In 2018 I fell in love with an old friend. she was so amazing and fun and beautiful. we always rode our bikes around town, went to see the stars, smoke and talk. I was confused about my sexuality, and when I told her I was falling for her, she was under no obligation to deal with my messed up head. she stopped talking to me, and I never had the courage to call her again, even though I thought about her all these years. our story is very similar to the story of the girls in the video, and this song always reminded me of our story and my love for her. yesterday, she passed away in a motorcycle accident. I never got the chance to see her for the last time, to tell her that I now understand my feelings for her and that I always loved her, even though I kept the feeling dormant. I wish I had the chance to do that, because now I don't know what to do with this feeling.

I relate to your story. I was such a baby gay back then. I was 19 and it was the year I came out to my family. I didn't used to see many LGBTQ+ music videos back then as I do these days. Seeing some LGBTQ representations certainly helped me figure out how I wanted to make my coming out. The emotions in this video are similar to how I felt back then. Anyways, just to say that the nostalgia hits me hard everytime I listen to this song and everytime I watch this videoclip too.

I think that the story the video tells is just a fantasy that the girl with the tall hair has. Look at how they're wearing the same clothes throughout the entire video, and how it starts off with her running towards the other girl and getting onto her bike - but that never actually happens because at the end you see that she never left the field and the other girl got into a car with some guy. Still very sad, I adore this video. It's beautiful.

I've always understood this video as the girl imagining all these scenarios with the other girl, a stranger to her, as she crossed the sidewalk to the car. Like we sometimes imagine a whole life together with a stranger we took a liking for whatever reason, in mere seconds - just to keep our loneliness in check. That, in my mind, is a greater storyline than both of them falling in love, and then everything falling apart.

Are you sure? The entire video doesn't seem to be consistent with that story. What about the parts toward the end (the shot of her in the bathtub for example) where she looks upset, like she misses the redheaded girl. Why would that be a part of her fantasy? You may be right still, those parts just didn't appear to mesh with what you're saying. Music videos are weird and cryptic sometimes though haha

Wow, what an amazing video from an amazing band! So much depth... I really liked how they made it very easily interpreted different ways by different people. I think she was day dreaming it all--for me the video is showing the frailness of human mentality and how it's so easy to get caught on a thought of "could be" and lose yourself in it, and how that can lead to accidentally harming yourself. Absolutely beautiful (the girls and the video ;).

Personally, I think she was just imagining the whole thing. I don't think she ever got with the blonde girl. She just imagined it when she saw her, then she snapped out of it at the end of the video and we saw the true reality.

I don't think so. I don't think she's shedding tears because she's imaging things, or can't get over a crush. I think they shared a moment. The girl with the long hair fell in love, but the girl with the short hair was just having some fun.

The pink haired girl is more relaxed as she has no tendencies of hooking up the same way other girl does.. The other one is living through these emotions daily, looking at her because she wants the emotional situation to evolve furthermore the whole setup is made in a way that we're actually looking through the eyes of the brown haired girl.. How the pink girl affects her, in reality.. the pink girl is straight and she doesn't think the way she behaves affects that way to the brown girl. At the end, the pink haired girl leaves with her BF, and the brown girls just stares there, looking how she's leaving again, another day, another loss.. Wishing she was with her..

For those of us that have experienced the way this video ends and are still stuck in a loop like a revolving door, let me gently suggest moving on whether that is backwards or forwards it is infinitely better than running in circles. The fact is most often if we actually succeed in getting back together, what broke it in the first place, is still there and now it is no longer a relationship of equals, but one of dominance and submission and that rarely ends well for the Submissive. There is no The One. People are a package deal, enjoy them all.on whatever level feels right but hold yourself to your own Path. Don't stay stuck.

Wow.....i think i needed this.....i had and still have a crush on my best friend i told her how I feel we kind of dated for like a month then suddenly she just changed and just ended it. I think maybe she was afraid or hate labels or something..this was like 2 years ago she is still my friend but it doesn't feel the same and i still have one sided feelings for her. It sucks and i think i should have moved on earlier but i didn't.....up until now i always thought in the sense that MAYBE...MAYBE SOMEDAY...but after reading your comment i think i now know what to do. I knew all along that I have to move on but i just didn't accept it. But now i think i should and stop wasting my energy on things which aren't meant for me Thanks a lot Really thank you very much ❤️

@@motivationstash963 You are of course welcome. I'm certainly no expert. I've just seen things go badly when as you noted "one sided feelings" are involved. In fact I've also seen how comfortable it can be for the one on top of that one-sided affair with the knowledge that IF you ever wanted the option, it's there. There used to be a semi comic song entitled, "How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away" :) and I'm definitely not promoting appearing to move on as any kind of play. It's probably not wise to pursue someone as a lover who caves to conflict. The point is pining tends to be self perpetuating... just one more reason it's healthier to be happy for the past but live for the ever unfolding future. Best wishes.

The brunette in the video really looks like an old friend of mine that I let go of 3 years ago. It's her eyes. I wasn't in a happy place in my life and I wasn't the friend she needed me to be. Unknowingly and unvoluntarily we had developed feelings for each other. There's just no one that ever got me like she did. Now she won't return my calls nor my messages after all this time..only now that she's long gone have I realized what I've lost and how much I miss her...but perhaps I'm just too little too late. Still, thinking that in my life I've come across a person that got me like she did, and knowing that she exists in this world, makes me happy.

Simply amazing. I cannot get enough of this song and video. They are perfectly matched both lyrically and visually. The girl in this video - her expressions speak volumes. Interpretation is completely open on this, but I take it to mean that we have or will experience the yearning for something more, something better. The past will continue to haunt us so long as we remain sheltered in our own hearts. The girl in this video has clearly experienced loss of some sort. We are led to believe it's love for the other girl, but it could also be loss of faith in her own sexuality. Trapped forever in uncertainty. Enough already. Where does my happiness lie? With her?

This may sound weird, but I found this music video playing inside a walmart. They had it on their tv's on a loop, playing every 25 minutes or so, even for Canada, that's hella progressive of walmart to put a music video that's blatant lgbt in a store predominantly visited by suburban families. I was happily suprised and it allowed me to discover this band, so two stones one bird and all.
