It's mostly honda/4 banger stuff. Niche hobby so smaller crowd. I'm not into Hondas at all but I watch cause I like Brent and I like all car content. That's just my hunch though
@@Broncofivepointslow and to piggyback off your comment, most big automotive youtubers are really lifestyle channels whose life happens to focus around cars, where pfi is strictly automotive channel for the most part, even though this is what pfi does day in and day out.
As a D series guy, I would have expected this from a fellow SOHC guy but the fact that a b series did it is funny as hell. Money can’t buy you brains obviously
These are the PFI videos I love and miss. Just a bunch of family hanging out in the shop wrenching, solving problems. While they pointed out the flaws, not once did they totally slam the prior mechanics, but rather provide constructive feedback and commend them for the 'creativity'.
Hey Brent, I met you at Bristol I was the guy covered in tattoos including my face and head, I’m a tattoo artist so that makes it ok. but anyway I came to Bristol specifically to meet you and Steve Morris I remember when Kyle put you on his video first time I’ve ever seen you. Crazy thing is you are the same person today. You have a pretty big following you have tons of awesome friends. But you haven’t changed from the first time I seen you. You are just a genuine guy money, cars, fame, hasn’t gone to your head like most RU-vidrs not you not your kids. I just wanted to tell you that keep up the awesome channel.
Hey i was there also im also tatted head to toe but im not a tattoo artist. But im hawaiian got my first tatau was by tap my ta-moko aint even done lol
I feel like Brent is like the only mechanic that sees the bright side of all jobs and don't just say I'm not working on that. Shows people the real stuff and always figures it out
In the thirty two years of my automotive career as an ASE certified technician never once have I ever seen that kind of work done nor have I ever even come close to considering doing anything remotely close like that. These people who do repairs like this are the reason technicians get a bad name. I seriously hope you guys don’t think all technicians do these kind of repairs. I know you don’t! Anyway great video love the channel keep on working hard guys.
I would be willing to wager that this certain individual has a hair cut resembling a vegetable and descends from the little known island called Puerto Rico
Feel like this was done with intent. She sounds like she trusted the person she bought this from and that person took advantage of that. Probably over heating already and they thought they could get away with a quick fix while making it look legit by putting the only head gasket they had in there. The rtv was just to last the test drive. I thought it was weird when they took the valve cover off and the cylinder head look super clean with no oil.
I bought a Subaru with the same issue. I couldn't tell anyone had the heads off until I got down to the gaskets and saw red silicone. It worked for about 6 months before failing. Had I known it was that bad, I would have done headgaskets immediately after buying it.
Blows my mind someone would do this given how easy it is to track down a factory service manual. And those manuals are like a pictorial bible because of how thorough they are.
Even I know not to do that and I'm not even a mechanic. As shane said, "use your resources and Google it". That's why i watch PFI. Can't wait for the next video.
It is scientifically impossible that that could even work no matter how it was done. The pressure is.going to find its way through the paper. Im sure i could do it to last a few trips for grandma to the grocery store. But it would never last a single rip. But it isnt coming back apart. So would make a boat anchor to last 25 miles. If it even lasted more than one heat and cooling cycle
I brought a s/h engine for my ford falcon and ended up boosting it. It dynoed 320rwhp 540nm on 9psi then saw up to 12psi on the street. When i uograded to a mls and head studs i found the oem head gasket with silicon.. never once had a issue god knows how it lasted 😂
On the next episode of Silicone Wars….lol. Brent been watching you since you were in the other shop years ago. Love the content! Stay the same never change! This video is hilarious!
You can tell that brent not only enjoys doing what he does but its just good damn fun to him.. im the same way i have the most fun tinkering on any make and model..
I've seen A LOT of stupid things in my 30+ years as a mechanic. But I've NEVER seen anything like that!! I mean I've seen drain plugs RTV'ed into oil pans, drain plugs J B Welded into oil and transmission pans, blocks of wood used as mounts and spacers, paint used as sealant, and even plastic milk crates and lumber used as a bumper. But nothing like that head "gasket"!!! WOW WTF!!! 😳🤯
I was working on a customers 1957 Thunderbird with a 312 Y block. Some dolt had done the same thing with strangely enough the same orange RTV on Fel Pro Permatorque gaskets which clearly state on the package USE NO SEALER. The engine was leaking coolant between the block and heads. I had the heads resurfaced, drilled both the block and heads with the additional holes prescribed in a 1960 Ford TSB (they werent called technical service bulletins back then) using a modern head gasket for a template. I saw a 272 in another customers 55 Crown Victoria with the same issue. Apparently , the same dolt rebuilt both, the scary part is that the particular dolt was reported to be an instructor at a tech school in this area.
I think the paper sealed better than the RTV... I think the theory was that the paper compresses to take up any imperfections, the RTV glues and seals it to the head gasket, and the RTV on top uhhh, well it sticks that head on real good so it doesn't lift. Art!
Like 4 guys massaging the epoxy into the head and the block at the sametime one starting on each end rubbing a very thin layer of the epoxy into every pore by finger tip. Then quickly slapping it together and get it torqued down immediately and let it set for min 24 hours
you guys should do a full rebuild for this poor girl. I know the channel will watch and support. oem full rebuild with a turbo kit or a decent all motor build and have the car wrapped with pfi hidden in different locations windshield banner that says PFI big and underneath PFI it says "built different" just what I would do if I were you guys
I feel bad for the woman who owns the car. She was sold a 🍋 built bottom end aswell as finding that gasket issue. There are some real shady people out there.
we have all had this thought for atleast half a second before, but this dude actually did it rofl! and used as much as possible lololol, im suprised he got it running
I tell you I've seen some stuff before in my life I tell and iv seeing some strange things, but this is like seeing a flying saucer or big foot. You cannot net make this up. This must go viral!!!!
I remember watching a project farm video where he tested different kinds of rtv, Burst tests, temp tests, it was really interesting to see how well some held up..... But don't think any of them are going to hold up to this type of use.
I get successfully clickbaited by Scotty about once a year, about him either contracting a terminal illness, losing his house, or his youtube channel getting shut down. And this year it came early he got me good a couple weeks ago 😂
@@GsEmoover It took me a while to figure out how to do it but I blocked him on RU-vid but every time I mention his name for some reason it unblocks him and I see his videos pop up. Just hearing his voices like nails on chalkboard. And his ignorance is mind-numbing..
@@rgreerjr I'll be honest, I don't actually remember, but he's the only one that I'll go the effort of trying to figure it out again every time. (I think last time I had to RU-vid how to do it because they change it all the time )
Was a gm line tech for 30 yrs .... n the words of kid rock ..... I've been around see some things but I never seen this!!! Someone needs a serious lesson in engine building
I had a ford 5.4 come in for exhaust manifold replavcement. When I removed the manifold it has 8 studs which hold it to the head. 5 were broken off in head and a whole tube of ultra gray silly cone.
The craziest thing is I work at Richtunemotorsports in Lakewood, Wa A guy brought in a car for a dyno and he said some shop fully built it And it literally had the same thing, and every seal was backwards 😂😂😂😂
Hey, what’s your thoughts on the old Honda Accord 1989 a20 A1 2.0 engine, the corner of head is leaking oil right where the oil goes through the top to bottom it has new head gaskit. I see a lot of leak of death 💀
I found the same issue on a Subaru, the gaskets looked good but were coated on one side so they failed. All it needed was new gaskets and it was fixed. It was very baffling.
ive never seen orange rtv forsale idk where people get it but any time theres orange rtv its mickey moused lol missed the video hell yeah lets go brother!!!!
