I never watch shows like pop idol or Britains Got Talent because people like Cowell make the show about them when the stars should be the new talent.

Then you shouldn't know American Idol. Pop Idol started it all and was the original title for American Idol as well. Because of September 11th, they thought by making it American Idol, it would be more of a supported, the whole family can watch show.
