Silver chain making new designs often starts with playing and experimenting with copper wire to discover new techniques and possible patterns. This video is designed to be a basic silver chain making tutorial, so hopefully you can try silver chain making at home.

thanks for that Colum, I find it a bit annoying to get halfway through a demonstration video only to realise most of the crucial info has been left out making it hard to copy … N

I appreciate your time & expertise to create these videos: they help me see what's possible in the chain making aspect of wire wrapping. I've been concentrating on designing & making the pendants & earrings, but I have come to the conclusion that the chains I want to display my work upon are just as important. Unfortunately, the commercially available chains are boring, so I'm modifying my atelier to accommodate the tools needed to make my own. Thank you so much for the inspiration & ideas! Be well! P.S. you still need a kick press, my friend! ;-)

Thanks for your lovely comment Wrendella. it’s true after putting so much effort into making a pendant it’s nice to hang it on a handmade chain to show it off. Unfortunately a lot of people think it’s too much time and effort and prefer to purchase a generic machine made chain. With a bit of patience and practice it’s soon possible to produce your own unique and eye-catching neck chains that would compliment any homemade pendant … good luck with it … N

Nick, a great video and a big thumbs up for adding the dimensions of the wire and calculations. I love your collection of homemade mandrels! Thanks for posting! Nearly forgot, a great tip for using the jaws of a vice to hold the coil of jump rings in place - clever!

thanks for that Stuart, I do believe dimensions are important when trying to demonstrate a project. I struggled to cut jump rings neatly until I discovered the wooden dowel technique … cheers … Nick

I Absolutely LOVE your videos, Nick. Especially that you give us precise measurements, it gives me the courage to try things out for myself instead of doing a bunch of guess work beforehand. I hope your channel goes big because you deserve it!

I modified a pair of circlip pliers for chain, all thanks to the helpful video you made. It's very handy to be able to set a given gap. I need to get making some chain but I'm still chopping wood and will be for quite while I think. Great video Nick superbly informative as usual.👍

@@Nickscreativestuff It's nice of you to hope that Nick but it's just me, my wife works and my daughter's have busy lives too. I do it at my own ever slowing pace. When I'm burning the wood in the winter then I can make jewellery at my leisure. Good to see you getting some videos up Nick.👍

great workmanship. When you solder copper what do you use please and what sort of thing can one use so it looks like copper where one has welded?
@Nickscreativestuff
@Nickscreativestuff 22 дня назад
Thanks Quiet Space Arts, I use silver solder on copper and when the colour match is a problem it can be copper plated over the top to help blend. The spent pickle and added steel technique works well for a thin plating. otherwise copper sulphate and electroplating is quick and easy. Another option with a good colour match is to use copper to copper braising rod as it can be used similar to silver solder, not so good on small jobs but fine for the larger stuff. with a bit of practice, you may be able to cut it up small and use on delicate items … N

To any new wire workers out there!!This might be a handy tip. Or a waste of your time. These Circlip pliers, bought by accident, turned out to incredibly handy. Buy them in the Welders section at Canadian Tire. If you don't shop regularly at Canadian Tire. Make sure you wait for the sales. The place is priced up on purpose.
