This video presents some samples of siliceous sedimentary rocks (such as diatomite, radiolarite, flint) and explains the conditions of their formation. These rocks are rich in silica of biological origin (= primary rocks formed following the accumulation of siliceous elements of biological origin) or chemical (= secondary rocks formed during diagenesis like flint).
This video has been put online for beginners in geology, in particular in License 1 and 2 at the University, or for high school students in science. It allows you to revise the notions learned during the Petrology practical work.
Video highlights:
- 0:07: Introduction
- 0:55: Primary rocks (layered rocks)
- 4:32: Siliceous accidents (nodules)
