chad that fights demons and creatures to rescue your daughter, i mean c'mon, this guy is super chad, he is not a killer of wives, not a perv, he is a simple man 2 - That sinister siren blaring (based on a real childhood experience of the game writer) 3 - The atmosphere, few games can be one thing and have an unique identity, like RE, Silent Hill Nails every aspect of bewitching the player with the tone and atmosphere of a silent town, in a hill, with some fog, demon dogs, hell pterodactyls and whatever comes... 4 - The music, well, dont even have to speak about it, just listen... 5 - The meaning. Most of the history and elements are symbolical of ocultist, alchemy and such stuff, because the writer is a expert.
@@bradydavis57912 is considered The best because most people dont even know The First, It was other generation of consoles and players. And doesnt have better reasons, It has only reasons, It has a deeper plot, but a Very shallow reason, 1 is much more symbolic on every level, 2 is Just your run of Mill Jung/Freud Anglo modernistic sexual horn justification of existence. I choose SH4 in Second place anyday than SH2. And The woke remake Will spoil It anyway too... No Hope for this one
Literally one of the best games of the PS1 era and still I think in the running for one of the best horror games of all time. I have so many memories of playing this game as a kid. The things that make it such a stand out masterpiece to me are, in no particular order: - The soundtrack. Immensely atmospheric industrial noise which totally contributed to the suspenseful, creepy atmosphere of the game. - The FMV cut scenes. The amount of work that went into those scenes, all created and rendered by one man. The nurse scene towards the end of the game has always stuck with me. Incredible quality animation for its day, especially the capturing of human emotion in the face. - The tank controls combined with a cinematic, shakey camera, often with fixed perspectives - similar to Resident Evil but even better. - The shroud of fog and darkness was to hide the poor draw distance limit of the PS1, but basically formed the entire atmosphere of the game. People to this day still think of or mention Silent Hill on particularly foggy days. They managed to turn a technical restriction into an iconic feature of the game. - The multiple endings that aren't just minor variations on a theme, but have tangible differences which encourages multiple playthroughs. - The melee combat, often forcing you to get up close and personal with enemies that your instinct is to just run away from. - The radio static that indicates the proximity of an enemy to you. It's borderline as iconic as the beeping of the motion detectors in Aliens.
The wild thing is I didn't have to add that, it was originally an anti speeding advert I stumbled upon that was shown in Ireland. It cracked me up so much 🤣🤣
Drove 150KM to visit someone who knew they were going to die. Heavy rain most the way there that I had to crawl through to prevent hydroplaning and an ominous dense fog the rest of the way there. Noticed the road did not look right and was waved to a stop and told the road washed out on the way back. Drove slow an extra hour out of the way through a series of unfamiliar country roads while imagining Pyramid Head scraping his way along.
I love that team silent pulled old gods from the Talmud and elements from Kabbalah. Silent Hill is a feast for people interested in esotericism and the occult.
10:42 That Romper is GONE 😂😂 Been playing SH1 every now and then pretty much since it's release and I'd never seen that kind of glitch happen until now lmao
Awesome video! This is the game! All i heard back in the day was "it's like RE, but scarier." I though "hmm bet," Took embarrassingly long with first fog area, but when i finally got to the school.. ..... ... .. Masterpiece. In a league of it's own.
*Edit* Whoa, I was rather caught off guard at the start of your video with that wreck. Seen the clip before but always ends when you see the car air barreling down hill Game is a doozy for sure, especially if your trying to get the better ending. I'm kind of a moron so playing this game blind and had a old detailed guide for the this game was a life saver...especially for the piano puzzle. 😅
I'm glad I stumbled into the better ending, if it had ended badly I probably wouldn't have had the ah-hah moment with the red liquid I had never seen that speeding clip until I was trying to find a speeding advert and then I got that Irish one...its so dark and it shouldn't have but it cracked me up, why they put a squish noise in I'll never know. Would have been haunting otherwise
I played this a bunch as a teeanger in the late 90s, and it really grabbed as it was so much different than RE2. The hospital, in particular, really stuck with me as i didn't care for being in them. When I played years later as an adult, I found the aged nature of it all, whether it was the graphics, controls, or voice acting added to the uneasiness and felt like experiencing a living nightmare.
I think partly the aged graphics add so much terror/atmosphere as you need to use your imagination to fill in the blanks, to try and make sense of whatever you're facing in that moment You're right SH and RE2 are so different from eachother it's a breath of fresh air
If you liked this game you will probably will love the next 3 games after this one. When you have finished all 4 original games you will understand why we SH fans love this series soo much.
Word to the wise: As of today you can pick up Silent Hill 1 for $6 on ps3 psn right now. You can also pick up Resident Evil 1 (its dualshock directors cut but aside from one music track the game is fine), Resident Evil 2 Original, Resident Evil 3 Nemesis Original, Dino Crisis 1, Dino Crisis 2, Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve 2, Fatal Frame 1, Fatal Frame 2, Fatal Frame III, and Siren. You can have a bonafide Summer of classic survival horror for relatively cheap. All you need other than a ps3 is a ps4 or 5 to add funds to the ps3 store. These games are treasures. Get them while you can.
@@NebulaMortis06 True, but not everyone has the know how. Some people just wanna boot up a console and play. I am down for people preserving these games by any means. Especially if the original publishers aren't.
I don't think they'll ever remake SH1. There is something to be said about skipping over the first game just to remake the sequel everyone knows. Tells me Konami wants money far more than they want to give Silent Hill fans what they want. I'm extra suspicious of Konami in case that wasn't obvious. Japanese laws were passed that greatly reduced their pachinko gambling money so this game and MGS3R are basically their walk of shame pivot back to gaming after putting all their eggs in the wrong basket. There is also reason to believe the Silent Hill 2 remake is just a movie tie in game for the upcoming live action movie based on Silent Hill 2. A movie tie in game from Konami just sounds dreadful. And I didn't even talk about how Blooper Team lacks the subtle storytelling chops to retell a story like Silent Hill 2.
I hope so! I'm a huge metal gear solid fan so I'm hoping they go backwards with that series after #3 launches, whose to say they wouldn't do the same with silent hill 🤞
No, it won't. It will fail miserably. Nobody wants remeke and when people say they have hopes for it they're banned in the any fan community (reddit, discord, Twitter, etc). This shows how much people are against it. Heck I have an entire playlist I've made, with videos how people hate it just for the sake of research. For people SH2 is a holy cow nobody has rights to touch, and trust me they'll burn Bloober to a crisp after the launch on the first few hours. No way it'll be received good with the stance of people rn in the fandom
@@Eric_Nomad_Hixtone Problem is, Konami completely alienated their OG core Silent Hill fanbase more than a decade ago, and the fandom got populated by people that grew up watching the movies and probably haven't played a single game in the series. THAT is the audience Konami is looking to cater to.
...and I have no idea why Konami didn't start by remaking the original first! This game is the embodiment of what Silent Hill is... Where as Silent hill 2 (another masterpiece) is ALL about the main character, and not about what happened to, or is happening into Silent Hill!
I want Konami to make they games like original but idk if writing would work silent hill based survival horror games of all time they should take a page out of Capcom like what they did with resident evil remakes thoses remakes are amazing
Well for me it didnt aged poorly or anything, because the game itself was so different. Not like any games cannot replicate silent hill 1 style I mean the game is creepy and i like it I miss this game
@@SSJdavey I absolutely agree since they don't have the best track record of Impressiving fans this is there Start to do so I say😁😄😁😄 so I say they better get to it😄😄 and they better go all out!!! Fingers crossed though😄
8:58 then watch the video 😂😂😂 but nah u missed out on digimon it’s wierd but I did the tcg but wasn’t too crazy on Pokémon the show. Friggin street sharks n re1 tho 💪🏼😈
