Steve Miller here from Silver stag knives, the tang is actually only 2 inches. As for the sheath, we no longer use pouch sheaths for the Pacific bowie because of the issue you described. Now all Pacific bowies come with a hand laced/stitched snap sheath. Owners of a Silver Stag knife have a special service of free refurbishing of the knife, you only pay shipping charges. Lesson learned the hard way, Use a Fillet Knife for Fish, That is what they were made for, As I also broke a good knife that I tried to clean a fish with, Then bought a Fillet knife etc Great review, Thanks for sharing

cool sheath designs. though i have seen those sheaths and was not too impressed. mine has a really good snap sheath that is like a filet knife sheath. i love my pacific bowie but for real the edge is so thick the knife absolutely will not even carve wood. it literally slides on the surface of the wood i try to carve. i love everything about this knife but that issue kinda makes my knife not work as a knife lol
