It is so important to learn from our mistakes. Thank you for sharing! If anyone else starts with a yellow fabric and they want a darker or more vibrant green, dying with a blue-green dye will get deeper results. The cyan you get in blue-greens reacts really vibrantly when layered with yellow, giving you a more vibrant green than just adding straight up blue (which can turn out to be a very dark green).

Oh, that's such a beautiful shade of green! Definitely worth the roughly five million kgs of salt 😂 My vote is for the anglaise, because I would love an excuse to get some mules myself.

I've had dreams of dying silk, so this is fascinating! I've seen some indigo dying peeps that use a large tub and an immersion water heater stick for their large projects.

My vote for your project is . . . a pickle-themed 18th c. Anglaise gown! I really enjoyed the whole Discovery of Witches series! The second and third books delve much more into history and alchemy, so it does become more of its own thing rather than grown-up Twilight in a university library. I may be a little biased- Deb Harkness taught at the university where I did my PhD, and although I didn't interact with her often I liked her a lot.

@@AJaneiteSews I too love the book and the 2nd book is AMAZING if you like historical novels. The 2nd book is set in 1590s England, France, and even Prague (Though I assume you know that since I think it was mentioned at the end of the 1st book that they will time travel to that era, but I am not a hundred percent sure. It has been a while since I have read the books) But you can see it in the 2nd season of the TV show that the book is based on. Snappy Dragon made a video on RU-vid discussing the accuracy of the costumes, without giving any major spoilers about the book or the show. What a gorgeous colour!. I make 1870s ballgowns and I have 30 mtres of taffeta which I want to dye but no odea what colour just yet. Love creating.

@@mdmaybe I have dyed wool with dharma dyes - much easier than silk. And use the vinegar or citric acid method with wool. Actually, Kool-aid works on 100% wool, but results are less predictable.

It looks great! It's one of my favorite colors and my husband makes fun of me for it. Also, I've read the whole trilogy of A Discovery of Witches. There is also a tv series based on the books but I can't bring myself to watch it.

My vote is for the shoes. Always the shoes. All the shoes! I saw the Dunmores and my brain said I need them in lilac, yellow and green. Do I have any 18th century clothes? No. Do I have any clothes that would match any of them? No. Does that stop my brain from wanting them? No!

I have been warned so many times to only use acid dyes on silk and never get soda ash any where near silk or the silk would melt. I have never dyed silk because all I have are fiber reactive dyes. Now I really want to try it. I vote for the arsenic green gown because how many people do that and get the color right?

Me, too! This silk is tightly woven and stood up to three vigorous hot washes plus me poking it and prodding it for two hours, but looser weaves like dupioni would require patch or scrap tests!

Maybe, if Americans become familiar with metric, they will be more willing to join the rest of the world, and it won't be a " that French socialist weird way of measuring." Appreciate speaking about Na , Cl ions bonding, acids and bases. Sneak science in any way you can.

In the future, I’ll include both! Dharma uses gallons, cups, Tablespoons, etc, and I just didn’t have the patience to convert. Yes, science everywhere!
