They share a lot of things. 1. Art - Just like Luos dominate the music, comedy, and acting scene in Kenya, The Igbo dominate these areas in Nigeria. 2. Sports - In Kenya, football and Rugby are Luo/Luyha games. This is true of the Igbo. 3. Cultural laws - The Luos and Igbo's share such cultural practices as wife inheritance, the structure of the home, proverbs, idioms, euphemisms, and cultural norms and laws. 4. Food - Just like the Igbo, Fish, cassava meal, sorghum and Plantain are a central delicacy. 5. Names - The Luo and Igbo share lots of names e.g. Onyeka, Ojuku, Okongo (pronounced Okwonkwo, same meaning though), Oketch (Pronounced Okechi, same meaning). 6. Pride - Pride is a central aspect of both the Luo and Igbo communities. Just like the Igbo the Luos are known for their opulence and show-offs. 7. Burial Ceremonies - Just like the Igbo, burial ceremonies are a time of celebration for the Luos. To both, burial must shout opulence, people must eat, and old men must present their dirges and boasts. 8. Politics - The political style and circumstances are the same. Just like Luos, the Igbo's are great activists who are known to stand for truth and agitate for change. They are feared and often barred from ascending to power for fear of their pride. 9. Education - Both the Igbo and the Luo put a lot of emphasis in Education. Until recently, Luo's were disproportionately in academia, law, medicine, Engineering and education. These are just but a Few

My friend, Igbos don't dominate music in Nigeria. Yorubas to some extent are more dominant in music producing the best African musician of all time, Fela Kuti. They have music maestros like King Sunny Ade , Ebenezer Obe, Lagbaja, Shina Peters, Wiskid, Davido, etc. Majek Fashek was born to a Yoruba father and a Bini mother but grew up in Benin City. He saw himself more as a Bini man because he grew up there in Benin. The Yoruba have produced more renowned musicians than any other tribe and it has been like that for decades but I can say that Igbo to some extent dominate the acting scene in English language. You are right on that.There are Yoruba Nollywood and Hausa kannywood but the English drama or acting scene is more dominated by Igbo people. Concerning football, I can say that before the Igbo dominated that with Okocha, Uche Okechukwu, Michel Obi,Ben Iroha , Uche Okafor, etc but the current national team of Nigeria is more balanced compared to before. There is no one dominated tribe at present in the first eleven. Anyway, we are all Nigerians and we should be happy about that. I am not a Yoruba but I just wanted to correct the areas you were wrong in.
@dermotwallace5533

@@terminateurextra-ordinaire3925 Again, another biased Yorober liar as usual. How many goalkeepers has Yorober produced in Nigeria football in the last 40 years compared to Igbos? And even in the current Nigerian team, how many Yorobers are there as against the Igbos? Mention them one by one? How cleverly you ended with the notion that, "we're all Nigerians" for the cover up. Nice try mate.😅😅👍
@terminateurextra-ordinaire3925

@@dermotwallace5533 It's clear that you are not a Nigerian. I thought that you are a Nigerian. Where is Peter Rufai from? He is from the Southwest. Where is Ike Shorumu from? He is from the Southwest.They were both keepers for the national team but Peter Rufai was a first eleven goalkeeper and one of the best keepers of all time, if not the best. What about the recent team? Ademola Lookman is from the Southwest. Semi Ajayi is from the Southwest and Ola Aina is also from the Southwest. They are among the first eleven. There is a reserve goalkeeper, Leye Ojo from the Southwest too. I thought that you know Nigerian players and keepers but you don't know them! You don't know anything about music in Nigeria and you don't know anything about football too. You made all the mistakes. I AM NOT A YORUBA MAN but just trying to correct you. I believe in facts irrespective of the tribes.Why should I deny my tribe if I were a Yoruba man? I have never seen a Yoruba man that denied his tribe and the same thing with Igbo or Fulani ,etc. No Nigerian denies his tribe except a few exceptions if they exist. I am from the Southsouth but I don't believe in tribalism and claiming to be better than others, etc. I hate it. I love all tribes in Nigeria and that is why I tried to correct you. I know that Igbo people are slightly dominant in football in Nigeria and I said that before but in the first eleven at present , it's almost balanced with people from different tribes unlike before in 1994 team where almost six or more players in the first team were Igbo. Once again, we are all Nigerians and no need to have I AM BETTER THAN OTHERS MENTALITY. All tribes in Nigeria are blessed in one way or the other. Igbo people are gifted in commerce and sports, Yoruba in the music and sports. Hausa and Fulani have some latent potential in them too but they are not that active and utilising the potential at present perhaps because of religious belief. Later on the potential will be revealed. The Southsouth is gifted in sports and music too. Burna Boy, Rema,Oris Wiliki, the Mandators, Daddy Showkey, the late Ras Kimono, Sunny Okosun and Sir Victor Uwaifo,etc were all from there. Majek Fashek was claiming that he is a Bini man because he grew up there with his Bini mother. His father is Yoruba. Goalkeeper Enyeama, Ekong, Finidi George, Victor Osihmen, Victor Ikpeba, Wilson Oruma, Samson Siasia, etc are from the Southsouth.

Igbos never relate to Sudan. Sudanese are Nilotic. Hausa relates to Sudan. You can even see it from their figure structures. Igbos never migrated from Congo. The Bantu migrated from the present-day Southeast Nigeria. It was during the Great Expansion that Bantu moved downward. The last Igbos that migrated downward are Igbo of Equatorial Guinea. They migrated from Arochukwu, present day Abia State. Igbo of Equatorial Guinea is one of the tribes in Equatorial Guinea.

The Igbos are a mysterious people that can't really be categorised into any group. On the appearance side, they look very "Bantus" but on the culture side they relate more with the neighbouring people. We have that fighting spirit. During the Civil war in Nigeria in the 1960's, the Igbos were defiant against the British and did not want to be puppets of the British and felt that we wanted to preserve our children's future. We are not excited about being in a photograph with a white person like some other ppl. Igbo women traders fought against paying their hard-earned income in taxes to the lazy queen of the english ppl. They openly fought back against that. We have very low tolerance to nonsense.

The two most dominant paternal Y dna haplogroup in Africa is E1b1b( amhara, Somali, Oromo,etc) and E1b1A( Luhya, lou, Akan, Abagusi, Ga,Nedebe, Buganda,, Wolof, Nguni, zulu, Tiv.) Both these two came from the same father. All Bantu people carry e1b1a including the Ibo. Yes so so-called Bantu and Ibo share the same paternal lineage, and yes same " blood klaaat" fada/father. Go study genetics. So this explains the similarities. Now should I mention the MTDNA the maternal side? There are 7 maternal Y dna in Africa that produce all Africans. Only those who possess E1b1A contain within thier DNA the seven maternal DNA. The Luhya for instance covers the the entire spectrum from lo to l7. Genetic studies demonstrate close relationship between the Luhya, Yoruba and Buganda kingdoms. Genetic studies also show that many African Americas and Jamaicans like my self possess Luhya Y dna belonging to the E1b1A family- the bantu Paternal Y dna haplogroup

I'm concluding the same thing: Not "coincidence"! There seems to have been a lot of scattering of Africans on the Continent in recent past. A lot had to do with the evil invaders from outside of Africa, which caused many Africans to flee westward and southward on the Continent. This fleeing was, and still is, a Huge Mistake; because today we have this nonsense term 'sub-saharan', as if to imply the nonsense that there is other than One Kind of Africans -- Black pigmentation, and with the signature 'African Hair'.

The white colonizers were racist assholes for sure. But I give credit for doing the donkey work to classify the languages and ethnic groups; it's not easy work. @@macaulay1776Some Igbos actually moved from the Egypt/Sudan area to Igboland. If you have studied Igbo history very well, you won't be surprised. Here's something to point some Igbos from that area. Some smaller pyramids were built in Igboland and there are pictures to confirm it. Although, those pyramids have been vandalized and no longer exist but for the fact they existed in Igboland means that some Igbos most likely had carried the idea from Egypt/Sudan area. It is doubtful though if there's any real link between Igbos and Luos even with the name similarities. The key thing should be if the names mean the same thing which definitely will make both languages to sound alike but I don't think most of the names sound alike neither do the languages appear even close. Ijaw - The Ijaw people living in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria are considered closely related to the Luo. Both groups speak languages from the Potomac-Congo B branch of languages. They share similarities in myths, ceremonial practices, and naming customs. Kalabari - The Kalabari tribe of Rivers State, Nigeria has historical and linguistic connections to the Luo. It's believed they migrated from Kenya/East Africa to Nigeria many centuries ago. Their languages retain these ties. Ibibio - Genetic and cultural evidence links groups like the Ibibio people of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States in Nigeria to the Luo lineages. The two groups both originated near the Congo-Sudan borderlands before likely separating. Annang - The Annang community from Akwa Ibom State migrated alongside other Cross River Igbo people like Ibibio ancestors and are thus also considered distantly related to Kenyan Luo people.

According to the one commonly told oral narrative, the Ma’di people left Nigeria, moved southward until they reached Amadi, a town in southwest Sudan, where they settled. The word Amadi in Ma’di language means here we are. It also means, at our place. The Acholi have absorbed Madi elements and the Luos of the Great Lakes region settled with the Moru in Northern Uganda before going separate ways. The guy you have on your video preview (Jalang'o) does not look like a typical Nilote, he's most likely an assimilated bantu. The original Luos were dark skinned and tall, check out the Shilluk in Upper Nile. These ones in Kenya are mixed, some are assimilated so it's hard to know who's a true Nilotic descendant without checking their clan history or DNA. In fact Luos mixed with a Central Sudanic group called the Moru/Muru in Lamogi, Northern Uganda before they came to Kenya. This group are part of a larger Central Sudanic group of which the Madi, Lugbara, Avukaya and Logo of Uganda and DRC, are part of. When I dug deeper I found that the Ma'adi claim descent from Nigeria in their oral history. According to the one commonly told oral narrative, the Ma’di people left Nigeria, moved southward until they reached Amadi, a town in southwest Sudan, where they settled. The word Amadi in Ma’di language means here we are. It also means, at our place. From this storyline by then the Ma’di and Moru were still one ethnic group. Another thing to consider is that Luos migrated from Uganda in different waves, during that time they intermarried and assimilated bantu locals so their culture and appearance changed. Don't get me wrong you will still find Luos in Kenya that look Sudanic but some cannot be distinguished from their bantu neighbours. We are a very mixed society, heritage can only be traced through clan.

From a genetic perspective, these two tribes show no common ancestry to any significant extent. From a biological perspective, the genetic distance between a Luo and an Igbo is equivalent to, or even greater than, the distance between a Swedish person and someone from Turkey. Genetically, they represent two extremely distinct populations, evident in their habloptype, facial shape, skill shape, and body type. The Luo people exhibit closer genetic relations to the Nilotics, and some even show assimilation with Cushitic groups like El-Molo, Borana, and Somali. However, the Igbo do not share the same genetic habloptype with any Cushitic and Nilotic speaking people in East Africa. On the other hand, the Kikuyu, who are part of the modern-day Bantu-speaking East African communities and descendants of the wider migration of agriculturalists into Cushitic and Nilotic lands, are distantely genetically related to the Igbo and other West African coastal populations.

Both these two came from the same father. How can that be when they carry 67% E1b1b of the Y dna of Samoli, Oromo, and other groups they falsely called Kushitic.

The Igbos have the lowest infant and maternal mortality in Nigeria. Ohaneze projected, under Nnia Nwodo's leadership, the Igbo population, within and around their region, at around 70million. The 'bantu' migration started in the eastern parts of Nigeria and the Cameroons along the Niger/Congo rivers. The patterns of movement followed family lines. The Luo and Kikuyu might have started from thesame region, as they veered eastward, another larger Igbo group headed southward towards Zambia, Botswana, Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique etc. Hence more similarities in complexion, physique and foods. That's the family group that contained more Igbos considering the many similarities. It's very unlikely the Igbo had any connections to South Sudanese.

The Luos did not start from Niger/Congo River. Luo comes from the word "LUWO" which means following. The Luo were interested in finding the source of the River Nile as such, it is believed that their migration begun in Egypt through Ethiopia, South Sudan, to Uganda from where they spread to Kenya, Tanzania, Congo and Zambia. Some are believed to have transversed to West Africa. Researchers have found evidence placing Luos in Senegal and Nigeria albeit with extinct linguistic lineages. In Uganda, South Sudan, Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique and Ethiopia, there are many luo subtribes to-date.

Igbo are in the Niger-Congo family. This family includes the Bantu ethnic groups. Their closest relatives in Kenya would therefore be among the Bantu groups(Luhyas, Kambas, Kikuyus etc) more-so than the Luo who are more closely related to South Sudanese Nilotic groups. To be fair it is more complex than that, but Igbos(and Yorubas among other Nigerian tribes) will cluster closer to the Bantu ethnic groups as a general rule.

Kenyan Luo is found in the Nilo-Saharan\Eastern-Sudanic\Nilotic\Western Nilotic\Luo\Southern Luo\Adhola-Alur-Luo\Adhola-Luo linguistic branch Igbo is found in the Niger-Congo\Atlantic-Congo\Volta-Congo\Volta-Niger\Igboid\Nuclear Igboid branch. Bantu languages in general are in the Niger-Congo\Volta-Congo\Benue-Congo\Bantoid\Southern Bantoid. The closest Nigerian groups to Bantus are the Tiv and related ethnicities. I acknowledge complexity because while language can act as a proxy for genetic connectedness, there are factors that can change this. For instance, genetically, Kenyan Luo are not purely Nilotic, having had close interactions with neighboring Bantu groups The Suba, who are generally recognized as Luo, were a Bantu ethnic group in the not so distant past. But generally, Bantu people are genetically more related to Nigerian and most West African groups than are Nilo-Saharans.

This history being taught in Kenya about Luos should stop ....Luos are found in 7 or 8 countries I.e Tanzania,Kenya,Uganda,Ethiopia,Congo,Sudan n Chad.....Uganda holding so many Luo subtribes e.g Acholi,Alur,Padhola,Lango,etc..Ethiopia has Shilluk n gambella,Sudan Acholi,Pari,Jur chol etc,Chad has Maban,Congo has Alur,Tanzania has Luo same as Kenya....people think Luos are only found in Kenya...Kunam speaks like 60%Luo n 40%Teso.

@@maureenogaye7323 I don't know which history you are referring to. I happen to know that Luos are widespread as your well informed evidence confirms. I am just correcting the suggestion by someone(clearly misinformed) that they are close relatives of the Igbo. Even more ridiculous is that this is the case because their names start with "O" *SMDH*

The Kikuyus share nore character traits with the Igbos than the Luos. Based on my personal observations, the tribes that share common character traits with the Igbos are Kikuyus in Kenya, Chaggas in Tanzania, Xhosas in South Africa and a tribe in Uganda.....cant remember the name now...

I know not much about Ibos. But I see people saying they would be much closer to Kikuyus because they are both entrepreneurial. Question though - are Kikuyus entrepreneurial? Buying/importing stock and selling to others does not make you entrepreneurial. It makes you a broker, importer, or shopkeeper with zero skills to enhance value. And every other person can buy something from one place and sell it to another place. Or did I get my entrepreneurship lessons wrong?

You sound so simple and uneducated. You should do a little research on the subject before posting your opinion. Study about entrepreneurship, Chinese culture, middlemen and economic control. You are not smart anyway. No smart person makes such a comment.

The truth is that kenya according to the bible is the actual holy land of the children of Akobi(Jacob). Mount Sio and River Sio(Sion/Zion) is located in kenya.The Igbos and luo are the children of Akobi(Jacob). The igbos in Southern Nigeria are the biblical Ten Tribes who were taken into Captivity to Asshur/Assyria(Hausa Empire). While luo are the reminant of the igbos left in East Africa. According to the bible the Most High is going to regather his people from all the Nations he scattered them(2nd Exodus) back to the Holy land in East Africa.
