This is still one of my favourite (and in my opinion, one of the best) solo shows of all time. He was doing vulnerability before it was cool, and when it was definitely off brand for him. What an amazing thing this show was.
I love a gay comedian whose entire shtick isn't about being gay. He talks about life, and his sexuality is a part of that, but it isn't something he relies upon.
In his Netflix special he still has his vulnerability, but he seems much happier, more carefree. more integrated and confident. It's nice to see his personal evolution over that span of several years.
I’m not very into those stand up comedians who are just being cynical and sarcastic and use such characters to make money. I personally really like Simon’s standup which genuinely makes me feel that he’s as sad and detached as I am, and he’s not using them as advantages.
Ive been his fan for 10 years. And just last Sunday I saw his work in progress which he started with « I am quite happy » . he talked about having a boyfriend and having a pretty blissful life + jokes.
This ends so beautifully...it closes very well ...like a beautiful pattern!.......ALSO, this is comedy and philosophy and self help - which is so fresh!
I am near mute with long hair and learning difficulties. It's actually really, really comforting to know that someone could find this attractive. <3 I'm also a gay man. Hey Simon! XD
His stand up is magnificent! I love the way he uses his fears and sense of inadequacy in life but then threads them through his development and lightbulb moments. This was a seriously therapeutic piece of stand up for me.
