Silent Hill Tier List 

Silent Hill 2 is so.. Beyond words. It deals with real human emotions.. Guilt, fear, Shame, Regret,... Depression, redemption etc.. Things that ppl go through in everyday life.. It's so much more than just a game to me personally.. God Bless Akira Yamaoka! His music is also beyond words lol. Hope im spelling that right.. I remember buying Silent Hill 3..and getting that bonus soundtrack.. It's actually the first SH i ever played.. Had no idea what i was getting into. Loved it..

My List. S Tier: SH2 and SH4 A Tier: SH1 and SH3 B Tier: SH SM C Tier: SH DP D Tier: SH O E Tier: - F Tier: Silent Hill Homecoming. Blargh!

Downpour is actually a lot better than Homecoming imo, but otherwise spot on.

Have to disagree. People will always say SL2 and I will say that it has it's place at the top tier. For me it's SL1 followed closely by SL3. SL1 had a feeling to it that I never experienced in a game before. I remember playing it with my ex-wife watching and we would both jump and be totally freaked out. Sure it hasn't aged well but it is still the game I look at when scaling horror games. I never identified with James from SL2. I understood what he was going through and what was going on. He was on a quest of discovery. Harry was looking for his child. A still living , breathing person. As a father I was in his shoes. Then SL3 came out and when you find Harry's body in the apartment I was totally on board. SL1 will always be the best when it comes to the series in my opinion.

RU-vid recommended me this video 3 days ago. I only followed your RE content so far. Seeing how much you and the comment section loves SH2 convinced me to try it out. I finished it now and I must thank you guys. I can't even describe how much I absolutely loved this game. It even made me tear up at the end, which is pretty damn rare. What a timeless masterpiece. I'm happy I played it now and not when I was younger because I understood story and it hit much harder. I'm going to watch you play through SH1 now and then play SH3 myself. So happy I gave this franchise a chance.

Pretty much agree with everything except I think Homecoming is significantly worse than Downpour.

I only ever played and beat the first Silent Hill, I did play maybe 2 hours into Silent Hill 2. But after watching this I want to go back and play through the first four games, considering how much praise you gave them.

Have you played The Evil Within 2? It very much wants to be a Silent Hill game and it pulls it off in a few places...

Excellent man. And that SH2 ost in the background at the end. And yes, SH2 is so fucking convoluted in the story, and the side stories you hear...you can only feel pain or Angela or pity for James (more like calling James a moron). But it grabs. And it’s a good game. Spot on, Bawk.

I love them all but you're right, some are better than others. As a gamer that started out with the NES, the very infancy of gaming, I can tell you The Silent Hill series is my all time favorite games ever made!!!

Silent Hill 3, easily my favorite horror game, and my 10th favorite game of all time. Silent Hill 2, however, is the greatest horror game ever made. What an experience from start to finish. It's biggest strengths are easily the story and music. Characters, enemies and environments are just right behind them though. Fricking Love 2 and 3 to death!!

Silent Hill 2 on PS2 had its film grain only able to be removed as a new game plus feature as well, surprised to hear you disliked it so much with origins

I think you forgot about book of memories.

I'd put 2 and 4 in S and 3 and 1 in A. I get what people dislike about 4, but... it's almost mythological in the things it gets right, is like no other game around and succeeds at creating a completely haunting world of its own.

To me Origins is the worst next to Downopur. The reason I love SH is the spectacle and imagination behind them, and Origins is just so uninspired and plain. At least Shattered Memories, the Room and Homecoming attempted to do their own thing.

I don't know why everyone hates downpour I loved it. Its third on my list.

SH4 all comes down to Walter Sullivan. He is the main character, as far as I’m concerned, and he’s fascinating and terrifying. His story makes the game wholly worth it. The overall game, I’d give B...the “worst” of Team Silent’s entries, but still a fantastic, unsettling horror experience. The water-tower-prison location is amazing, IMO. With a work as conceptually ambitious as this, I will always give it the benefit of the doubt-you can’t experiment and push boundaries without risking failure here and there. Many times, an ambitious failure is far more interesting than a boring, uninspired “success.”

Dawnpour is far from the worst silent hill. For me it is a B with silent hill 4

Agreed but downpour is better than homecoming put it in C tier isnted of D, I also think SH 3 is S tier but I understand why you would want to leave SH2 alone in S since it's without a doubt the superior SH and it deserves it's own solo tier.

--Spoil SH4-- Hi. I just wanted to point out regarding Silent Hill 4 that the game is designed to make us crazy and surprise us. Indeed, the game plays a lot with our expectations, like with the ringing phone. It drives us crazy all along, and when we answer, the other person on the line. It's the same for the apartment with lots of fake guns. Eileen's big head, the game is meant to drive us crazy, and this madness turns into discomfort. The game plays with our expectations to amplify this madness, like the passage with all the wheelchairs, the sound of nurses is also intentional. It's to play with our expectations. We had before the Twins Victim who are creepy and don't always attack us. The same goes for the Gum Heads; they don't always attack and inflate their chests before attacking to intimidate us. Then we see big creepy creatures making a growling noise. It's to play on our expectations and increase this sense of madness. The sounds made by Team Silent have always been successful, even in the 4th. Listen to the soundtracks; they're great, but on a particular monster, the sound is ridiculous. It's not something poorly done; on the contrary, it's intentional. And the game is like that all along. We have a coin; we can't put it in the vending machine because it needs to be washed. At the beginning of the game, we take a key, and as soon as we move forward, we constantly go back; we have to leave it to pick it up later. Also, we have the key that appears under the bed; we say damn, it was there from the beginning. The game is a genius but very misunderstood, I believe. I acknowledge its flaws. Walter's alterations are not great. Eileen is slow. The part in the subway is not amazing.

Shattered memories was a solid D for me. The enemy sections were frequent enough to bore the fuck out of me. They didn't make them interesting whatsoever so I always ended up just running to the end just to get to the next part of the fucking game. It bored the fuck out of me. But I'm really glad you enjoyed it as much as you did. Just wasn't for me.

Silent hill 2 is the only silent hill I have ever played and I thought it was amazing. But I still think Re remake is the best horror game ever made

Nah. Downpour is underrated. Shattered Memories is easily the worst SH game. There is no tension or fear at all because you KNOW there are no enemies or anything to be scared 90% of the time. The ice world ruined it. Downpour has bad combat (like the entire series) but has an amazing story and the town itself was also enjoyable. There's nothing good about Shattered Memories, in my opinion.

Your playing skills are excellent, one of the best I have seen. However, your understanding of Silent Hill games is... a bit shallow. To say that the story in SH1 is easy to follow? Really? Not really. Especially after the Alchemilla Hospital and in the Nowhere. Noy to mention Lisa Garland, and the entire town of Silent Hill. Is it all a dream? Is it all in Harry's head? Or is the entire town engulfed in Alessa's dream? I have more than 500 hours in SH1 only and there are still things I cannot grasp. Otherwise a good video. Love your speedruns and randomizer runs.

Shattered memories is the worst imo lol. So repetitive with the whole escape the monsters and got not scary pretty fast.

2 and 3 are equal. 1, 2 and 3 are S tier.

I think you didn't really justify your decision with downpour. You seemed like you just believe it's the worst because that's what the fandom believes. I wish you picked to rank either based on your own experience OR what you believe is objectively the best.

Man seems like im the only one who enjoyed downpour. for me its not the best by far, but i still really liked it. imo for me personally homecoming was the worst, although still not horrible. i love silent hill. wish they made some more

I hated the puzzles in Silent Hill 2. The coin puzzle, as well as the puzzle where you're locked in a room with bugs with no direction whatsoever. Otherwise I loved the game. Just disagree with the puzzles being the best. As for the worst Silent Hill game, definitely gonna give that to Shattered Memories, which wasn't hard in any way, was way too short, and I just didn't like the whole running away like a pussy over standing your ground and fighting.

Probably one of the easiest lists for me: S: SH2 - Best horror game of all time. Perfect pacing, dealt with real emotions and everything in the game had a purpose. So relatable to real life. A: SH1 - Really good pacing, good story and iconic areas. A revolutionary game that inspired many future horror titles. B: SH3 - An ok game, had poor pacing and the enemy design was lack lustre. Its two redeeming factors were the puzzles being the best in the series and the graphics D: All the rest - Not worth saying anything about the rest as they came during/after team silents downfall, it really shows in the quality of the titles

I'd put Silent Hill 2 at B. It lacks horror for me to consider it a horror genre, compared to most other entries. It's story is okay, it's enemies are nice, music is great... but god, there's a very appearant lack of either psychological or upfront horror. There's nothing. Absolutely nothing.
