There's no purer voice than Art's.

They played this at my high school boyfriends funeral. He was 19 and intentionally ran off the road. Murdered. I walked into the funeral home as this song was playing, looked up and saw our prom picture framed on top of his casket. I just slumped down and sobbed on the floor. I still cry when I hear it. Rest in peace Derek.😥🙏

This was a huge hit in 1970. The hit version (studio version) has more orchestration than this live version. I suggest you check out the album version on your own to understand and hear why this song was such a huge milestone in music.

In the studio version Paul comes in in the 3rd verse, but oh so subtly.

Art sang solo here, with Paul just taking a brief break. He would return to the microphone for the next song. This version of Bridge Over Troubled Water is not radically different from the original studio recording for the album of the same name, where Art sang solo with Paul's voice only heard during the third verse.

Paul Simon wrote this song but he decided Art Garfunkel should take the lead singer. Good decision, IMO. Paul has a nice voice too but Art nails it.

I can certainly understand your disappointment at not hearing their incredible harmonizing in this video. Their voices blend so well together it’s sometimes hard to distinguish who is singing what. They met in sixth grade and began seriously working on their harmonization in junior high school because their voices were so compatible. That said, Paul wrote Bridge Over Troubled Water and thought it was perfect for Art’s voice. In the studio version he joins Art for the last verse, so we get the best of both worlds with that one.

Who knew that art might be the better singer of them...
