You’re good at this, and obviously you can’t always catch everything. Lighting is crucial, I agree sometimes lighting can make a good coin look bad. I passed on coins before because of that. I would say on a couple of the coins that looked outstanding also had a few carbon spots sorta clustered in one area and it probably hindered it imo. These are the kind of videos all collectors can enjoy. So thank you 🫡
Coin Geek has an interesting and quite salient take on Washington Qs . . . . "Predict the actual result or grade and then come down one full grade, and that is what you will receive."
The 1880-S MS 66 PL Reverse - some of that chatter is called pitting and there's a correlatory group of VAM's which is why people are surprised sometimes - and other times it cane even be from debris/strike through mint error type of a thing....but in at least one of the pockets I see die pitting that is associated with the VAM and wouldn't be considered chatter...it's hard for those VAM's to sticker in above gem grades - 64PL and below there's less issues.
The Columbian and other toners are now getting a harsher pivot from the grading companies but they're not good at all about guidance - which is annoying because I'm sure certain parties are in the know!
I’m convinced JA does not like toning. Coins that previously had stickers aren’t getting stickered after crossing to PCGS. That leads me to believe he’s not consistent.
