Great video for beginners. The one thing I would add is the ring mandrel with the open flat edge is designed to be used for open rings. When you sodder the open pieces onto the back of a flat surface. The closed mandrel is specifically designed to be a sizing tool for closed rings.

Hi, Adriana, great video. I wanted to add a suggestion; when getting started I recommend immediately going for a micro-motor instead of a "pendant" motor - simply for comfort and ease of use. If going for budget tools, I've found that relatively inexpensive micromotors that are available for the manicure industry are a great way to enter into this superior tool use source. The shaft of a "flex-shaft" is a very cumbersome part of pendant motors. Why not start on the right foot from the beginning. I ONLY use my pendant motor for high torque needs (lapidary and thick mandrel tool bits). Hope that's helpful to you and anyone else starting out. There are so many things i wish ANYONE would have told me when I started out.

A pendant motor IS starting on the right foot. Get a good one -- I prefer Foredom -- and you'll never have to buy one again. I'm still using the first Foredom I ever bought, nearly 40 years ago. Those micromotors for nails are shit, and don't have the torque and speed control necessary for jewelry.

@user-qk5fg2mo1d You make a solid point about inferior tools! But if you have to start out low budget, a micromotor of almost any kind is better than a flex shaft from a physiological perspective. That was my point. I believe in starting out with the best tool you can afford. The actual point of a micromotor over a flex shaft pendant motor is to avoid the flex shaft and hand, wrist, arm injury, or fatigue. I have three Foredom pendant motors (flex shaft rotary tools) - I stay away from them to save my hands, forearms, and neck. I've learned that just because most have bought and used a certain tool historically, it doesn't mean it's the best for everybody. But, certainly whatever works well for anybody is fine, especially kindness and respect!!!

She’s right in recommending a flex shaft. Those little nail micro motors are not for metal. Get a decent flex shaft or even a dremel. My Prodigy brand flex shaft from Rio was under $100 and indispensable.

Thank you so much! The bench that I have is the Durston Double Superior Goldsmith bench. This bench retails around $2,000 so check fb marketplace first as that is where I found mine and saved some money! I do have some other bench options linked in my Amazon Storefront though if you aren't wanting to spend that much. I love my bench but it is not at all necessary to make jewelry 💕💕

Thanks Adrianna! I would really love to start learning and I just bought some brass sheets and a jewelers saw to start practicing sawing. I have been wondering whether I should just wait and save up for a nice micromotor or flexshaft, or if I should just buy a dremel. Ive been watching a lot of videos saying to just buy the micromotor or flexshaft because a dremel won't get you far. What do you think about this? What about the foredom on your Amazon store?
@MiteraMade
@MiteraMade 7 месяцев назад
I think you should buy what you can afford, especially since you want to know if this is something you will truly stick with before dumping a lot of money into it. If you can afford a Foredom and just knoooowww you are going down this road, I absolutely wouldn’t steer you away from that, but if you’re on a budget like me and experimenting and learning, I wouldn’t be afraid to go the budget route as they will be able to do everything you need in the beginning 💜

I think someone used that rouge polish wheel on you because you really shine. I once accidentally pickled myself but I didn’t use vinegar and salt, maybe that’s where I went wrong ? What do you think ?
