I hope Uboat game gets some of those hull sound effects when going deep. Make us feel the fear of the crew feels when they hear the hull barely holding out the immense pressure like in SH3.
I hope finally someone removes these sounds from SH. They are TOTALLY unrealistic and awful. If boats would have made that kind of noise, no-one would have needed an ASDIC.
You're spoiling us this weekend, Wolf. I do love the irony of when during the first frigate attack, you started to speak a bit excitedly, and the crewman on the aft plane control turned around and shushed the camera. I realize it was just a coincidence, but it was still funny.
Not sick of Silent Hunter III after all these years, but I am utterly sick to death of hearing that audio clip Every. Single. Time. Wolfpack crash dives.
Notice to all submarine commanders: ASDIC cannot see straight down. In fact, ASDIC has quite a hefty minimum range against deep diving submarines; alas, during the war this becomes less and less. Then there is the problem at close ranges when the return is too fast for the operator to distinguish as separate from the impulse sent out. Which means once they can no longer ping you, they lost you. On top of that, depth charges sink not that fast: 3m/s in 1939, 5m/s at end of 1940, 7m/s in 1944. Hedgehogs dealt with a lot of the minimum range troubles by firing 200-250m ahead of the ship and sinking at 7m/s, with impact fuses and with a pattern dense enough to guarantee at least one hit. Deployed in 1942, but rarely used even in the first half of 1943 due to low confidence and other problems. The squid, an improvement of the hedgehog, used timed fuses and has a sink speed of 13m/s, available in 1943, first sinking end of July 1944. 220m / 5m/s = 44s Use that time wisely.
Are you sure the game models the ASDIC limitations? From what I read and from my own experience, it at least does work @15+ knots, what it shouldn't ...
An incredibly cool display of hunter and hunted. Both you, a experienced and competent captain, and the enemy, being almost equally as skilled, made for an amazing game of cat and mouse that uboat warfare was all about. An incredibly entertaining video for sure, thank you!
I was seeing some old videos of yours lately. You have evolved your way of presenting your content in a way where it's your story leading the video and the game feels only like a vehicle for it, this is great and why I love watching your channel. Kudos to you sir
An "Elite" level escort in the engine in GWX will detect you very often unless you are at silent running, you got really unlucky lol. Almost every other time you'd be fine there on your approach but you got a crack frigate escort. Thats extremely rare outside of a task force/hunter killer group. Elite units also have a chance to have the best equipment available to them so if that was a viable destroyer, it may have had the field testing version of hedgehogs to fire as well, really bad news.
Wolfpack: "We'll be wery lucky if it's only one warship" Warship: "You know, chap, It's not that _I_ am alone against you. It's _you_ all alone against me!"
I have a love/hate relationship with the Das Boot clips in the GWX series of mods lol. They add decent immersion, but hearing the identical lengthy audio whenever I do a crash dive or get a torpedo hit gets a little annoying after a few patrols
I mean it's the same in vanilla as well. The issue is IIRC that's everything that you click on that has a voice is hardcoded to only have two versions at most. A normal/alarm version and a silent running version TBF in regards to crash diving you're never gonna do that while silent running.
I mean...Its the only actual German Crash Dive sound worth having or I know of that has such an impact on you. Das Boot was one of the greatest Anti-War movies ever released and the clips, sound design, music and story ARE top notch all aboard. And the Crash is and always will be the most known piece of the movie. Even better when you are actually suprised by Destroyers/Planes yourself and you panic yourself. Then its having the greatest effect. Atleast for me.
I think they picked you up on their radar and not on their hydrophones. When metox picks up signals from warships consider yourself detected but the good thing is that they dont know your exact position.Honestly from 1942 and onwards attacking escorted targets or just getting some km away from them on surface is impossible due to radar.Your counterattack and maneuvers were pretty impressive and i cant wait for the next episode to see if you will finish off that merchant.
TV offering pales in comparison to this 😀. Another intense episode, the SH3 series is definitely a favourite of mine, although the other series Wolfpack is putting out are all of really good quality. 🙂
Love your videos. Even if it is a game it's very realistic with you telling the story. I am always interested in anything related to WWII, my father was in B17 bombers flying 52 missions. Have fun with the subs.
Sea Pressure @ 299 meters is: 2208.38 kiloPascals 22.08 bar 21.8 atmospheres 320.3 pounds per square inch 16,564.21 millimeters of mercury 652.13 inches on mercury just saying
At 299 meters? Roughly, it's 1 atmosphere (surface) + 1 more atmosphere/bar every 10 meters. so it would be more or less 30 to 31 atmospheres or bars of pressure.
Great game. Great narration. Im amazed how good this game look even in not modded version. (Iwish my game look like that but no matter what i do it look worse than orginal xd )
Wolf I regularly check in to see if a new med ep has dropped. Love your SH GWX content and I’ve started playing it myself now. Where can I get a list of all the sub mods you use?
WP, Your vids are fantastic, and these books would help you further in making narrative for them: - "Steel coffins" by German U-boat commander Herbert A. Werner Wolfgang Ott and his "Haie and kleine fische" ("Sharks and little fish"), and Per Hansson's "Hver tende mann mäte do" ("Every tenth man had to die"). Thanks for the vids, all the best.
Let Destroyer chase you and fire rear tube when they are at 300-400 yards behind you. Any Hedgehogs would fall short and Destroyer would not be able to get out of way of a torpedo running on surface.
with the 2 ships and various planes dropping depth charges constantly, I would think you'd be able to run at Dead Slow because they're going to have hell hearing anything no?
An incredible video and glad to see more Silent Hunter footage. I've been tempted to return to SH3 but I'm eagerly awaiting the full release of UBoat. Out of curiosity do you have any mod recommendations for Silent Hunter 4?
@@YOUPIMatin123 Because if you take out the single defender, you can then take out the entire convoy. As seen in the video, just a partial hit on one ship as the frigate did its job to suppress the U-boat.
I enjoy this series and the U-Boat series, but I got to say that Silent Hunter III is my favorite of the two. For some reason I just like the game more than U-Boat.....maybe it's the boat load of mods that you have for Silent Hunter III is why I think it is better.
Never heard of Metox radar detector (FuMB 1, Funkmessbeobachtungsgerät) Wiki has more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metox_radar_detector Q: will we see Leigh Light attacks as well in this campaign?
It's a shame that in this games warships doesn't count as objectives... but as i say sunken destroyers don't launch deep charges and a torpedo worth less than a whole sub...
The hunting ship seems to have more advanced equipment then the others you have encountered. Might want to aaproach convoys submerged from now on. The mediteranean is unforginving to subs.
@@YOUPIMatin123 Anyway, that ship albeit struck, it clearly isn't going down. In the next episode, the pursuit is on. It is damaged, so it cannot go ahead full. He can catch it up.
"Sieh' auf den Tiefenmesser"! Just saying ... . Btw., the problem is not the speed per se, but the fact that under "silent running" the bilge pumps are turned off (there's even a small warning icon on the main screen for that!), so the boat slowly gets heavier. Oh, and obviously, you can't blow out ballast to compensate as well ;-)
