Dude! You're a lifesaver! every winter, my 2011 fips out and screams low pressure, I knew it was something stupid, now i know how to fix it. THANK YOU!
Thank you for the info. Just happened to me today. Freakin alarms went off, lights blinking, cats and dogs sleeping together, it was crazy... LOL. Definitely looking forward to the videos on the big block truck
We just purchased my son a 2010 silverado with 106 K miles on it. And I knew something was up because it was reading a little under 40 psi. So I googled it and your video was the first thing that I saw. I really appreciate you my guy. God bless you 🙏🏾
I'm changing the sensor for the third time on my 2011 that has 350,000 Mi on it. Every time I do it I look your video up to remember what size socket I need. Thanks again.
Thank you for saving me from a heart attack I replaced my sensor but was unaware of a stupid screen in there I got worried because after I replaced the sensor my pressure was still low thank you very much sir
Love the video!! We changed the oil pressure switch but did not remove the filter. Went back and removed the filter (Tossed that MF'er) and guess what!? 2007 Chevy Silverado running like champ!! Thanks man! You ROCK
Great info! Been getting low oil pressure around the time my oil needed changing. Didn't think it was a big deal. Then this time just recent completed an oil change and low oil pressure popped up. Got the screen out and was caked with gunk. Trucks around 150k I do my oil changes always on time. This just saved me lots of money! Thanks again!
Just did this today! Just a tip take the line off the manifold going to Brake booster! It makes it so much easier to get socket on, and you don’t need any swivels etc.... it will slide straight over sensor!
Dude you made my day. Saved me time and cash. Just replaced mine 2 years ago but did not know about that little fucking filter. That’s all l did was toss that thing put the sensor back on a wala. 55 psi in place of 30/40. 164,000 miles on the 2007. Thank you brother
Good Description! I had the exact same issue with my 08 Avalanche LTZ and it stopped doing it as soon as I changed the filter under the oil senser also, followed up with an oil change . these engines are sensitive!
After replacing the oil sensor on my 2009 5.3 Chevy three times in the last two years, I again had the no oil pressure, low oil pressure and pressure jumping all over the place problem. While purchasing another switch and filter, the local NAPA guy recommended the Valvoline hot oil engine flush. Well with over 200,000 miles on the engine I was skeptical. However, I drained the oil, removed the filter, filled the crankcase with the engine flush and a cheap filter, and ran the engine for ten minutes. The cleaner goes in clear but came out like coffee. Then drained the crankcase, new NAPA gold filter, 5W40 100% Synthetic, five ounces of Sea Foam and the oil pressure is great and stable. The oil is crystal clear and I have the new sensor and filter for future reference.
Thank you! I this video was a great help in resolving this exact issue I had this morning on my 09 Silverado 1509 ext cab. My gauge went zero, then a few mins later 80, then 0, then after a few more minutes back to 80.
Been chasing this problem for a few weeks new oil pump new oring on pickup tube still would be great at when first started then would loose it on gauge but all new part I know it has pressure will be doing this now thank you brotha.....
It's happening right now to my father's car, yukon denali. We changed the oil pressure sensor then the check engine came again. The oil pressure is normal about 50 kpa. I think we need to change the filter. Thanks a lot man.
❤❤❤❤❤ you are the man I can't believe this actually worked I change the oil pressure sending unit and it was dropping pressure saw this video went back in there and pull the screen out and it's fine now amazing thank you
So glad a friend of mine found this video after I’ve been struggling with this for months. I’ve got a 2008 Tahoe, 5.3 L, and same exact damn thing! I swapped the sensor myself not knowing there was a filter. Worked for about a day or so, then I took it to a auto shop, who told me about the filter and said they cleaned it. $400 later, and drove it 70 miles the damn oil pressure error came back on. Took it to another dealer who said these sensors are notorious. As in the whole lot of them are bad. But what you said, is perhaps great insight but just throwing away that’s stupid screen. How many have you done and just tossed the screen with no issues down the road?
If the light comes back on, you probably aren't doing proper oil changes, or just pop the sensor back out and run a cleaning rod from a fire arm cleaning kit👌
@@ronowen5747 hope your doing well just pulled a horribly blocked screen, just bought a new one. I am going to put a new one in but let's say I just threw it away and put sensor in without a screen. Whats the worst thing that can happen ruined sensor?
@@FrankieRodgz worst case scenario your new oil pressure sensor will get clogged up and won't read, I've put a little more than a cap full of sea foam in my oil to beak the oil clog up
@@FrankieRodgz Yes. BUT, I took the dumb little screen out of mine about 60K miles ago and no problems yet. They never put them in before... It's a BS part made to get vehicles into the dealers' shop.
What it can be if anyone has this issue is the o ring in the oil pump I’ve worked on multiple gms 5.3 worth changing at times you can change sensor multiple times only to end up at the bottom end changing out the o ring just fyi hope it helps someone out
I had my 2011in twice for this, one of the comments on the work order was the screen was plugged. Expensive lesson. I will no longer take it to the dealer for repair., my 2011 Silverado has 85,000 miles, always garaged.
I have a 2004 Chevy 2500 Hd 6.0 and when I crank it up it sets just a little above 0 but if in motion it while pressing the gas it will set just below 20. When I stop a light it bottoms back out . I had it scanned at Orileys and nothing oil related but my dash it flashing low oil pressure. Do you think it’s the sensor or the pump
I have a 2009 Silverado 5.3 132k miles...small knocking sound the first minute or so when I drive. Every now and then when I drive it seems like it hesitates before it will accelerate. The oil pressure gauge seems to read high, not low. Like over 40 when I start it and then somewhere in the 30s while I drive. Would this be a pump, oil pressure switch or screen? Is the screen on the switch? Thank you.
My 2008 oil pressure pegged at 0 for the third time in the past three years last week when we were on our way to the dealership to pick my wife's new Equinox. I thought I was getting trash switches - I popped it off, tossed the screen and put it back on. Good as new. Does that screen really have any impact on the VLOM/DOD as they claim? By the time oil makes it that far, it's already been filtered. I also have had the Range AFM disabler plugged in for a year, so I'm really not sure what to think.
A few days ago I changed my oil filter on my 2004 Avalanche to the OEM recommended AC Delco and noticed a 20% increase. (I change my oil twice a year and have always used Fram) I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but the pressure was really low for the last couple of weeks and has never really gotten above 40 since I bought it 3 years ago. Now the pressure is between 40 and 50.
Have you ever had any issues with removing the screens I removed mine runs way better oil pressure AFM deleted so I’m not to worried just wondering have you had any issues with removing it?
Yeah, 07 to 13 same problems I got a 6.0 replace that twice found out it’s a oil pressure relief. That’s actually located in the oil pan and if you just pull that baby out and replace it with the plug problem fixed.
Awesome video. Worked for me. Quick question. My white retaining clip broke down the middle when I was trying to remove the cable. Do you think the connector will stay connected without it. Or do you know if I can order a new clip. Thank you for your video
So I have a question Iv tried to pull out this screen for the oil sensor and I can't get it out iv tried a screw a screwdriver and I can screw the screw down a little bit just to ketch threads and it won't pull out do you think it even had one I had it replaced a year ago by a shop ad now I can't even see one but it feels like there's one by feel wyt thank you
Had the exact same issue with my 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Pickup Truck, it would die especially when it was cold in the mornings....it would die with pressure down below the 5 mark..... I replaced the Oil Pressure Sensor Switch, BAM worked like a charm pressure read correctly at 40...problem solved!!
Thank you mine just happened today it's on 0 but I have full oil in my tank and no sound just to check engine light because the sensor came on is it okay still to run the truck?
I popped that fuel line off to get my hand in there easy, and you need to be good working by feel as you can't see it. Lay a pile of cardboard on the intake so you can lay on the engine. I made a custom hook from curtain wire to hook that screen and pull it out. Use a spark plug socket first, then get on the back of the plug socket with another socket and swivel. You have to do this all by feel as there's no way to use your arms with your face in a position where you can see it with an eyeball and get your right hand back in there BC of that sound shield.
same thing if pressure shows high..a place in town was going to charge us $345.00..did it my self for cost of part and cost of a socket..my 1st time doing it and I turned 64 last month
Crazy thing happened to me on my LS swap. Had great oil pressure 40 and then it went to 20 down to 0. I changed the sender and no difference. I read some forums and decided to change the oil pump with no different result. I also read where some people changed the oil and filter and it fixed theirs. I should have done the cheapest easiest thing first. Oil and filter fixed the problem.
did you ever get a light? i have low oil pressure when its idling but stays at 20-25 then i rev and goes to 40 idling but goes back down when i take my foot off the pedal
@@jasesitl4837 yeah the light came on but like I said above after changing the oil and filter everything has been fine. Mine son also had the same issue on his swap. Hard to believe changing the oil fixed ours.
I have a 2010 with almost 110k miles. Oil pressure is around 40 when idling but I noticed that when I accelerate the psi goes up a lot almost up to around 60 then drops down when either the truck shifts or when i slow down.. Could this switch be causing this
That’s pretty normal actually for these trucks. If your oil pressure drops down to like 15 or lower I’d look at the switch or screen. Typically it’ll just drop out randomly and you’ll get a low oil pressure message on the dash.
I have a 4.8 litre and it's doing it frequently now after warmed and at traffic signals. Replaced this oil pressure censor 3 times now. May try this. I have 240,000 miles now '06 silverado.
Can you drive with the sensor at 0 and check engine light on. I have plenty of oil and just had it turned up by GMC a month ago. I have a Sierra 2011? Thanks
Few years back had a shop quote me $2,500 to replace that oil pressure sensor so I did it myself 100 bucks for the sensor and 20 bucks worth of sockets and Knuckles oh yeah and bruised Knuckles LOL thanks for this I just got the same error a couple years later
I have an 05 Chevy Silverado z85, just changed the oil but used a filter I never have because of circumstances but drove it all day after. Jumped in it the next morning an my oil pressure started dropping. What could the issue be? Hopefully its what you showed in the video.
Would low oil pressure set off the cylinder deactivation system? Like it's usually between 20 and 40. Sometimes it'll jump past 40. Even with a fresh oil change. No oil light comes on, but it did set off my check engine light, causing it to go in 4 cylinder mode.
2001 Tahoe 5.3. Message CHECK ENG OIL PRESSURE. Changed oil and replaced oil sensor switch. I still have the issue...I have noticed that the gauge shoots up to 40 w no issues when the truck has been ran or its a hotter part of the day. Could I have an oil pump issue?
Great video. I have a 07 Silverado 1500 and the oil pressure goes around 30-35 while driving. But, I’m having a knocking that goes on and off randomly. I’ve seen more videos about rocker arms needed adjustment, but I’m not sure. It has 140k miles on it and never had a problem before and it’s not loosing power neither. Also, almost every time that i cold start it, it will blow white ball smoke out of the exhaust. Any advice I will appreciate it!
I have a 2007 Silvarado Classic 1500 with the 4.8. My oil pressure gauge light is out and the dial is all the way to the bottom on the right side. I'm not getting an error code for it and the engine runs fine. Any ideas on what is wrong? Is it the sending unit or something else? Thanks.
What do You think is the problem after you have changed the oil pressure sensor , you start and drive your truck and you have the same problem? TURN OFF ENGINE OIL PRESSURE IS LOW
Easy as hell to access on an express cargo van. Drilled holes through my passenger seat bolts and added hitch pins and washers. Getting the seat and dog house completely out makes life fun. Love working on my van. Everything else is a bitch. Love that SS. Treat her with fluid film and love her. 7.4!
@@freedomovereverything1776 I have decided to do a BTR truck Norris cam and planning an undermount turbo. On3 GT45 with a built 6L90E transmission. Baby is going to roll out.
@@freedomovereverything1776 my friend ( old high school car crowd buddy) is the owner of on3performance. I did some HVAC bartering. I'm guessing 4k for trans upgrades, cam and piping.
SOooo, you toss the "heavily gunked up" 7 dollar filter, but replace the 40 dollar sending unit? Seems if the filter get clogged it would make sense that the sender, with its little hole, would get clogged. Cheap insurance to keep that 40 or 50 bucks in the pocket. That screen does not change the actual pressure in the engine. It just changes what is being reported to the gauge. Consider telling people that watch these videos and are working on their vehicles as much info as you can so that will make informed decisions about how and what they do to their projects as there us alot of bad processes and procedures being shown on YT and some people don't do their due diligence and then have a screwed up and more expensive repair. Thanks for the cool video and glad to see more and more people tackling their LS repairs and upgrades. (Sorry about the wicked long comment). ;)
I can’t seem to find this strainer/filter thing anywhere for my 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3L have checked at few different auto part stores and nothing like this shows up in their system?? Any suggestions? Maybe this year didn’t have them?
This year would have it. It might come with the sensor depending on where you get it. Or check with the dealer. I just leave it out when I replace the sensor, so I’ve never had to hunt one down.
This happened to me and I took it to the Chevy dealer. They told me they couldn't find an issue and sent me on my way. My pressure hangs around 19 psi and drops to 15 when I break.
I have a 2008 Chevy suburban. I bought it in march 2020 and i bought it from a dealership 4 hours away from my town. On the way home this happened. And i got it towed to the next Chevy dealership. The dealership i bought it from paid for the service. It was 450 and they didnt just replace the oil pressure gauge they replaced a crackes screen on the back of the engine. And anywas today it juat did it again. So i was wondering if getting rid of the screen u were talking about would that stop ot from happeneing that much? And i dont want to keep paying 450 every 4 months thats like evry oil change id have to do thia that alot to keep paying
If you just had it replaced, it would be a good idea to have the screen pulled and inspected for metal or debris. It shouldn’t clog that fast. Or you may just have a defective sensor. I did another video on the issue going into more detail. May help you.
If you have this chronic problem it’s best to pull the air intake the first time and remove the plastic dam between the firewall and the intake. It is absolutely useless and was probably put there by the engineers to dampen sound. Once you remove this piece of junk plastic you will have permanent easy access to the sending unit.
I'm having this problem with a 2002 5.3L on my 3rd sensor all the things I read are On 2003 and newer does the 2002 and under have the same screen? I fished around in there with a pick and I I guess I didn't see or find anything and still having oil pressure sensor issues?
My 2007 Silverado has normal oil pressure at startup. The oil pressure gradually drops as engine temperature rises. By the time I get to normal engine temperature, the oil pressure drops to zero. What do you think the issue is?
