It's always a pleasure watching your videos. That handbrake is a dream...thanks for doing what you do there on SRG.

Omg that setup with the Australian sequential shifter is absolutely endgame mint 👌

I ordered the 2 pedal set and handbrake after watching this review. Man, was I ever disappointed. The baseate was badly scratched and the handbrake mount deeply gouged. Polystyrene was broken and instructions torn.Clearly these has been used, returned and then shipped out as new. Sim Coaches agreed that their kit can get trashed in transit, but thought this was acceptable. No RMA was issued, meaning if I sent them back, I could not reclaim my import taxes and charges (£340). I'll keep these handy in their box as a constant reminder of how not to treat your customers.

You are the man Barry. Love the videos. You have really helped shape my opinions when it comes to sim racing gear. Thanks for the amazing, unbiased reviews. Very thorough.

you can make one yourself for half the price but thats without the billet. i used a cheap ebay handbrake assembly then put those wilwood parts on it

Is there any chance of obtaining template to replicate your mounting to the Simworx Sequential Shifter?

I am building my own handbrake solution (load cell) and have spent quite a few days researching the mechanics of real handbrakes and braking system in general. What I don't get, is why on earth the hydraulic system would give a different feel in the hand? The only reason hydraulics is used in cars is to transmit pressure linearity from the foot to the wheels. Technically, you could use a system of strings and/or gears to achieve the same "linearity" goal, but no one does that because it is inefficient. Instead you use hydraulics properties: just run the lines however you want to each wheel and the non compressible fluid will do its thing. The whole idea of hydraulic lines is to bring the "direct effect" from the feet to the wheels. So the great question is: why add hydraulic complexity and safety risks if the load cell and "resistance imitating material" are sitting right next to your lever?? And if the goal was to achieve a higher output force, say twice the input (with hydraulics this is achieved with 2x master diameter than the slave), then why not just press directly against a twice softer spring (2x lower compression rate)? Again, the resistance and feel will be identical! Unless I am missing something, based on the laws of physics, if you were to put the spring from this HB into the Heusinkveld HB (remove the poly bushings), you'd get exactly the same feel and vice verso (let's ignore for a moment the difference in the arm length and master/slave higher ratio - we're talking direct effect and linearity here, not in/out ratio).

Mate your spot on. Until a blind test can be done on any sim gear some bias or placebo effect will likely affect the persons perception. Hydraulic handbrakes are used in rallying of course and will give some modulation to the input and as you state its the most efficient way to transfer the the force from the leaver to the brakes taking into account the bends and routing of the lines to the slave cylinders. Nailed it on the head mate.

@@untrainedprofessionals2374 I've been wondering the same thing myself, I can visualise what Max wrote, but I wouldn't have been so eloquent. I mean, without a doubt, that is some damn sexy kit. This is in a way similar to the early days of water cooling PC's - explaining to friends my PC is water-cooled. Now, both my pedals and handbrake are (in some cases the same pedals one can buy when modifying or building a race/rally vehicle) using a hydraulic system. So when I'm asked why hydraulic, I can respond with... well, it looks sexy and immersion, yeah it's totally immersive. 🤔

@@Bob-Jenkins I love the why question. Answer my mate would give was because I want to. Mike drop walks off stage left.

I'm not an engineer, but the whole reason why you would convert to hydraulics for a sim is to replicate what they use IRL as close as possible. Rally cars and drift cars use a hydraulic system for their handbrakes, so we try and replicate that for the sim. A lot of drifters like the fact their sim handbrake uses the same components as their IRL drift car and feels the same as well.

I’d rather have the HE v2 handbrake for 1/3rd of the price and not ever worry about having brake fluid leak onto my carpet. Those Wilwood parts will leak eventually in that closed loop setup.

I'm sorry. but if you spend $600 on a sim handbrake, you deserve to be separated from your money. This is no different than people that spend stupid amounts of money on gucci bags etc
@RoarS89
@RoarS89 3 года назад
You deserve to be separated from the internet, sorry, but your opinion has no value what so ever. People can spend their money just how they like, and you can't do a single thing about it. Why do you even care?
@jackmakackov7077
@jackmakackov7077 3 года назад
@@RoarS89 why does your opinion matter at all. If you are dumb enough to spend 600 on something worth $80, Im not the dumb one. you do realize that companies make things that are extremely expensive just because they know dumb people will buy them. Go ahead and spend $600 to be faster on one turn per course on dirt rally.......
@RoarS89
@RoarS89 3 года назад
@@jackmakackov7077 I'm not the one trying to tell others how to spend their money, and why it's stupid and what not. Just saying, the Wilwood master and slave cylinder alone is about $150, and then you need fittings and a hose, the pressure sensor, the USB controller interface, the actual handbrake, it adds up quickly. Yeah, you can do it cheaper than $600, but with quality parts it can get just as expensive or even more on a DIY build. And even on the cheap side of a DIY hydraulic handbrake build, you'll be looking at $350-450. You need to realize this is a niche market, and that these particular handbrakes are not mass produced. I mean, there's people who spends $10-100k on a single wristwatch.. It's not like they force you to buy it anyways. Some people enjoy quality, and I can tell you this much, the cheap eBay handbrakes might do the job, but they're not exactly what you can consider good quality, they don't last long with simple abuse either.
@untrainedprofessionals2374
@untrainedprofessionals2374 3 года назад
@@RoarS89 Hey dude. I agree its no ones business how you spend your money. If you find good value in what you buy thats up to the buyer. The majority of the cost in most of these units is the CNC machining. The waste material on these particular sets would be large. As far as the off shelf components they are not expensive brand names aside. We are paying a premium for bling mate. I don't see the value but I'm not the buyer. I hear words like real world car parts and having a pretty good idea of parts costs we are being treated like fools in some cases. Market size is a consideration and we are a niche but real world cars are not and nether is electronic components so that leaves the blingy bits. Sim Rig Jewlwery is what you are left with. If someone loves the look and it gives them joy then good stuff buy whatever you like and if someone has the the opinion they think it's overpriced then they can have that as well it's what makes life interesting. All the best and enjoy your hobby. 👍

This is basically comparable to a high quality pair of skis or a golf driver ($450-500). For someone who daily drives, often Rally, I get way more use and value out of a handbrake like this than they get from their skis or golf clubs.
