"Do you see yourself as a great writer? ... Or, an average writer with a great delivery? ... Or, an average writer with a good delivery but with an excellent memory? ... Or, just a guy?"
The people thinking Tim Key is being a dick here are the same people who thought Simon Amstell was offending Amy Winehouse on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
Interesting theory, you think at no point during that episode Amy Winehouse is offended? The second time he mentions crack she's not offended? He turns it around but I would be suprised if she went home a happy camper that night. It would be interesting to know her thoughts on it...I couldn't find any mention of it online.
Hello all. Interesting reading these comments. For what its worth, I am the Neil Slotnick referenced in the video. Just to clarify, I was at said school (which isn't a posh private school) for the whole time, it is Simon who came late. As for my current level of funniness, I'm not funny at all.
+Rood Nverse Well, I associate pasta with Italy even though the pasta I eat isn't made in Italy. We associate specific things with nationalities that do those things well.
Rob Lutter it's not patronising. many countries have different styles of humour. ive experienced it in other countries where there can be some confusion unless one of you explains you are joking. With deadpan British stuff it can be particularly hard to tell if it is just them being grympy rude arseholes or just joking.
This is incredible. One of the only examples where Amstell is caught out by the wit of someone else. It feels like he didn't know it was going to be a joke interview, and Tim came absolutely prepared.
nah he realises this is gold and goes with it. There is a equally awkward interview where Alex Horne interviews tim Key about his new book. It's the same vibe.
this is a video i often return to. Mainly because i love anything Tim Key does. But this is him at his best, the way these two bounce off each other is fantastic.
@@paddym27 I think it's only available as audio right now, unless you want to pay a tenner to watch. Should be available as a free video in a few weeks. Enjoy!
@@AzThe021 ah okay, but there weren't an extended amount of those interviews outside of the TV shows though, e.g. via red button or dvd, in the same way as there were extra interviews of lee and ianucci?
12 years late but I am addicted to this interview as I am about to hit 70 in 2 months. Hilarious from start to finish and I have set it at the start to watch it again in a couple of days:)
Came back to this after loving Tim Key for years and stumbling upon his interview with Bo Burnham. Feels like two of my worlds colliding and what a treat.
Came to this as a Bo fan after seeing Tim Key interview Bo. Definitely the best interview of him I've seen. Although that might be partly cos the 3 brilliant Pete Holmes interviews of Bo are audio-only. But Tim Key's humour bounces off Bo's perfectly, and they are soooo sweet together
Jeez people relax, this is incredibly playful, they're both riffing off each other. You can see Amstell enjoyed it. Loved the ending when he cuts him off by shaking his hand.
With growing aggitation: 'What's funny if it's happy?!' breath 'This cat...' There's so much going on throughout this piece, and it's all great! Real treat for the folks who bought the DVD.
I have a feeling that Simon likes Stewert Lee. They both have this feeling where everything might fall apart at any moment :) They both feel like theyre constantly trying to break and reshape the medium theyre working in. Love this stuff x
Do the people commenting really not get that this isn't a straightforward interview but a clear collaboration between two comedians?? Really?? Clever and funny, made me wanna find out more about thisw Tim Key fella, never heard of him before now.
Quick question. Do you do videos of a certain "cat" on minecraft? I saw you tonight on Jimmy Fallon here in the US. I thought to myself, huh? That voice seems very familar to me. It sounds like Stampy! Could I be right? My son & I love Stampy Long Nose!
I am in love with Tim Key. I've probably watched this whole thing about 20 times now and it just keeps being awkwardly brilliant. I really hope the people who find Tim annoying are joking, but sadly you can never tell on the internet.
@@TheincredibleSkyWood why did you have to go and say that. Not everything in life needs to be a competition or be compared. It must be awful trying to be your friend, you'd be telling lies about everyone behind everyone's back 😂
No, there is this guy called "Borat" who is an even worse interviewer. I can't believe he got a job! He is appaling and rude. We can talk more about him at the weekly support meeting of Guys Who Miss The Point Completely And Make Fools Of Themselves In Public.
10:12 "Were you one of those ones who made up jokes at school as a way of distracting the bullies from victimizing you? for obvious reasons..." *PEEDPANTS*
PMSL! You plonker! Reminds me of the American stagehand talking to Tommy Cooper during the break; "Mr Cooper, I hate to have to tell you this but some of your magic tricks just aren't working."
For example from my worst job interview the manager asked how I would find a needle in a haystack. Ok cringy question but this was not the bad part. I answered - with a metal detector and a magnet, he looked at me disappointedly and completely deadpan said “oh, you could just burn down the haystack but it’s up to you I suppose” sometimes red flags are more like bunting
Watching Tim Key almost breaking his dry routine is amazing. For anyone who doesn't know what a dry sense of humour is, it means not laughing. Bu dum dum. Tisssh. Not that. How is he so funny and keeping a straight face. It's a who can not laugh last competition and hold character. Good game.
OMG! I googled Neil Slotnick and and he came up on Rate My Teachers as a business studies teacher! He teaches at a school in Romford, so I think it must be him... Whoa! I didn't expect anything to come of that search!
It's funny they were talking about cats. I like stuff about cats. They say cats don't have personalities, but they definately do. We had a cat in the 90's called Miffy, His ears would prick up everytime the theme from BBC's Homes under the hammer came on .. and occaisonally for Weakest link.
I sorta agree, he's very likeable but I think he peaked comedically when he was doing buzzcocks. Everything he's done since then has mostly fallen flat for me, but like I said he's a nice guy and very likeable so I don't have anything against him.
