Remember being there very well as a 10 year old and hanging out in King Kenny’s motor home in the pits as we did at most meets. Also we shared to same Yamaha motorcycle factory in Holland and I used to look at his bikes in awe ..I thought it was incredible he had a tv in his motor home 🤣After the races finished all us kids would hop on the mini bikes used for getting around the pits and race around Silverstone - the memories are just unbelievable. Kenny Roberts is the most balanced rider I’ve seen everything just looks right and love his bike. I’ve still got plenty of stickers of Kenny Johnny Cecotto and co. I was there with Australian rider Greg Johnson and Mum. Kenny is a hero of mine just fantastic.
I remember watching this Live! Barry Sheene 7, was my biking Hero, " Don't you wave at me young man " Classic Murray Walker. Each time I watch it I think Sheene is going to win! RIP Barry and Murray.
Oh pls stop being like one of those farts that say" it used to be so much better in my time" there's great racing today too, watch the best Motogp and WSBK races, watch Motogp Australia 2015, 2017 and 2022, so many overtakes on bikes that are 10x times faster than the bikes in this video, Assen 2018 in Motogp had more than 150 overtakes and 6 different leaders all in 40 minutes, so you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
We used to go every year , camping for the weekend one of the things I remember from that year was the cheering coming from various parts of the circuit whenever Barry Sheene took the lead , we were sat in grandstands at start finish and to this day I can't believe Barry didn't win , great skills and a lot of bottle from all 3 involved .
Murray Walker - the best motorsport commentator ever! And back in those days only one commentator, so we have what would be dreaded these days - a few seconds with no-one talking!
Cheers for posting the video. Great to watch and remember back in the day👍. I had an rd500 in the 80s. Always been my favourite bike. Plus roads weren't busy like today.
Barry Sheen was so funny when he flicked the Vs at Kenny Roberts and made Murray giggle 😂 I did used to have such a crush on Sheen and his cheeky smile when I was a kid ❤️
The first bike Gp I ever watched live on tv when I was 13.Could not really have picked a bet race. Give me those days anytime. Bikes were more equal and money was not so important just graft, skill and a will to win. KR went on to be my idol and sat next to Bazza and his other half in the pits at Donington at the 1984 Transatlantic Meeting. Give me two strokes any day.
Personally I always found the 2 stroke era boring - every bike looking and sounding the same! And mainly because they WERE largely the same. We could thank the FIM rules for that.
i agree ... i went to see a motocross race recently ... all these bikes were like farting ... i miss the metallic scream of the old mono 2T ... both the small 125 and the monstruos 500 ... what a sound.
Just read some guys comment on another video about this particular race and how Kenny Roberts and (Walker I think it is he said ? )Kept trading first place and it was an epic race. I scroll little further down in my feed, and here’s the actual video of that race.🤘🏼👍🏼‼️
Was way off lol I just went back to that video because I drew a blank on the name of that British writer. Roberts was racing/battling apparently. Sheene was the name ….and he just took first as I type this hehe
@vicpnut1 I was there as Sheene gave Roberts the "V" right in front of us, I also managed to get the rear slick from Sheenes bike from the day, if only I still had it i`d probably make a few quid on Ebay.
A Classic Race.....Mick Grant was on the 4 Stroke 8 valve per oval cylinder Honda. She didn't last long....My brother and I were on Stowe Corner. The night before we saw Led Zeppelin at Knebworth and flew back to Australia Monday morning. You'd have to say it was a good weekend to finish 8 weeks going to GP's and Motocross GP's in Europe.....Wayne Gardner kicked the arses of the Poms on a Hotted up CB900 B'ol D'or Honda Road Bike that he bought over from Australia against the Mega Buck Honda F1 Factory Bikes.....A Great Weekend indeed. The Joke of the Day was the staged so called Racing for a Dodgy Pommy Movie called "Silver Dream Racer".....What an embarrassment that was to the Motorcycle World. Another thing worth mentioning was Gregg Hansford, as always Brilliant riding on his Kawasaki 250 & 350. A bloke who was 6'2" and about 80kg against a field of 50kg Euro Jockey's. Just getting podiums for Gregg was an incredible achievement, and he won his fair share of GP's.....Kenny Roberts said if Gregg had a Yamaha he would've won the 500 title because he was the Best Rider in the World. Unfortunately he remained loyal to Kawasaki who's 500 was about 20hp down and Slow.
I was there as well i was 19, and rode there from Bristol on my RD250. was the best race I ever saw. Sheene and Roberts were legends riding the unrideables .
Ich vergleiche einige Entwicklungen zu heute. Silverstone 2017 gewann Desmo Dovi. Die unterschiede sind schon sichtbar 1000 ccm Viertakter und mit laufenden Motoren wird gestartet. Pro Gridline nur 3 Motorräder und an den Kurven sind Kiesbette.
Ilman kierroksella ohitettavia lopussa olisi Barry Sheene todennäköisesti voittanut. Kenny pääsi helpommassa kohdassa ohi siitä hitaammasta kuin Barry. Hieno video!
miss ya sheene. miss em all, bill ivy, kim newcombe.. quite a roll call but all enriched our lives. perhaps sad at the time, when some retire with gas left in the tank- but so they should. someone tell rossi that
Pure gold Theo 👌..pure F.I.M road racing.. NOWADAYS TOO MUCH TECH TRACTION CONTROL ANTI WHEELIE MAPPING SWITCH BOOOOOO...👎😎 YES..YES...I KNOW THERE ARE 250/260 Hp....BUT....
Bikes have come on a long way in 40 years. I was at this race, took my girlfriend who was also a biker. Weather was hot and dry (bonus). Gutted when Sheene threw it away and lost by 0.03 seconds, but he lost to one of the greatest riders in history.
