Will Johnson at the Ashland Fly Shop reviews the 2017 Simms G4 Pro Tactical Hip Pack. Find this pack on our website! - www.ashlandflyshop.com/produc...
I don't mind the size of the g4 pro hip pack, but I mind the 30 oz weight it comes with. Quite the burden after you load up the pack with more gear. the tactical model is perfect in size and compartments. It just lacks a work bench.
I really don't get Simms at times, Patagonia sell their (Stealth Hip Pack) for half the price than this pack, much more room also and it holds double bottle holders. Makes me wonder if it is quality your paying for at times rather than just for the brand itself. Any gear which is categorized as "G4 Pro" Should at least have waterproof zips like the G4 waders and Jacket. Simms is an awesome company with currently owning a pair of waders myself but it frustrates me they're charging top dollar for this.
Thanks for the feedback, Oliver! Quality is in fact exactly what you're paying for. The material this pack is made of has much higher water repellency than the Patagonia Stealth Hip Pack. Not to mention the design and well thought out features this pack boasts. The Stealth Hip Pack is certainly a great pack, we love it! But, in super rainy conditions the G4 Hip Pack will keep your gear dryer than the Stealth Pack. The Stealth pack is $119.00 and the G4 Tactical Pack is $149.95.
does the G4 Pro Tactical Fishing Hip Pack at least have a work bench when you open it up?? I'm struggling finding a SIMMS water proof pack that weighs under 26oz with a work bench. I had my eye on the dry creek z model pack but it lacks a work bench i'm looking for as well as multiple pockets internally. They nailed it on capacity as well as weight for that pack.
